Retail Abit IN9 32X-MAX - Pictures, observations and testing...

So far I am very impressed.

My reboot / boot issues where sometimes the system would hang are gone.
For the first time I'm able to OC my CPU to 3Ghz AND have my memory running near 1067Mhz at 5-5-5-15 2T (It's stock settings). I've only increased the CPU Voltage by one tick, and the DDR Voltage to the memory spec of 2.2V

I've run ORTHOS on the Memory, and on CPU / Memory for several hours and it works smoothly.

The only quirk I've had was initially after I flashed the system. It didn't initially save my settings. It saved all of the settings I changed in the regular BIOS menus, but it didn't save the settings I put in under uGuru in the BIOS. Going in a second time to set them did seem to take hold.

Overall it seems to be a much more stable bios than any of the previous ones I've used.

Well in an attempt to piss off just about everyone here :D .....

This was achieved on board with NO vmods and just third party air coolers for the SB and NB.....

I too use Swiftech NB cooling in ALL my rigs, BUT I DO like the SB heatsink AND the Mos-Fets' heatsink as well......Are they FULL cooper or mixed alu/cooper?...

Correct Omaster - the evercool will need to have its mounting bar redrilled to accommodate the SB mounting holes. Can be purchased on ebay for around a tenner - solid copper and you know it by the weight!

The NB is a simple fit wit the swiftech - tho I found the stock fan a little weak so mounted a more powerful fan on it.

The PWM heatsink - :D home made. Bought a £5 copper 478 cooler off ebay and sliced it up. then bevelled the underside for clearance and mounted it with the original hardware springs. I'll get some picks up with measurements for you to DIY it in future.

also if your making your own the bevel only needs to be about 1mm or so, just so that it doesn't short on the SMD caps in that area. Also make sure you don't plaster that area with thermal paste and never never use AS5 or anything conductive/capacitive for the thermal paste or you'll quickly write off your board. In all honesty a thermal tape or thin thermal pad will more than suffice.

Damn, machining makes all the difference then, mine is just a hand cut piece of copper layed on top, no mounting or nothing other than the heatsink putty, lol. This is the best I can do, without too much heat...

Current memory, going to work on the timings a bit, but am happy with the speed, and the ratio used. 2.25V D9GMH micron (2x1gb Crucial PC8000, 2x1GB Buffalo PC8000)

Vista 64bit stable with 4GB ram (orthos is just for image have done 12+ hour runs already)

BIOS 0.6, 1.0 and 1.1 tested.

I got two kits of the new Kingston 9600, but they will not run even near to 1200. None of the two Kits. Tried everything with the timings (Auto, all at max, the same that were used here and so on...)

Even a high voltage (up to 2,8 V) didn't help. I've been working more than twelve hours on this "beast"... but i haven't any clue anymore.

Are there any known BIOS issues with some RAM in this way? I know that some were not able to run kits at all, but this strange way, and two kits at the same time?

My fatbodys (did 1170 @ i975X) didn't want to run 1150, too :-/

You know, honestly I'm starting to think that.

I got fed up with my IN9 and went out and bought a BX2 to find out if it was the motherboard holding me back.. (Was having issues getting 3.2 on a E6600 stable)

Now I'm thinking it might be a problem with compatibility with my memory. When working on the IN9, I set my memory at 533 2.0-2.1v (Gskill 8000 HZ Rated 4-4-4-12 2.2)

I hit a brick wall at 3150 no matter what I did could not get the processer orthos stable past that. This is on medium to high end water.

Popped everything in the BX2, Ill be damned Its doing 3.4 @1.4 stable for over 24 hours. Ram is at 900 Mhz with the 4:5 divider.

I really dont want to give up on this IN9 I think it has tons of potential, especially the power regulation.. has to be the best setup I've seen.

Gonna hang onto my IN9, and possibly pick up another processor to play with..

However for my main rig, its going to be the BX2.
