*New* ABIT Fatal1ty AN8-SLI = 3.55V Vdimm

With all your expertise on the AN8's, I wanted to ask you some questions about the Bios’s - considering two different scenarios

Note the MB in question for both situations is the AN8 SLI version (though, neither will be running in SLI mode)

1) If one was to use a 4000+ SD CPU (along with 2 x 1 gb OCZ Plat ram) with just tweaked RAM timings and a mild OC (say about 220 HTT Max @ 1:1 -- albeit 1T or 2T does not matter either way; if 1T works Great! If not, 2T is fine), what bios would you guys recommend for a rock solid & stabile system?

I was figuring either Bios 14 or 15 in this scenario

2) If one uses a 3000+ Venice -- week 21 -- (along with 2 x 512 OCZ Plat rev 2 [TCC5]), and was expecting to do no less than 268 HTT (preferably 1:1 - and expecting to use 2T timings to avoid any problems), what Bios would you both suggest for a stabile high performance oriented system for 24/7 use?

BTW: any experience and / or feedback on using Tic Tac's Bios based on Bios 13?

Thanks in advance for you input. BTW: my AN8 SLI should be here by Wed / Thu this week. So just wanted some input & see what you both think before I get started.

i personally found that bios13 does the best job of all of them......i tried 14 which was very similar and tried 16 which i didn't like because some memory timings would not stick once i go to windows...also voltage option dropped to 3.4V with sligthly lower undervolting....all in all NO NO for me.....this is all with 2xdifferent week 17 venices....you will have to play with all different bioses but i suggest you start with 13...get your results move onto 15 and compare

i don't want to try tictac's bios as it doesn't fix 1t instability...if it did i would use it....however...tictac has a good option for TCCD guys with 183 divider and as far as i know the bios is based on bios13.....i am content to keep it at bios 13 until they fix vdimm undervolting and 1T.....and add some more options requested from Abit on the sticky i manage over at Abit USA Forums....if you are yet to buy your goods find yourself the new Venices with E6 cores...there is a thread here about some monster OCing....you will recognise them by BW in the part# which sets them apart from usual BP in the part number.....report back when you get your rig

anyone try 4x512 with the ultra board? I'd like to try 2 gigs, but dont want to waste the 1g I have now.

Thanks for the detailed info mate. I do appreciate it. I already have a week 21 3000+ Venice (LBBLE 0521APBW) for my CPU. So, I'll see how she does 1st. But you have my interest sparked with this E6 core you mentioned :D

For my rig, I do plan to see what I can get out of this 3000+ (picked it up for $115 USD, so I figured I can't loose).

In contrast, The 4000+ SD I asked about was for a friend who is not much into the OC scene. He'll kick it up a notch or two and tweak some mem timings and all that. But all in all, I know he's not comfortable with running too far out of spec -- for several legit reasons. So to each his own.. it's all cool in my book .. as long as one OC's a little for that edge over stock ;) .

Anyway, he was more interested in the most stabile Bios version for a very mild OC situation. Therefore, would 13 still fit the bill in this case or would 14 or 15 be OK as well?

I'll post back when I get all my parts in. :cool:

Worked fine 2T. Until high voltage (over 3.3v) was applied. Sudden shutdown of system under heavy overclocking. I would think most 2gig people are into stable gaming system though :p

yeah I would like to try bf/2 with 2 gigs as long as I dont lose alot of my O/C (modest 3700 @ 240x11) or stability.

Cant even run 1T at stock speeds?

Maybe the mobo doesn´t like my 2x512 EB?

Just ordered an A8N-SLI Premium.. 8x SATA, fanless chipset cooling and stability goodness. Then I can even use a PCI SATA controller.

ill try my eb tonight and see if i can get it to work on mine. Will post back tonight with my findings

You can see my setup below. The chipset fan is driving me nuts with all this noise. I am stable at 250 x 11 = 2.75ghz on the dfi with my cpu at 1.45v and my mem at 3.3v. Can I expect the same results with this heatpipe board? Also is there room to install maze4 blocks in a SLI setup with this board?

The board I am looking at buying is the SLI board with the heatpipe.

Im stuck with 200*11 2T .. instead of 260*11 1T .. no difference?

I cant clock higher with 2T .. doesnt matter what timings, multi etc I try. Anything higher than 200 HTT 2T gets unstable.

2T with OC locks up and 1T makes the computer shut down.


Strange thing is, I diddnt have any problems running 1T with a slight (230-240) at the beginning. Then I had to lower HTT to 200 for 1T. Now I cant even run stock IE SPD timings and stock HTT etc.

I have a good feeling about this board. I have the A8N-SLI Deluxe (which is prolly going back in my gaming rig tonight) and its awsome besides for beeing limited to 235-240 HTT:
If the Premium is as stable as the Deluxe AND can do 260-270 HTT 1T im as happy as can be :)

The Premium is not in stock until ... *checking the supplyer* ... w00t .. they arrived this morning :banana:

This is looking good. I installed the mobo in my gaming rig and hit the powerbutton. Entered BIOS, set time&date, 250 HTT *11, boot priority, EB @ 3-2-2-8 1T and Saved.

Now im running prime95 blend :)

Gonna let prime run for an hour and then i´ll se if she can take 260*11 and 290*10.

So far this mobo seems to be awsome.


EDIT:

Discovered a strange BIOS issue. The vcore options 1.4125 to 1.4625 does not seem to work. When using them I only get 1.39v. If set to 1.4875 vcore is 1.48v
1.48v is to much for my SLK948U and 21db 92mm fan, so CPU gets rather hot. 60c and then prime fails if I try to do more than 2890Mhz.

Im currently running 1005 which is shipping BIOS. The vcore issue is most likely fixed in newer BIOSs.
Im testing 1006 and 1007 beta tomorrow and im going to post some screenies if somebody wants to see.

Now running 263*11 1T .. prime and super-pi seems stable.

This looks promising. All I need now is to remove the HS and slap on my water cooling for 3Ghz gaming .. I hope so anyway :D

Cant say I miss the Fatal1ty....

Just got home from work and im doing some more testing.

Right now im at 280*11 .. 1T of course.

Just a quick screenshot.. not done testing stability yet.

Too bad I dont have any TCCD. Would be nice to see if the board could handle 280++ 1:1

Regarding problems with 1T, is that for 2x1G or 4x512MB? Anyone with 2x1G experiencing problems?
