Anyone know if/when EVGA will put the X58A chipset on a Classified? I'm looking to buy one for Christmas but I'll hold of if USB 3.0 and SATA3 are right around the corner.
There is no X58A chipset. Those are added using additional chips.
I'm thinking about buying this board, as I sold my Q9650 setup and I just got a Core i7 950 on eBay at a cheap price. Is there any cons about this board I should know about?
My specs would be like this if I got this board:
Core i7 950 at 3.06Ghz
EVGA x58 Classified
12GB G.Skill 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM
2GB Sapphire 4870x2 ATI Radeon
32" LG HDTV at 1920x1080 1080p
1000 watt Antec Quattro PSU
And is it worth it to pay the price premium for this board?
I already have a 4870x2 and I plan to continue to use that. I'll wait and see for a worthy upgrade from both NVIDIA and ATI, though I may skip this generation because my 4870x2 is plenty enough for me.
I later got 1057 7-8-7-20 with tighter subs and b2b cas=4 (with the newer cpu tweaker beta) primestable for 6h or so... (did not test longer as it's been during summer and 34°C... I have not been running my rig for about 8 weeks now as I sold my big rad while waiting for my ordered single stages. Being quite busy the last weeks I was not able to even think of testing anyway (though I miss it).
Anybody know when the new bios for the E760 will be released? Got mine today and still no support for Westmere-EPs (Gulftown Xeons), bah :/
ok but u do know why
even though ure ram is stable for 2.1k 7-7-7-20 at 1.67set but u cant run prime
reason being is the vtt jump for 205 to 210 compared to 200 to 205
this also affects vcore scaling
guess this is the reason p55 can clock the ram high
to proove this i bet u can run 2.1 7-7-7-20 at 1.71v with no tweaks
also retestes the dmm on my board
my ut sg reading was accurate
my evga set voltage = ut sg read
Posted this over on EVGA forums as well...
...my E759 Classified board is done for...restarted the system this morning and could not boot any more. It does not want to detect any USB devices any more and just hangs at either 75 (HDD detect, rarely) or 7f (CMOS error, common). Nothing restores it. I tested every single piece of hardware by replacing with spare components, including the CPU with the same results. Resetting the BIOS does nothing, removing power and battery for a while does nothing...nothing works period. It always appears to go through the boot cycle then just hangs at post code 75 or 7f. USB devices never come on. They are powered, but not usable (i.e., not detected).
I wonder if this is the same problem that some have experienced starting with S225 BIOS? Scary to think about...what if the replacement board goes down the drain too after updating BIOS if that is in fact the culprit...
Thoughts? Anything I missed?
bios chip isnt making contact with all pins as it should. someone posted a fix on this issue a while back. i think they soldered it directly to the board.
now im not telling you to do that but you can most certainly double check that the bios chip is seated properly.
You mean it's all about the vtt-vdimm relation? I noticed the cpu needed too much of an increase of vtt voltage going from 2000 (1.35V set, 1.324V DMM read) to 2100MHz RAM (1.475V set, 1.46V DMM). This would limit stability strongly to about 2100 without subzero cooling. IMHO subzero could be the solution here. Will know soon.
You are the man! You just saved me an awesome board and the very least $50. I don't know how I did not think of that. I remember Peter posting about it some time ago now, but I did not think of it in the moment at all. Worked like a charm. First boot.
The chip must have loosened up over time. Thank you so much! :D
Dude, that bios is old as :banana::banana::banana:. And it won't support the Xeons, omly Gulftowns (= single socket chips) :(
rex2 eats the westmere's, only the microcode needs to be implented in bios for classified.
That happened to me the other day. Running the 227 bios on the 759. I plugged in a usb wifi key and my usb mouse disappeared. Even after reboot it would not show up or function. The only fix was to shut down and power down, and then reboot. Think they have a bios bug...
Also,
Anyone seeing a high cpu vtt voltage in the evga monitoring tool? Mine says 1.4 volts and I have it set at defaults I think. The only think thats remotely overclocked is my memory at 1600 1.65v and Turbo on at 133 qpi. What should I set the cpu vtt for normal operation vs overclock?
Thanks!
anyway figured out a few things and will post the result later for prime 12 hours
so far got up to 2100 7-7-7-2X ( X still trying to lower it down to 0) at 1.68v set
2 hours stable for the vdimm part with no adjustment on tFAW ,tWRWR etc.
my setup vdimm set = dmm voltage
btw from ure vdimm at 205
i am pretty sure u could have done the same at 1.66v
till the post ..
also the max stable from empirical evidence and tweaks available should be 2150 bclk 215
only tested on one gc initial at HT 0ff.
reason being i find HT off bettwer for vdimm tweaks and later on proceed to HT on for more dummy voltage adjustments only
seriously this board is damn easy to figure out
few bugs i found out on the bios however for A7 error.
not surprised at it cause of evga being innovative on certain IMC tweaks that are non-standard.
only happens if u manually set it instead of auto.
