Not drive for drive but You can get real close if you make a 20-25GB RAID0 slice with an Intel controller. (That is unless you also slice the Raptors)
Here are my 4 cheepo 80GB Hitachi DJ's with a 25GB slice on a ICH9R controller.

How hot does every1's PWMS get?
I did the 4-40 bolt mod and I know its making good contact plus I have fans over it.
Current voltages are
Vcore 1.38V
MCH 1.52V (set)
CPU VTT 1.42
ICH stock
ICHIO stock
PWMs are hitting 81C under prime load
machine is clocked at 3.6ghz 9x400

how many and what kind of drives?
did you clear cmos with the battery out and power cord unplugged for about five minutes?...make sure you push the power button once after unplugging the PSU power cord to dump all the capacitors of any stored current...then go through the cmos clearing with the battery out.
if you unhooked the drives at one time, CMOS might still have that data stored and it is looking for the drives and other USB devices that were once attached....it sounds like a conflict of assigned resources.
used artic silver ceramique. Before the boltmod and fan the pwms would hit 60-70C at stock volt and clock spds... I couldn't overclock because the temps would keep rising. now it seems to have just settled at 81C. I know it makes good contact I've looked at it after I mounted it, the bolts can even bend the mobo, but I loosened it a tiny bit so it won't bend so much.
What are those fans rated at in amps? I'd like to know because I definately said no to this when my Sanyo Denki's blew out 2 of my Fan controllers. They were rate .6 amps. My recent fan controller I didn't dare do this because my girlfriend brought it over from Japan and I don't want it blowing out.
Here is my 109g (including dual boot partioned) raid slice on 3 x 7200.10's (slim version) clean/fresh install, minimal drivers

Wow, there have been alot of posts. To answer some questions, I have Crucail Ballitix Tracer DDR2800 and I am running two 320SATA on raid 0 using intels raid drives (I get a error message, and my screen hangs for about 15 seconds but if I press esc it goes the the next srcreen. When I went into the raid tools, I did not see any option to fix the problem only to delete and reinstall, which I will do for Vista). I also have two drives on IDE.
This is the first time I heard of good stories about Vista 64, I guess it is ready?
Thanks.
ok I found out what was the problems with my pwm temps, the tiny 40mm fan I attatched had a HUGE hub and the air wasn't being pushed through properly. I attatched my Thermaltake Smartfan 80mm pushing 70CFM and now temps hover around 48-49C load
Out of curiousity, why do then PMW temps get so much higher on a quad-core system? Something with the additional die on the CPU?
So I left it where it got stuck over night and 11 hours later I woke up and windows was installed. Go figure. RAID is slowwwwwwwwwwww though. 75mb read lows. Returning this thing to mwave. ASUS saves the day!
ordered Abit IP35-PRO
stuff i have
E6750
Scythe Infinity HSF
2x2GB Crucial Ballastix DDR2-800 PC2-6400
eVGA 8800GT 512MB
Western Digital 250GB 7200RPM SATA
Sony CD/DVD
CorsairHX 520W
Vista Home Premium 32 Bit
voltage changes have no effect. I even backed it down to 266fsb with a touch of mch and icihio set to 1.6, i dont like to roast my SB=D IDE mode is unstable aswell, so something happned.
1.29 MCH has always been stable for me at 400fsb, for 418 or higher i needed only 1.33 or max 1.4
anyway waiting on the cross sship still, if its not here tommrow, im gonna call dennis at abit and yell at him
Maybe it was about me? Cause I mentioned in a earlier post that I puched a Promise RAID PCI IDE controller card for my two IDE drives. The point being I want more harddrive speed, the mobo does not provide IDE RAID 0 and it was ony $20.00. Not installing it untill after I install Vista 64 and I am not installing that until I recieve my 8800GT in about two weeks.
don't worry about it...you're not responsible for someone elses reactions.
i have a $380+ 4 port Areca Raid card that i won't ever trade-sell-giveaway...it is a very nice card, albeit expensive.
the Areca card can change stripes on-the-fly without disturbing your current install...try doing that to intel!:D
AND...the best feature of all, it is transportable unless the bios of the new mobo is dorked up...i've seen that with a guy who has an Asus Maximus SE board...the board bios won't allow him to boot into the Areca raid bios...luckily for him, he can access the areca bios from windows...areca has an HTML prog that allows full access of the card bios...a very nice feature.
ahhhh..it is a form of Raid...it is just NOT fault-tolerant....so...it should never be used in mission critical environments.
that is why i store important data on a solo independent drive which has no OS...it is made into an extended partition with a logical drive.
Thanks for your concern. I am not worried or insulted. But I am trying to refrain my self from making to many posts. I just want my posts to have substance, not like this one :)
Just to let you know I also plan to have a solo drive to back up my files. I use to use the two IDE as those drives right now. I am acutally going to buy one more drive to act as a backup. Whats CRAZY is I have over a Terabyte of space, have my computer for two weeks and I am starting to get nervous about not having enough harddrive space, hate deleting good movies. Hopefully this will be my LAST computer purchase besides the HR-03 Thermaltake GPU heatsink for my 8800GT, for a very long time. Just waiting for a good deal on harddrive, probably I will get a 400GIG.
Guys I have a strange problem with my cpu fan and IP35 Pro that I never had such a problem in 20 years of working with pc's !
sometime when I reset my system within windows, the fan will not began to spin, and I must power down and power up my whole system to make cpu fan to spin.
anyone with similar problem out there? or I have a bad board?!
I really dont think the cpu fan have a problem itself.
quick question, planning to upgrade mobo, whats general consensus on this board? will it be as much of an annoyance as my current p5b dlx?
I just got mine and I already love it. I switched from a DFI p965s and before that I had a p5b dlx. I am able to overclock the memory much easier on this board.
I have mine for about two weeks. I am really supprised that I have running stable at 3.6Ghz, with limited overclocking experiance.
I do have a couple of quarks, such as my RAID drive gives me an error message at the boot screen but still works. I plan to fix it in about two weeks when I install Vista 64. The new beta bios is amazing and obviously amazing forum support. If you are looking for this mobo, its on sale at the egg right now.
You have to clear the CMOS and take out the battery for a few minites after you install the new bios. The thread is part of Ace's signature.
So even with my quarks, I totaly recommend this mobo.
Definitely, if that doesn't work you can try the sysfan header as well. Sean, are you using the stock intel heatsink and fan? Joshua, glad to see your overclock is working out for you! On the RAID screen during boot up is it saying "error occurred" on one of your drives in the array? Mine did that once when vista crashed due to an unstable OC, yet all of my data was still fine. I did a WD advanced diagnostics test and verified the volume data in the intel matrix storage console in windows and everything came back ok. To get rid of the error message, all i did was right click the port with the drive that had the error and selected "mark as normal" in the maxtrix storage console. Fixed my error during bootup and the status is ok now. Hopefully thats the error you are talking about or i just typed all of that for no reason lol....
Thanks for reply friends,
It will occur randomly when I reset my windows (not resuming from s3 or hybernate)
and yes I am using a stock intel HSF and it works great for me as follow :
intel 6320 @ FSB 400 = 2800Mhz , 1.38v (guru reads 1.36 because of vdroop!) and it will max out @ 55c
since my HSF have a 4pin cpnnector, can I put it in a 3pin header?
Thanks again.
RAID 0 isnt redundant, is non parity and striped, and isnt very stable past a few disk. It isnt used generally inside of enterprise or soho at all, only some design studios may run raid 0 for the speed.
you know all this ace!
what i was telling him was, it is kinda of dumb to buy a controller if you plan to just run raid 0, i would only get a card if it was raid 10, 5 or 0+1, which are recongnized by the creater or the RAID system, unlike 0
sorry grammar wasnt my strong suite in school
YES THAT HAPPENED TO ME :) THANKS!!! NOW I 100% RECOMMEND THIS MOBO :). My raid is two 320gig maxtors (rebandaged seagates).
This forum ROCKS!! Will try it maybe this weekend... just so busy.
Hey I am looking for either a 400 or 500 gb harddrive to act a my storage area. Man, game files are BIG :). Any recommendations? Fry's has a 500GB Western Digital for $100.00 that is kind of the best price I see.
Haha same thing happend to me with 320GB maxtors in RAID, I just got 4x of em from Fry's and 2 of them are in RAID, once during oc session one of the drives showed up as error occurred, luckily I had an acronis image backup of a fresh vista install on one of the non raided drives.
