Another guy over @ [H] got an 0608MPMW and seems to be having pretty stellar results as well. I think we can officially call these guys the 0550VPMW killers. :D
Well I ordered another one. Praying I get another one with a good stepping, preferrably 0608MPMW. :cool: I'm so broke now, haha.

Wtf are you talking about.. 165 vs 170 doesn't make a difference, it's all about the week and mem controller. VPMW vs MPMW doesn't matter either, VPMW just shows that the 0550 were made on whatever day "V" is on week of 12/14-21 and MPMW just shows the 0608's were made probably monday on week of 2/1-7

Advanced Chipset- SSE/SSE2 Instructions Enabled at def. Change it to disable. It´s not a good thing, you´ll prolly lose some performance and some things will not run but it should make your cpu more stable. I found this thing when i first switched from Ultra-D to Expert and it couldn´t run prime at the clock it used to run with Ultra-D. I tried everything with Expert but no matter what i did it still failed instantly on Expert. But after changing that setting it primed like it did on Ultra-D. Just so you´d know i ran 2,8GHz 1,375v on Ultra 12 hours prime, on Expert it needs at least 1,425v for 2,8ghz.:(Quote:

865pe: Actually Large FFTs are more stressful on the CPU because the mem controller is stressed too. It gives off more heat and makes the temps go up 2-3C on my 0550vpmw than running small ffts.
Finally got my temps severly down! Looks like my chips likes sub 40C degrees.
Ran loops of 3dmark06 at this setting and seems stable, but havent had time to prime it yet. Max temp on CPU was 38C degrees at these settings..

Just recently bought a ihs-less 165 from someone on XS, dunno the stepping or anything, whats the crappiest o/c people have gotten on 165? Can I expect 2.65ghz on a big typhoon ?

I have an Opteron 170 0550 VPMW on an Asus A8N SLI Premium with OCZ Platinum Rev2 3200 RAM.
I was able to get dual Prime95 stable a few months ago at 260 FSB with RAM at 1:1 (400) 2.5-3-3-6.
I started getting some weird STOP errors that indicated RAM could be an issue and decided to run Prime95 again.
To my surprise, I am now only able to run stable at RAM settings of 3-4-4-8.
My question is, what is the likely culprit - one of the core's memory controllers or the RAM itself?
Could it be due to changes in my Windows XP SP2 environment since then such as AMD vs Intel CPU drivers, hotfixes etc.?
I read somewhere that TCCD memory can lose it's overclocking ability when run at high voltage (I was running 2.9V) over time.

Best steppings are anything 0550, and anything CCB1E. 0609 looks promising too.
Expect 2.8 Ghz minimum. 2.9+ if you are lucky enough to get CCB1E.
