What so what you really running your X2-4400 at just the 2.4Ghz in your sig or the 2.7Ghz you mentioned? What type of cooling you running? What voltage? I was just able to squeeze 2.7Ghz out of mine runs on the very high end in benches of 48C but otherwise max I've been able to get it was 46 for a split second doing 3D Renderings. Its stable too but ya im sitting in the same boat as you, I can get 2.8ghz to run, in windows and all but throw a bench at it, and say hello to BSOD (god been a long time since I seen that screen).

I'm just glad I got 2.7 since thats what I really wanted at least.

As far as the X2 - I run it at 2.4ghz as my base setup. I just installed the Zalman 9500 - which is amazing. Temps dropped 10-15 degrees. I am sure I could go morefor my base. I have to bump the volts up to 1.3 to get that stable, but it is very easy to hit. Temps are low 30's - sometimes idles at 29. Load is mid 40's. It hits low 50's if I give it 1.55 volts to run 2700 or 2800. Definitly not a temp issue. It is just one core that hurts me. I cannot run prime95 with the 2700 tests but 3d05 works most of the time. I am sure it is a memory or other issue I am just not savvy enough to figure out. some night I will muck with it a little. I am sure if I lower the memory timings and pump up the volts I can get a bench at 2800.

Might try 2700 with the 5.12's tonight to try and hit 10250.

625 on the core freezes display on 1.2v. I really don't feel like going higher on the voltage honestly. Prefer to keep it under 1.2v

Well for some odd reason yesterday my standard 630/720 clock failed... It would lock up the system every time I tried it.

I havn't figured out why might be the voltage finally getting to it but its stable @ my previous clocks 615.6/720. So basically I lowered my voltage/clock thats all. Sucks but no clue why it would lock up the system other then it was an issue running at that speed which I hadn't seen in hours of gaming. Not complaining about it at all still got a stealler clock :)

From what I can see you guys are cranking these voltages up, when you reach ceilings and I don't think they can really handle them. I've had zero issues under 1.2 volts.

I have a x1800xl Sapphire OEM under Watercooling Runs 40c all the time.

I can't get past 1.20 or so volts on the Core. It locks the screen up in 3dmark 2005 instantly.

Anyone else know what the problem is?

Yes, it's the reason these chips became XL's and not XT's. I'm telling you, these things don't need ridiculous voltage to clock them up.

Yeh OC for both. I've heard the ATI is better for memory and voltage or something. I don't know. I'm not going to screw around much more until something final comes out, and I can mod the bios and be done with it. This thing runs flawless at these settings.

Thats what I thought because the memory is running so high for that voltage. Just so you know also your only running 1.15V on the GPU ;)

Yeh but who knows what the overclocker tool is doing. There are reports of it changing timings, producing higher overclocks. I'll wait for something final. Problem is, I don't think my core will handle XT voltages. At this point I'll be happy with 600/700-750. It's better than stock. Hopefully an editor will be released soon. All the current flashing tools, work just fine. I saved off my bios already.

Hes using OC to get those clocks. That program loosens the timings on the ram considerably to hit those speeds.

Example I could hit 820Mhz with just 1.95V. Used ATI tool same voltage with 650 (found out that was unstable at that voltage but anyways) i got a 400 point increase in 05.

Did not notice the OC tool was being used. That makes more sense.

Small update for those wanting to see someone get stupid and flash their XL with an XT bios. I did it tonight. I posted the results here:

Ouch glad you got it back working.... As for loosened timings ya the PE bios might work if you can get the core that high expecially with that voltage that its pumping (what 1.45V some reports?). But having the memory with loosened timings at that speed has you loose preformance instead of gaining it.

Also gets me wondering if the XT bios's are really even good for the XL if it can run those speeds. Since they have a 2D and 3D clock and possibley a voltage change between the 2 settings. The XL doesn't that I can tell its just 1 voltage/clock.


Oh tried a game I havn't played in a little while Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. Man I remember running at around 40-100 FPS on a 1280x1024 screen and i think with everything turned on. My new monitor rulez lol, run at 1920x1200 and the lowest I've seen it get is mid 70's with averages in the 100's. Damn love this card. This is with the card at 600/700 (1.175/2.154/2.004V) With 615/720 I was mid to upper 80's but unstable. Guess my core was causing issues at that voltage, but did play for 3 hours (1 hour too long lol forgot the time) without an issue. But what ever ti was it picked up the error pretty quickly and crashed the game (under 2min in 3D mode). Hmm might be my new clock tester, going to have to try ghost recon at these settings since that seemed to be picky also for some wierd reason, you know that old game lol pick about clocks and not Quake 4, FEAR, or AoE III.

I love pulling out old games - always cool to play them at settings you could not when they were released.

I mucked around with the memory last night. There is definitly a coorelation between the core voltage and the memory. Once I get in the 700's there is a direct relation to adding .025 memory bumps to bump every 10 notches in memory. Although, once I hit 730, with the core at base, it goes crazy. bumping up the core a notch allows me to move beyond 730. I figured it was time to get methodical about this - I always end up going right for the big clocks and never have tried to figure out the true relation to core/memory/voltage.

In the end - I do love this XL card. Even if I ran it at 600/600 it still smokes my old GT and 3D05's better than the GTX and those clocks are easy with minor volts. Fun stuff....

Ya its amazing what you can do with it... I think im going to try sticking around my 600/700 speed and try dropping the voltages til it becomes unstable. I really do think that 1.2V is truely the limit of the core over the long haul.

I'd really like to know what the memories true voltage is though. I mean in that techspec I posted a last week or the week before had a little information but gave no solid answer. There was the 1.8V typical with +/- .1V so that brings it to 1.9V on the top side where the memory starts at, yet its rated for faster. Then I saw the 2.5V as max. So confusing. But 2.154V seems to be the typical spot people raise voltage too, with 2.2-2.25 seems to be wehre people stop.

Deathman, try your 600 core at 1.15 or 1.175 like I had it. See what happens. I had no issues at those voltages until I went above them. I think 600 / 600 maybe 700 at the lowest voltage possible is going to be the safe bet with these cards.

Mine works so far with 1.175 @ 600 Core, its what I was running last night.

Memory is working dandy so far @ 700. And since memory either works or doesn't its easy to tell if its being stressed too far, and since my memory is 1.4ns its good for 700Mhz. Just got to find the sweet spot on the voltage for it, or try giving her more :)

What voltage are you reaching 700 on the mem with? I'm going to try it during lunch. Are you using ATI Tool for everything? OC Tool defintely laxes timings, as ATItool would crash out above 600 mem on 1.9v

I used ATITool for everything as soon as beta 9 came out.
2.154V Mem with 2.004V I/O Temps don't seem to increase from them running that warm but they do have there own sinks and a 120mm fan is blowing across them.

I can get up to 710Mhz without it artifacting in most games at that voltage. 2.184V I can get up to 720Mhz and 2.2V I can hit 730Mhz. Im sure the memory works at these fine, just that it was crashing but I did drop my core speed and voltage down so that mgiht help a little more on them going higher. I'll find out when I get home tonight to play with them a little more.

I'm sorry I'm confused on the 2.004 I/O. What uses that voltage?