The new BIOS really helps with vdroop from idle to load, I mean my vcore is set to 1.4785 but shows 1.4-1.41 but that is where it stays idle or load. Currently 8x450 stable gonna push harder as soon as I see how hard I can push memory, see if memory can do 1080 and stay stable.
grammar wasn't my strong suit, PERIOD!;)
no secret that i have an Areca raid card, which is pricey but worth every buck, IMO.
a dumb statement is expected from a non-beholder of a PCIe Raid card...if you owned an Areca raid card, you would immediately know that it is not a dumb purchase even if it is used for Raid 0.
ooo another funny thing I noticed If I ever attatch my seagate external drive to the Jmicron esata ports it makes the Nvidia drivers go haywire in vista causing the OS to systematically crash. The screen will start to flicker every 10 seconds with a message saying video drivers have crashed and recovered, within a minute it starts flickering every 2 seconds and then crashes. I don't really mind having the seagate connected via usb for now. I'm thinking of the rocketraid Card for a more affordable $100 and it uses a pci-e x1 slot, 2 internal sata II for RAID and 2 esata ports!!!
are the nvidia drivers the latest WHQL?
you might want to download the latest Jmicron drivers to install into your vista setup.
I sometimes have the same problem, even when doing a cold boot. Right now I'm just rebooting and it usually is ok the next time. I'm using a Sythe 4-pin fan on a downdraft CPU cooler - with the fan attached to the 4pin CPU fan header, since I like the RPM feature with this header.
Hopefully a later bios might fix it. Using Bios ID:14 right now.
I've hesitated on the beta bios 16 because the file size is about half the size of the non-beta bios versions. Is this a concern?
the beta file is compressed so it will be smaller in size until it's taken out of the zip or rar file...if you are comparing the file size to abit's official bios releases, then yes, their will be a difference in file size...abit's official bios release includes 5 files where as the beta only has the bios file.
just purchased a Retail QX9650 and Abit's IX38 QuadGT board...we'll see now how the two boards compare.
I'm becoming more and more frustrated with this board...
I just got some new memory: Crucial Ballistix 8500 after seeing the wonderful clocks people are getting with these sticks.
Where others are easily running 1100+ w/ cl4 I can barely get 1000 cl4 stable (errors out 45 min into P95).
I've tried upping my FSB to keep it in the 1st two dividers (read they're the easiest to oc) and no go... 450x8 w/ 1:1.2 for 1080... NOTHING
BOOOOOO!!!!
I think it's time to start looking for my next mobo
I just don't know what I'm doing wrong!!!
Anybody able to bail me out of this so I can keep my pretty abit board???
voltages my man, voltages...shove it up its arse.:D
why frustrate yourself with P95...it is useless unless you are going to fold or play heavy cpu demanding games...anything other than that, run wPrime, specifically the 1024M stability bench....the 1024 bench will make sure you have the right vcore to handle everyday apps.
i recommend max MCH and ICHIO with Vdimm around 2.4 when running P95.
I've been afraid to raise my mch past 5.8 or whatever it is... Is it safe to run @ 6.4 or 7.2? 24/7?
If it is, maximg it out will get me the clocks I'm looking for?
here's hoping!
has anyone run into the problem of Uguru reporting temps wrong?
every now and again Ugure will flash from 11c to 128c im sure the computer is not running 128c but it says it is. if ileave the program running after that issue it somtimes develops a horrid memory leak causing my whole system to slow down.
any ideas?
oh btw im using a coolit eliminator cooler so the temps are usually pretty low.
Yes, have you upgraded to the latest version 3.106 of uGuru? Sonofander, i've learned with overclocking to never assume you will reach the same speeds as others are. You will be quickly disappointed if you do! I have the crucial ballistix ddr 667 with the micron D9 and i cant even get CL4 at anything above 900 so consider yourself lucky :D I'm currently at 5-5-5-10 @ 986 mhz From my experience (and everyone has their own opinion about this) more clock speed FEELS faster to me than tighter timings.
i believe i have 3.104 wich is the latest i can find, where are you finding 106?
also i am using Vista ult. x64 if that makes a difference.
and one last thing what is a safe PWM temp? or rather whats the limit that i should worry about?
