The Official Dual Core Opteron Overclocking Thread

I ran 8x325 @ 1.5v for over 10hrs stable last night. Here's a screeny to prove it. Funny thing about these is I can go up to 350 htt with no problem. I probably could go even higher, I just haven't tried it yet. My memory is half of my bus speed right now. I thought somewhere around 315mhz that these things started fizzling out. Any way I think I am going to stick with 2.6 for now and play around with the htt and lowering the voltages all around. It would be cool if I could get my memory to run at ddr 700 :banana:

Well it seems these DFI Experts might undervolt a tad (Which I prefer actually). I dont want to set something up to actually measure the real vcore, So Im going to use the :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty onboard sensors as a reference.

Stock (Auto 1.35Bios) 1.325 (CPU-Z, Smartguardian) I could get 2.45Ghz Stable 2.475 Failed in 20 minutes.

At 1.45 (Bios) 1.425(CPU-Z, Smartguardian) I could do around 2560.

At 1.475 Bios 1.45 (CPUZ etcc...)

Nice results, I was hoping you might reach 2.7 or so though with it running 1.2V at stock mhz. I just got my Opty a week ago, but I am happy with an FX-57 for 150 bucks, and you should also be happy with basically an FX-60 for no where near the price.:woot:

And lets face it, almost 600mhz on an Athlon 64 setup is a huge jump, I would like to see guys getting 600mhz from a Pentium D on air! Not without lava flowing from your case.

im the same as you pretty much. 1.45 is getting me 10x260 stable
and ive tired 1.5v 10x270 but it was a no go

Well another update. I let it burn in for 10 hours today at 2550 @1.45 Bios (1.424 CPU-z) It passed with flying colors.

Going for 2575 now at 1.45. I really do think this CPU is a winner :D

Gonna try for a quick run at 1.5 @ go for 2.7 I will not put any more than 1.55 bios through this CPU, I have a good one dont want to take the chance of ruining it. I am more than happy at 2.6 gonna shoot for 2.7 at a reasonable vcore and call it a day :)

mine being 260x10 stable with 1.45v would not work at all at 270x10, ive put u max of 1.568v into it but no luck

Well my Opty 170 is harder to understand than a woman I think...... With more than one week of testing, here's the strange thing:

When I test stability with dual SP2004 (it's prime95), the core 0 is weaker than core 1. EX: 2700 mhz, 1.5V in BIOS (1.46V) core 0 fail in 13 mins and core 1 is ok for over 1 hour (did not try further).

BUT!!! If I test using SuperPi 32M, core 0 is better than core 1 !!!!!!!!!1
EX: 2800 mhz 1.5V + 113% (1.65V) core 0 is able to do 32M, but core 1 fail in 4 mins.

However, I'm ok for now with 2800mhz for playing NFSMW without problems.

I'm sticking with 2.6. I'm very happy with a 600 mhz overclock. I think my memory is bad though. Can't do the rated ddr600 speed without bluescreens. I think I'm going to try and rma it. I'm currently working on reducing my voltage and going for a 24hr prime for the processor. Was at 1.5, going for 1.425. I already know 1.4 won't cut it. It's a shame that this thing doesn't like more volts. Even at 1.6v I wasn't stable at 2.7 :(

Charloz24, it sounds like it might be your memory timings holding you back, not your CPU. You should try testing at 2T once just for kicks. If you can pass, then it's a matter of figuring out how to make your RAM play nice with your Opteron.

That's possible, I will try that.....

But it's strange, because my mem is running great at 300mhz, and now I'm just at 280....

But who knows!

Well I did try at 2T and did not help anything.....

Will try with more mem voltage I think...

I'm so near of my 2800 mhz goal!

Would an opteron 165 run on a DFI NF3 ultra D? because I can afford the cpu, but no way I replace my x800XT agp for a pcie:/

im staying with 939 dfi nf4 ud board and 4800 plat elite edition ram

You can buy a X2 4800+ or an Opteron 180, which have the same multi (12x) and cache(2*1Mb).

3Ghz seems fair with Opteron and phase change cooling. Now, if you want to save (a lot of) money you could buy an Opteron 170 (multi 10x), and run it at 300*10 with sync RAM (1:1), since your ram can handle 300Mhz. I think every Opteron can 3Ghz with your cooling. Mind the cold bug though.

170 0546SPMW seems to have a weaker cpu1 core but it responds to cpuburn k7 really well so guess needs a bit of burn in, cpu0 is a high clocker though which is good cause cpu0 is the one that OS operates on :D

Popped in a 175 0541 RPMW for the first time yesterday and stress primed overnight at 2.4ghz auto vcore = 1.312v and looks to me like core 0 is the weaker one for me...

Seems that 0546SPMW is just like my 0543TPMW. I can barely do 2.75Ghz stable at a high voltage, but 2.8 core1 fails prime in 1 minute (it does run for a minute though), and will last longer if Core0 is Not priming at the same time.
I have not gone above 1.56 Vcore though...

Could someone who is a bit talented please help me with bios settings.
Core 0 is stable at about 2.85GHz but Core 1 fails everything over 2.7GHz, I have tried up to 1.65V on the CPU. Now I am running 2.7GHz with 1.5V ( 1.55V in BIOS ) With 1.55V Core 0 is stable some hours, higher voltage doesnt help.

BTW, look at my 12V, this is los 11.58V, this SS is while dualpriming, it goes down from 11.77V to 11.58 while dual priming. And the 3.3V isn't quite 3.3V either, do these affect my OC abilities ?

i cant get my 0543TPMW stable at 2800 for the life of me. I am now on high end watercooling, and even 1.6vcore wasnt enough. One crappy core always failed after about 10 minutes... I aint going any higher since i bought a digital multimeter today and tested it. Although reading 1.49 in smart guardian, its truly 1.51, and under dual prime95 it jumps to 1.54 instantly. Smartguardian is NOT accurate at all, and neither is the bios...

Like a lot of people you have a "weaker" core; Some say that burning in both core could help.

Concerning your PSU your variations are within ATX specs, so there's nothing scary on this side.

About your ram timings you can have a look here.

Do you remember which stepping is your 165 (I just gather statistics about models found in Norway :) )?

Well after doing some burn-in and just using this 180 for a while I think I've found its max stable oc, I might try and squeeze a bit more out of it however, I think I can get it 2750 and possibly 2800 stable @ 1.7 vcore, it just runs a wee bit warm at those temps which I don't like.

I'll settle for 2.7 though...
