Hey I've been reading through a lot of this post and I was wondering if someone can help me. I have a Gigabyte 965G DS3, E6300, Patriot 2gb 667 RAM, and a 7600GT.

When I start to play games that are pretty graphically demanding, my computer will restart. The temps read normal, so I don't think that could be it.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Suggestion - ditch the DS3

Any time I play games they just lock up after a few minutes.

I already exchanged my ram, so its not that. Just have to get a new board.

I was really considering updating the latest bios, is there anything I should worry about? And ditching the board isn't possible, I don't have a way to.

Nope, bios flashing is relatively straight forward. You can even do it via @bios in windows

Hello all.

Just wanted to bounce this off some of your noodles, since my head and desk are becoming good friends. :brick:

Current system:
GA-965P-DS3
2GB Patriot Ram
e6700 CPU
1900xt vid card
650W Silverstone Power supply

I've had this system up and running now for about 3 months, no issues... until today.

Flashed bios to F6 and rebooted machine... no problems.
Tightened RAM to 4-4-4-12... no problems
Set fsb to 300 .... no problems
Set fsb to 360 ... haven't been able to get the system to boot since.

The voltages were all set to stock. I've cleared the CMOS by the jumper AND pulling the battery for 1, 5 and 10 minutes. Pulled the RAM, swapped PSU... nothing is helping. I get no video but all the lights, fans and hard drives spin. I've tried another Vid card but no change.

I'm thinking the board is dead (why is beyond me since I've gone past an fsb of 360 with older bios's with no issue).

Any ideas or something I'm missing?

I got a e6400 ... the strap screws it up for me at 325 Fsb ... so i had to jump to 400 ... its perfect after 400 ... btw, your ram? 4-4-4-8 works .... with fast memory ... 2.1 v ... im using a Patriot 2GB 5300 ....

(btw meant fast as in the memory enhance)

Somehow, my OS says im limited to 4-4-4-9 ... dunno why

Thought so, just was wondering if there was anything I was missing.
so all the DS3 mods will work for the S3 as well (was kinda confused when I didn't see S3 mod threads, had to check).

Now I just have to wait for ram prices to drop again. They seem to have gone up in the last month or so :stick: . Probably in anticipation of holiday season price drops.

Hello everybody, I need some assistance.

I just bought two of these:

and would like to run them sataII RAID-0. First is this possible? And Second where do I plug them in, and what BIOS settings do I need to change in order to make it work. I just tore down my s939 Ultra-D rig, but this seems a lot more complicated.

And you're on the DS3 board? You'll have to use the Jmicron controller as the DS3 only has the ICH8...not ICH8R. No Matrix Raid for you! It's all in the Giga manual tho. Good luck!

I had a bad experience with a mirror and am actually thinking about snagging a P5B Deluxe because of it.

Hi all DS3 owners. I'm trying to get my system stable @ 425 x 8 = 3400 with the new F7 BIOS. I get 3 hours Orthos Large FFTs with a vcore of 1,46875 then it stops. The only other voltage change is vDIMM @ +0.2. With this setup I get 64-66 coretemp. Considering those temps, i'm not too tempted to raise vCore too much.

So my question is : should I increase vCore again one notch (this is probably what I will do after work) OR increase vMCH and/or vFSB ?

My system is stable @450 x 7 = 3150 with multiples tests (Orthos+Memtest). So I might not have hit a FSB wall (neither memory wall) unless there is a 'strap' change that makes the system more stable @450 vs 425 that i'm not aware of.

Any opinion ?

Edit : Finally I only increased the vCore to 1.475 and now stable > 8 hours @ 3400 MHz with Orthos.

8 . with 9 can run 1M only 434 1.67V on air. hope f6 will make it is more by increasing voltages

Hey man, the only other trick I can think of is a true cold boot after you've disconnected all power for 5-10 min and they reconnected, imediately pushing the reboot button after you power on. But if you've tried the battery and jumper already, it might not work...might have to rma and get them to reflash it.

I've been a long time browser on XS, but this is my first post, so please be gentle :slapass:
I'm going to take the plunge and go Conroe. I'm going to get a DS3 (or S-3 since they are the same except the caps + Price ), and I had a few questions:

1) I see some people are using a Thermalright Ultra-90 or 120. Which way does the fan face when the whole thing is mounted (I really hope it doesn't face down toward the NB, or to the front toward the RAM)?

2) I've seen a few people post that they had this RAM working with this board, but I wanted to double check to make sure no one had issues. It's Kingston HyperX KHX6000D2K2/2G 2GB Kit DDR2-750:

3) I've heard the Northbridge gets really hot. Is there any aftermarket cooler I can put on it? I've got a few Thermalright NB heatsinks (that I used on various Nforce NBs), but the holes look like they are pretty far apart on these 965 boards.

I cannot get my ATAPI devices (especially my NEC-3550A) burning at more than 2x and I can't boot IDEs off PATA cards, just the mobo. I've already tried two kinds of PATA cards, Promise UltraATA 100TX2, and a Rosewill SiI 0608 based card which won't boot at all with devices attached to it.

Anyone else? These are some major problems I'm having.

Guys, I know I've posted this a few times already. But the FAQ does not establish ANYTHING about the Memory Performance Enhance option. I've set it to TURBO on the F8a BIOS, and I believe that it helps with overclocking. My memory, which before was limited to 438 FSB, (Patriot Extreme Performance) is now able to do 450+. Now I know that other people usually have better clocks (I mean ... I couldn't even reach 333 FSB before the strap limit kicked in), but if it is true, then the TURBO setting should be able to let D9 memory go even farther... Test it ... [Can't believe no one figured out what Memory Performance Enhance actually does ... I don't even have an actual clue what it REALLY does]

Take a memset3 screenshot, reboot and set to normal and do again ;)