I use core temp to measure my cpu temp....uguru is always wrong on cpu temp for me, i am on vista 64 as well. Here's the link for 3.106 http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/mothe..._NAME=IP35+Pro maybe you will have better luck with it :) I do use uguru for all of the other changes and for watching my pwm temp however. I would say if you start getting into high 60's under load you should start thinking about adding a fan to your pwm area :yepp:
HD Tach is reporting that my Esata drive is only running at half speed (1.5 instead of 3.0) both the drive and port are rated for 3g is there some setting I'm missing here?
might be a bios setting as the JMB363 supports SATAII,thats what the 2 Esata connectors are on.
http://www.jmicron.com/JMB363.html
are you running the newest driver for the JMB363?
I was a bit confused with Abit's site as it lists both a Jmicron install disk and SATA drivers. D/L the SATA and I ended up with Raid config utility... Tried the "install disk" file and that was drivers so I tried installing them both consecutively for fun checking drive speeds after each install. I think what actually bumped the speed up a bit though was changeing BIOS settings to AHCI, which bumped me up to about 2.30 which is better then 1.5 but still curious why I'm not getting the full 3.0GB speed. Given this is my only drive until my SAS controller comes in for my 15k's I'm kind of wanting this Esata drive to work at full speed in the mean time.
Well after alot of waiting for some hardware to arrive (3 months lol) I cancelled my order which included 4 x 1GB Crucial PC8500s
So I have now (in the mail now) a set of PC6400 Reaper-Xs (4GB (2x2048) D/C Kit PN - OCZ2RPX800EB4GK) for my dust collecting IP35-PRO!
Has anyone had much success with these sticks? I've seen an overclocking guide on OCZ for these sticks and a review on pro-clockers.com but nothing else. Surely they should be better than having 4 x 1GB sticks! right?!? (If nohing else than I could upgrade to 8GB if needed! lol)
They should arrive this week and then I'll start but I'll be on air and the stock heatsink for a little while until my Water Cooling gear arrives next week (also in mail but from US)
Finally got a ABIT IP-35 Pro board after having problems with a XFX 680i which arrived DOA(not the best of starts for my first build) but i am more then happy now with the IP-35 Pro.
Just started to overclock my Q 6600 go (3.4 ghz ,32 degrees idle) but i am unsure about setting the memory up which apart from changing the voltage to 2.1..everything else reminds unchanged.
To be honest i dont know where in the Bios to make changes to the memory so thought i better ask for advice before i alter something which turns the sticks into smoking pieces of plastic.
The memory is 2x1GB Corsair Dominator, PC2-8500 (1066) which is cooled by 3 Corsair fans.
Will the memory be running at 1066 by default.?
Thanks
300 is the theoretical limit for the interface but the drives mechanically aren't capable of providing that.
Even your 230 will be in burst - continuous transfer rates will be under 100 even for a Raptor.
No, it won't be running 1066 by default.
CPU : DRAM ratio is in uGuru utility>Oc Guru
RAM voltage is in uGuru utility>Oc Guru>Voltages Control
Timings >Advanced Chipset
Thanks for the help Heidfirst.
Unfortunatley after i made the changes to the ram i tested it with VPrime Benchmark and it could not complete the test,it rebooted.
So erm.. i could do with abit more help.:)
Before i changed the Ram settings i was running just over 3.4Mhz with a Dram speed of 756 and it was all very stable.
I changed to.3.6Mhz with a Dram speed of 800 and the timings to..
CAS 5
TRCD 5
TRP 5
TRAS 15
COM 2T
Volts where unchanged at 2.2.
I didnt change anything else but at these settings it was unstable.
Any ideas where i went wrong.?
Thanks again.
Very strange. I'm using a usb card reader also, but have USB Storage enabled without any probs.
Later batches of Ballistix aren't as good as the first ones. I've got a pair 2 weeks ago and the best it can do is 1080mhz 4-5-5-15 with 2.375v. Since u're using 4x1fgb, u can't expect much.
After testing 2 P35 boards (IP35 pro and gigabyte P35 DS4) with 6 different mem kits all i can say that latest Intel chipsets are way more picky with mem.
its 50/50 at this point.... if you do have problems i suggest this stuff.

