is 1009 better then 0903?...seems like people like the 0903 BIOS better at some other forums...any opinions here?
in my BIOS memory configuration settings there is something called "Idle Cycle Limit" and it is set to 16 ...isn't that the same thing as "DRAM Idle Timer" from previous ASUS motherboards?...if so shouldn't that be set to the highest number possible?...in my last motherboard I had that option set to "Infinite"...the BIOS Optimization guide also recommends setting it to Infinite...only thing is that the A8N32 board "Idle Cycle Limit" setting does not have an option to set it at "Infinite"...there are only a series of numbers you can choose from...so should I set this to the highest number option?
hey guys i would like to know how can i do raid 0 with my 2 raptors 74gz at asus a8n32 sli deluxe 1) where i must put the disks and 2) what is the bios settings to do this.
thank you in advance
I just installed 2 x 512mb 7800GTX and have 2gig of ram running on this board with bios 1009.
In bios under system information it is showing 2gig installed but only 1.5gig usable? and in windows under System Properties it says 1.48gig?
WTF is with that!!! :slapass:
Anyone else seeing anything like this.
If memory serves me correctly before I installed the 2 512mb card I think System Info showed 2gig.
It's a Windows 32-bit thing...you won't get that with XP 64-bit or Vista. It has to do with the video ram occupying, the same address space as the MB ram.Quote:

But yours is the first case I've seen of the video RAM eating into space below 2GB. Didn't think that could happen.
Look in the ASUS site under the A8N32 FAQ...it's the first item.
Just out of curiosity, add the /3GB switch to your boot.ini...Widows addresses 4GB of virtual ram...by default it keeps 2GB to itself and releases 2GB for use. The /3GB switch changes that so it will release up to 3GB. Just curious if that will force it to manage the RAM differently and give you back your 2GB.
Microsoft KB article about /3GB
I just used JBOD for a Raptor 74 and a Samsung 200. Used the connectors opposite the space between the gfx. A lot of ppl having trouble with RAID tho, do a search containing keywords SATA, RAID, A8N32.Quote:

I believe lowdog is only running 2GB ram and the board is only detecting 1.5GB? You might have enabled 'memory hole' or something in BIOS, disable that if you're only running 2GB. Other than that, it could be bad memory or something.

And like I said, it normaly keeps 2 GB to itself for OS kernel processes... part of that 2GB Windows uses has always been shared with all the bits and pieces used by the BIOS and add-on cards. These used to be small "bits and pieces" but not any more. If XP doesn't have what it thinks it should have from the upper 2GB because something else has reserved it, in this case it seems to dip down into the lower 2 and grab some.
The /3GB switch tells XP to release up to 3 for apps. At least when those apps (Photoshop for one) are running, it manages with less by butting-out of the 2-3 GB space... which is why I suggested it may help...it should be happy with less and not need to dip down below 2GB...maybe...maybe not.
All the RAM in video cards has always used the 2-4GB address space--we just didn't notice before because only server geeks ever went above 1GB until the past couple of years. Now 2GB+ is becoming more common so we're starting to notice all this memory management fiddly crap...add 1GB total Video ram with 2X 512 cards in SLI--which is also a brand new thing--and you notice it even below the 2GB "safe" area apparently.
XP-64 doesn't have the same 4GB limit. Its limits are 16GB physical and a whole bunch of terrabytes virtual. It's all just transitional stuff before Vista comes out next year. If you can't wait, switch to XP-64.
BTW...what's this memory hole thing in BIOS you speak of? Is that the same old setting that reserved one Megabyte (NOT Gigabyte ) for ISA cards like the Soundblaster live? To that one I have to say "Uhhhhh. NO." :D
Nothing wrong with the memory, it used to show 2gig in system>properties before I wacked in the 2 x 512mb cards. :fact:Quote:

You should check whether everything is OK in BIOS
For example.
In my case my SPD reads 250 (DDR500).
With previous BIOS auto settings used a fixed 200MHz (DDR400) setting for my DIMMS.
1009 BIOS correctly set my memory to DDR500, since I have an E6 dual core CPU that supports this timing.
The problem was that the auto vcore gave 1.6v VDIMM.
My memory has to get 2.8v to work at DDR500.
This made my system unstable on my very first Windows session.
Changing Vdimm to 2.8 corrected the problem.
Another example.
In case of a RAID you still can see your Hard disks and change their settings with 1009 BIOS. The problem is thar 32 bit trasfer rate is set to dissabled by default. I had to change this to enabled manually.
I am not sure if this changed anything though.
Any way 1009 BIOS is much better than any other BIOS.
Use SATA 1 and SATA 2 ports (the upper two slots)Quote:

Make a floppy disk with the latest RAID drivers from Nvidia (just copy the sataraid folder contents C:\NVIDIA\nForceWin2KXP\6.82\IDE\WinXP\sataraid\*. * to A:\)
During Windows installation Press F6 when prompted and install both drivers (there are two drivers)
under the Memory Configuration settings in the BIOS there is an option called "Hardware Memory Hole"...set that to DisabledQuote:

So if you are one that got in on the last batch that hit stores last week you may not need do anything at all, 0903 running well me for me right now.Quote:

Hey guys I am getting about 45C on the NB chipset by Asus pc probe. What are you guys getting. Well this room is pretty hot it is like 80F in here.
CPU is at 47C almost no load
damn i need my LS or WC asap :P
Chipset sounds about right. CPU sounds good, for those room temps. See my sig for my system. As I type this, Chipset is 44C, CPU is 42C, room temps are 24C. Chipset runs hot for some reason.Quote:

What is your ambient room temp and what are your load temps
45C on mb aint bad right, i used to get 51C on the eXpert
Wow that is a very good idea i will do that :) Also I hate the stock hsf it is loud :/Quote:

And the 36C your getting is with air blowing on the heatpipe I'll bet, from proabably your cpu fan.Quote:

Dude, where do you live and can't you open the window? To have your MB still be only 32° your case must be a wind tunnel!Quote:
