I flashed back to 714 bios which worked best for me, loosened my timings from 3 3 3 10 to 4 4 4 12, and I got an extra 60 mhz oc. Now sitting at 3.67Ghz up from 3.61ghz on a e6700. My 1M super pi times are .2 secs faster, and best of all... I can reboot from Windows!!!! I'm positive that this boards memory issues are also causing reboot problems.
I believe the memory and northbridge being so tight are the only real issues with the x975. Bios revisions should fix this. I have the board stable at 415 on my e6400, and it benches much faster than similar systems at the same clock.
I have this board and I flashed bios 7.22 on it. Worked perfect on air,
then I wanted more and I installed my Vapochill LS on it and atm i can get in windows but not in the bios :s. Always a lock up as can be seen on folowing picture http://users.pandora.be/timtitanium/MSI.JPG. It looks like a piece of bios but then its a lockup. I tried several versions and I ran out of thinking and hope :( Anyone who knows if this board has troubles going
subzero?. I windows i have a temp of -20 degrees and works witouth
troubles but I want to oc this pc but thats not possible atm.

I remember reading somewhere in this forum that this board does have a problem with sub zero temps. It might actually be this thread, not sure where though.
Yeah well I can't find anything over coldboot but apparantly
this board has coldboot problem :(. So if anyway knows more
information about this problem or a solution would appreciate
that a lot. I tried basicly all bios versions and always the same
problem. Now i am running on air and I can go into bios without
any problem :(
There is a new 7.24 beta bios out! So far it looks good from what im hearing its giving a good FSB increase. I cant wait to get back to my house and try it out.
Yes could be but i dont think it will solve the coldboot problem :)
I just downloaded the latest official Bios 7.10, it screwed up some of my Windows files, I.E did not work properly, had to reinstall WIN XP all over again, that blew chunks.
That is strange, I've updated my BIOS so many times on this mobo I can do it blindfolded. Only beta 7.19 gave me issues i.e. Would not POST. The rest were fine in terms of POST'ing and starting windows.Quote:

Which I think is because other hidden timings are tightened for performance reasons - so these timings are relaxed .. I say this becuase no matter if I set 4-3-2-12 I still get 4-5-6-12.
Anyway did everyone here realise you need to put your DIMMS in one green and one orange slot? Channel A1 and Channel B1 ??
Being an *experienced* geek I didn't bother with the manual (one expects colour codes to be grouped) anyway I've been running single channel memory!

Would you guys recommend this board for this processor? I'd like to hit ~3.0GHz. Nothing too extreme. I was looking at the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro for cooling. It needs to be stable enough for my wife to use it daily. :)
I'm not even interested in Crossfire or SLI, actually. But I do like the VIIV support (don't laugh, I have my reasons!), and the Dolby Digital Live audio codec. I'll be getting a 7900GS video card.
I would expect that with the X10 multiplier, 3.0GHz will be cake, even with cheap RAM. In fact, do you have any cheap 1GB or 2GB RAM recommendations?
The 965 boards seem to be in a huge state of disarray right now, or else I might be looking at them.
Can anyone else host the 7.24 or 7.25 beta bioses? Jason's link is just erroring out for some reason.
Try again for 7.25 its rehosted... Some of the ungrateful :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:s at MSI forums really pissed me off.

Do the "Windows Restart" issues with this board only occur when you overclock? Or does the machine also crash when you restart at stock clocking?
If it is only with an overclock, how much of an overclock?
With the OCZ no post at all, i was lucky cos i've got a pair of gskill here, if i don't have them couldn't even post.
I had this problem initially once I first got the board up and running: No matter whether I OC'ed or ran at all stock, I'd get the "Windows Restart" problems about 50% of the time i tried to do a restart through Windows. But in the last week or two I haven't had that problem at all. Pretty weird, I can't explain it at all. I have a small OC with my E6400 (@ 2.4 Ghz w/ stock volts) and my ram running underclocked at 1:1 (b/c ram multipliers are still giving me trouble) so it's not a significant OC, but I still haven't seen problems restarting Windows. One less problem to worry about I guess. The only two things I would like to have straightened out are (1) Correct PSU voltage readings and (2) MSI's software reading CPU temp correctly. Other than that, it's been a great time with this board.Quote:

I went for the cheapest ram I could get in the end, just to see what happens, I went with Kingston ECC DDR2 533 Value 1GBx2 ram (with ECC switched off, even though bios has ECC option, the board wont post with ECC enabled!!!! I thought i did have it on before, but nope)....
Got a decent overclock at 380FSB and memory running at 1:1 and 4:5:6:12 timings. works great, stable, but none of the SuperPI tests work, but that doesnt bother me, everything else seems to work and no crashing... strange.
Oh, I'm using 720 bios.
How are you increasing your chipset voltages? I cant find it in bios :(