if you want 4gigs look at this stuff

Ace:
Here's my HD Tach Graph (click-through for full-sized view)

numbers looks good
just to make sure can you check the drive? look for jumpers and scan over the manual, see if they require jumpers on there for sata2 support. i know with seagate to get higher numbers you have to removed the jumper, since it limits the hd to sata I. if you see benches it does make a difference.
It's a Cavalry 500GB with no jumpers but you guys are in agreement that this is about the best performance I should expect from it so that works for me. Thanks for the assist. I'll be curious to see how those numbers look once I have the 15k 2.5 SAS drives up and running with a good quality hardware accelerated raid controller.
Are you talking about Crucial Ballitix or Crucial Ballitix Tracer? I think the Tracer's are considered on level up from regular ballitix. Thats what I have and I was doing 1140DDR2 stable but now I am doing ddr2975 at 1:1.2 at 3.618Ghz. But that is with 2 x 1gig, I just recieved my new RAM a few days ago, I was going to install it when I upgrade to Vista64 and I will do that in about two weeks. I hope I don't have any problems.
Completely different question...
I have the latest Uguru program and when I change any of the "mode select" my computer freezes. I am pretty sure I have allowed all fans in the bios.
Any ideas?
what OS and bit?
I think you are talking to me. OS... XP Pro
bit???
I did not think to much about it. It once worked.. like my first two day that I had the mobo. I am soon going to Vista 64 and was about to trouble shoot that problem then. But if anyone has experenced the same problem, maybe they could tell me the cure...
I have Abit IP35 PRO Mobob and EVGA 8800GT 512MB SC
at first it wasn't working right it would boot to windows but then lose signal within 5-10 minutes
i went to bios I saw it was set a PCI-E 1.0a
there was 2 options 1.0 and 1.0a
I put it to 1.0 and all seems great now.
My question is, i thought i would at leas have pci-e 1.1 with this relatively new mobo
and does being pci- 1.0 degrade my performance? or no because the card doesent max out the bandwidth?
so what is my mobo using 1.0 yes right
so i dont even have 1.1?
i thought p35 was 2.0 also
well just let me know if my performance will beless or i dnt even come close 2 using up the bandwidth
well it's not it fine @ 1.0
so my question
do i get a performance hit for being 1.0 and not 1.0a or it dont matter because I wil never max out 1.0 bandwidth
your question is a bit hard to answer... since its just a spec addin more amps to supply the video card. in the case of 1.1 it was suppose to add a 24x pci to the spec. in this case no it wont hinder the card but if by having to choose 1.0 in the bios for it to work lowers the speed of the slot. the actually speed the slot is running at ie 4x/8x/16x,is what you need to be worried about.
Well if that's the case. I am sure it's @ x16 link width.
Here's pic of CPUZ, GPUZ, and Rivatuner diagnostic report'
sorry for orthos

Oh... I thought they were binned differently. I read some reviews and it seemed that the Tracers were a bit more overclockable, but I think you are probably right and maybe it is the luck of the draW.
I also thought they had micron D chips on the memory.
I am running XP Pro 32bit right now.
lol got my RMA today, they sent me an AB-9 board instead of an ip35pro.

thinking to get IP35-Pro soon but I'm concern about the vdroop on the mobo. maybe someone can provide the below info? thanks.
vcore
bios set | bios reading (idle;load) | uguru reading (ilde; load) | DMM reading (ilde; load)
vdimm
bios set | bios reading (idle;load) | uguru reading (ilde; load) | DMM reading (ilde; load)
If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can fix the vdroop ;) Here is the link to johnny bravos fix
http://www.itsjohnnybravo.com/Overcl...tos/vdroop.jpg
ya pretty dumb, i think its only one guy in the RMA his name is dennis, and he isnt fond of answering the line either...
Well i finally got around to getting my Q6600 for my IP35-Pro.
I put my Reaper-X 6400s (2x2048) in and i noticed that you cant fit 4 of them on the IP35-pro. The DIMMS are just too fat!!
Just in the middle of formatting my drives before installing XP then Vista. Will let you know how it goes!
I only have a 6600GT atm till the GTSs G92 come out!
my E6750 seems to need around 1.47 Vcore to be stable. This is about 1.52 vcore set in bios
is this normal?
ok dudes two problems here , first uguru crashes randomly in vista x64 and it cannot recognize my usb bluetooth device , it is listed as unknown.
bios 14 with a quad and 4 gigs of ram are the specs
