Im not complaining or anything, I am just wondering why it's shutting down. Is it temperature related (load temps around 61 measured by core temp)? Is it a stability issue?
Im away from my computer for the week, vacation in north carolina, so I can't really give a detailed report of what my current bios settings are. However I believe: vcore = 1.4275 vmch = 1.5 fsb = 1.4 vdimm = 2.15
and as for other settings, I have disabled whatever has been recommended throughout reading these forums and around the web. Oh my ram is set at 1:1 3-3-3-8. Im pretty confident my memory is sufficient for this (check my sig for the model) and even if I losen the timings, once I run orthos it shuts down.
So far my best stable oc for gaming and 24/7 usage has been 9x356 = 3.2 at a vcore of 1.2875 bios with most of my other voltages the same as I mentioned before, and ram same as I mentioned above. lol, i really want a stable 3.6 though! :D Any ideas guys?

nice setup you`ve got there;)Quote:

My mobo is running 400FSB 1:1 @ the moment. Its rock steady, i know the memory can take upto 500mhz stable cause ive tested. The Cpu is able to do more i just know it! Except everytime i crank up the FSB above 400. I start orthos i just shutdown. Its driving me nuts, i know that the CPU and the memory are fine, what do you suggest for getting more out of the mobo. I ve tried quite a bit...but no luck.. no matter :slapass: what i do during orthos the PC just shuts down and restarts!! :slapass:
Have you try 1.5v for vcore instead?Quote:

Did you try 1.8 vmch?
Your original post states your trying to get above 400fsb using 1.6 vmch and 1.425 vcore.
Icer, Ive tried 1.8vmch aswell.Ive tried 1.8vmch along with 1.55vcore and yet no result. What do you think? do the pencil mod and shoot for more?Quote:

These boards are not limited to 400 fsb, I've tried my e6300 on my p5w64 and can hit 420 on with the stock cooler easily, while my e6600 struggles to get there stable. Andre and others have said it has alot to do with the cpu, temps, ram etc etc. Not the board.
Asus masters please give to us new bios with more voltage just for cpu,or ram,or I must go to abit.
Is eny ony one with me?
I thought it might come in handy to pass this url : it`s the newest version of the Asus update utilty v 7.07.06 to update the bios of all asus boards in windows xp without leaving windows xp :

Question: where are you finding Bios version 0301 for the P5W64-Pro? Is it a beta? Link? ThanksQuote:

Yes, I just tried it. I was able to download the file.
Does anyone know if Asus is working on a cold-boot fix for this motherboard? Seems like the P5B is the only board they've actually fixed this on.
So far I'm pretty certain that the cold-booting is damaging my kit. I've had 2 fans that have ended up with LEDs that didn't work anymore, plus my Vapochill has behaved strangely a couple of times from switching off and being switched back on (manually) straight away (i.e. USB not being detected, etc).
Worse still Asetek have basically said they're not working on a fix for this as it "only affects ASUS boards". Which means as things stand now when this board does the cold-boot on a normal reset or BIOS change, the Vapo switches off, and motherboard comes back on with no cooling (and then shuts off and complains the next time about overclocking having failed)...
Could someone tell me how to lock RAM:FSB ratio to 1:1 on P5W64 WS PRo?

Thanks :)

Lots of noob questions for you experts...
Whats the difference between the Asus P5W64-WS Pro and the Asus P5WDG2-WS Pro?
Does the board work with SLI or is it crossfire?
What would be the best memory for the Asus P5W64-WS Pro and a 6300?
If the board supports SLI (asus dont say on their website?) does it come with a SLI bridge?
- thanks in advance:)

There have been a few times my board hasn't cold-rebooted going from stock speeds to 430FSB, but on subsequent restarts it will - so it's definitely some kind of pointless BIOS protection feature.
This board doesn`t do the cold boot reset strap thing, "she" :p: will only reset the strap while rebooting or if you change something important in the bios :)
Did anyone use this board with the scythe infinity? Did you have any problems or was it straightforward? What other air-cooling solutions did you guys manage to use without any bending or tweaking on the board?
I used the Scythe Infinity. You should not have any problems. It is easier to install IF you install the fan after you mount it to the mobo.
Cool, thanks!
It's been fixed for P5B and now for P5WDH. I expect it to happen on P5W64 also.Quote:

0302 sounds nice , no more 02xx hope thats a good sign = ) ordered my 64 ws pro yesterday
Just received a 69MOAG145569-GOUAY for Newegg today. Just hooked up my waterblock, mouse, keyboard, rest of the board stock to just see how high I could get this board to post. My results aren't what I expected even putting a fan over both north and southbridge I could only post at 430. Tried both my Patroit PC2 8000+XBL and TeamX 667 with a e6400 which I know will all will do over 450mhz easy.
Very tempted just to ship it back to Newegg as I doubt atleast this particular board is not worth keeping over my MSI 975X Plat.PE, especially at $300.
Ah, I have a new WD Raptor coming tomorrow so I will do a fresh install and see what I can actually do within windows. My primary findings are not positive.:(
What would you tell newegg, since the board works "fine"??
FWIW:
I have had two 69MOAG's so far, one from Newegg, one from eWiz.
The Newegg one would do about 430 maximum, like yours.
The eWiz one will do 450, + or -.
The markings were identical on the box. The Northbridge versions were both newer (I did Arctic Silver so I saw them) but the eEwiz one had
3618A884 on it, the Newegg one (lower fsb) had a 3628Axxx.

my p5w64 is dying :( for the last few days the system has been unstable, last night when i checked the NB it was burning hot, by laser @ 90°C
v.=1.8
no mods
the only mod i did was i penciled the ovp, could this be the cause of the NB overheating?
any fans on that heatsink?Quote:

SlackerXL: no fan, 90°C @ light load like running powerdvd or win media player. @ 1.8 vmch temps were in the 50s & 60s C before..
Torphoto: i penciled when 0301 bios was on, then i updated to 0302 and this bios increased vcore a little and i guess that was to much pencil for this bios.. no overheating before the pencil
i cleaned off the pencil but it still wasnt stable, its like it got worse.. so, i took everything apart, put it all back, now NB temps are back to normal, 'seems' to be stable just like before.
i knew i shouldnt trust my pencil :(
thanx guys!
Also try thre bios 303, I noticed with 302 without mods my system was acting funny
Seems my board died yesterday. Running 413x9 with 1.6MCH no mods. Went to restart go into bios and nothing happens. Board seems to get power but won't even respond to the restart button. Left battery out and cleared cmos overnite with no positive results. All my hardware works perfect on my MSI. So I guess its going back to Newegg after all.
It's just "hard lock"..
Pull all PSU plugs out from mobos connectors, put clear cmos jumper on CLEAR, pull battery out, go eat for 30min.
Put every thing back, press play on tape and pray :hehe:
Well I let the board sit for 3hrs in clear cmos position, no battery with everything unplugged and still no post. Back to Newegg it goes.Quote:

Got my p5w 64 ws pro today but no post at first try = (
tried removing all unecesary parts but no go , bios upgrade perhaps ? to low memvoltage ? 7900GTO doa ?
eatx + 8pin power connected to mobo 6pin to gfx
e6600
team xtreem pc6400 cl4 2x1GB
msi 7900GTO
sesonic s12 600w
checked all cables and all i can think of = (
green led lights up on mobo , fans spin up , hdd's seem to start.
No error beeps but i guess it might be the speaker not working , althow it did with my last setup.
tired now so gonna sleep and try again in the morning = ) Any ideas ?
take one stick of memory out and then interchange them to see if you get the same results.
do you have another type VC to try out?
have tried that , changed to a pci gfx and still no go even went and got another stick of ram but it wont show anything on screen = ( so dead e6600 ?
i was real carfull not to put the cpu in the wrong way aswell so running out of ideas here = (
does this mobo work with c2d regardles of wich bios it comes with ? or is it possible that i need a flash ?
This board is driving me nuts, would like to exchange it for a P5B. Grr.

What do you (or anyone) suggest?
seems my board has a damaged pin in the socket = ( actually looks like it was there when i got it , its not bent but looks different then the other pins , cant find the right word , not damaged at the top but at the bottom of the socket.
Dont think i have caused this but cant be sure = ( going for antoher mobo monday as i cant wait for rma.
So what board to go with ? any suggestions all i want is 7 sata-2 gigalan and a the option to add a pci-e raid controller need 2x pci and 1x16x pci-e (for gfx)
Watercooled e6600 week 30 step A so i guess it will do around 3.8 ? so the board needs to to do 420-440 stable.
Any new boards being released soon ?
Would really appriciate any help deciding on a board as im going to be stuck with it for some time = )
I would hold out for the 680i. its coming soon. very soon.
FSB wall. 400 shouldn't be a problem on this board, but I need a lot more than that when I start phasing. :upset: Mine starts to die in the low 430's.
I think the P5W64's are best when paired with the X6800s and their fully unlocked multis.

I don't see any value in pulling the BIOS chip. Afterall, removing the battery and jumpering CMOS reset is designed to clear the chip's settings. If you remove it, how can they be cleared?
