I'm down with the 8500GT also. 128-bit + GDDR3 = perfection.

8500GT is ok :) 47€
Apparently there are some 8500GTs with DDR3, and they cost 1/3 more. The price for cheapest 8500GT is right but the one who can afford DDR3 version will have an upper hand... unless we make two categories, DDR2 vs DDR3.
Can we make a deal with nvidia and get a 20$ per card deal?LOL

We've learned that Nvidia has massive 1.5 million 8600GT cards in stock and it wants to get rid of the boards as soon as it can.
The 9600GT is already selling quite well and it needs to get rid of the 8600GT cards to make more space for the June launch of the 9500-series.
We've heard that this 1.5 million number includes both DDR3 and DDR2-based cards and we trust the source. At this particular time it won't be that easy to get rid of them and earn decent money at the same time.
It looks like ATI did mess up Nvidia’s graphics plans with its ridiculously low prices on the whole range of products, and this time around ATI played a dangerous game which was intended to kill Nvidia’s average selling price.
ATI lost money in Q1 2008 on the graphics, but it dragged Nvidia with it, and we are sure that it will affect Nvidia's numbers.
I'm up for 8500 GT. Open box GDDR3 cards can be had for $40 the US guys.
didn't noticed the 8500gt's with gddr3, but thats even better :)
ddr2 on 8400gs was a big pita
On my 9800GX2, OCP causes the same symptoms with black screen and ~0.2V
OCP and OVP have same symptoms (black screen, ~0v core) except OCP usually kicks in while under load and OVP kicks in at idle or load (sometimes only load though if your card increases voltage under load - G92 8800GT and GTS for example).
aight so when is this challenge going to be¿? and are we going to have a poll? or is the 8500gt the card? just trying to clear some stuff up. :D
ANDY SLOWLY SOBERS UP FROM CONSTANT DRINKING SINCE THE LAST COMPETITION
Hey Dinos, we knew the reported scores would be "fluid" due to me not being able to use a Microsoft un-natural keyboard ;) That's just sour grapes because you blew your cards to smithereens :D
That's sounds a really good idea, do you know anyone who has done this and give us some tips? I'm sort of thinking a person who may know how to overclock as well also. That would be great
Seriously though it would be very cool to have you back benching macci, it's been too long. Not sure about hybrid, would that mean we have to buy a motherboard, sounds expensive.
As for what card, where is the rumoured 128bit GF9 series equivalent of the 8400GS? That would remove the bandwidth limitation in one stroke and with so few SP's DDR2 would be fine. I heard that the 9400GS should be around, is it?
Regards
Andy
Here's mine Captive (urg?) 8400GS, just got it this morning - 26652 '01SE -> hwbot.org.
8400GS @837/529/1998 [no mipmap, only LOD], 1.49Vgpu - aircooled
C2D E8500@5169MHz, 1.69V
Crucial 8500F 2x512MB DDR3-1066@1810 7-7-6-21
ASUS P5K3 Deluxe
SS R404a cooled
Only had like three hours to play with it so more to follow next weekend. Besides, is LOD allowed? I see some weirdly fast runs in the top 5 league, bwanasoft comes to my mind first...

Can someone dump me a 8400GS 256MB BIOS, preferably Samsung IC memory. I've just flashed her with some weird ASUS bios, it gives me artifacts. All other BIOSes on MVKTech.net & TechPowerUP give me no picture (i've already blind flahsed this card like 6 times tonight).
Offcourse i forgot to dump the original BIOS before proceding :down:
Thanks, but blank screen again :/
Sorry if reviving this thread is a bad idea. Just thought i would ask to see if anyone is interested in doing this again. We got the low end chips just around the corner, so thought may be a good time to consider it.
also like, what is your opinion on how the last one went. was it fair? did the rules work for you and others?
it did for me, but be good to get some feedback

I'm still down for an 8500GT challenge, a very good option
I'd definitely down for a sub $60 card.
Im down
