Guys, I would not use either the 7.21 or 7.22. Seems MSI is trying to pull a quick one on us by relaxing the memory timings. I've tested the 7.21 bios set at 4-4-3-8 and memset and cpu-z reads 4-5-6-8 and indeed thats what my board is running. Ran 3dmark at those settings then used memset to 4-4-3-8 and ran a much much faster.
Bottom line this board is only worth getting if you have a e6600 or higher. Dam a e6700 at 400x10 seems very tempting.
First post on these boards, so please forgive me for any faux pas.
I just got one of these boards, with the 7.0 stock bios, 2G of G.Skill 1GB memory, an E6600, and a Saphire x1900xtx. I've got an old IDE drive with Windows XPsp2 installed in it, just to have a boot drive (waiting for an SATA drive to arrive to do a fresh OS install).
I post just fine, but when windows starts, the system reboots as soon as windows starts to load (the ASCII progress bar happens, then the system resets). I've tried manually setting the memory to 4-4-4-12 @2.1 volts, since the board tries to under volt the memory.
Is there something obvious that I am just not doing correctly? I have a 450watt power supply, which (at least according to the manuals) should be enough juice for the system, but I'm at a loss. Would the fact that the old drive already has a windows installation (from an Athlon system) be a problem?
Any help would really be greatly appreciated.

Probably your IDE mode is set wrong. You'll have all sorts of problems though with an install of windows that was based on a different system .. I won't recommend it.Quote:

OK, if you have NOT re-installed windows (that's how I read it) then Windows will NOT start up!!! Windows is installed for an Athlon based mobo (i.e. Windows drivers are for Athlon)Quote:

Athlon Vs Intel drivers are different. Reinstall Windows mate.

I am looking for some honest opinions here. I thought this would be the best thread to ask.
I am getting a free XE6800 from my work tomorrow and I am looking for a new board and ram to use with it.
I want to know if you guys using the MSI board recommend it. I am really looking for stability FIRST (no major set up problems, not booting issues, no BSODs) and slight over clocking (333 FSB).
I really like the price and features of this board, and from what it sounds like it is very fast clock for clock. But it seems like it has its problems (rebooting issues, memory problems, IDE problems). Do the problems show up at standard speeds or only with high FSB OC?
I just want to know from the guys dealing with it everyday if I should get one. Otherwise I am going to pick up a P5B Deluxe/wifi (more expensive, one IDE, no dual graphics).

Oh by the way I am going to be using the Patriot 2gb 667 44412 RAM that people have been getting good OC with for the price (Im not made of money) .
I haven't had a problem in terms of stability. Only thing that has been a problem is my ipod freezes the computer, but probably a software issue. Beyond that despite bios recognizing ram as 667 I haven't had the problems. Using 7.1 official. Although I'm sure if I tried to push my oc further it would be an issue. This OC is 24/7 stable though.

Here is the deal:
1. If you already have good discrete sound, don't get this board. If you don't then the onboard sound is quite good and a large plus for it IMO.
2. If you need Wifi and dont already have a discrete card dont get this board. The WiFi on the Asus is a large plus for it IMO.
2. FSB 333 will be absolutely no problem on either board
3. Kiss goodbye to windows restart. If you think this is going to be a big issue for you .. don't get this board.
4. The IDE, SATA etc issues have been AFAIK mostly user errors .. if you plan on using RAID then research more carefully. If not, you should be fine with either.
5. You've already got a 6800 (whimpers) for free. So that part of your rig wont need to be upgraded for a while. The addition of Xfire would give you an option for upgrading your graphics at some point in the future but it would require you either owning or buying a X1900XT(256/512) now (or going hacked SLI drivers) .. can you afford this? How important is gaming to you?
6. One IDE may or may not be a problem .. your hard drive should be SATA .. c'mon they're cheap as skittles now .. so you only need IDE for your optical drives and unless you have a serious addiction to burning pirated movies 2 should be more than enough
What's the best price you can get on both boards? I get the Asus coming out about %20 more than the MSI .. remember that'll buy you a bit more grunt in your graphics budget which would make the biggest difference in gaming.

I have a MSI 975x Platinum new in box for sale. I'm not going to be able to afford the c2d I wanted, and I have SLI that I cannot part with. So I have a brand new mobo sitting around. The box has been opened and inspected for the version model of the mobo (it is the newest revision 2.1), and to see if any CPU pins were bent (they aren't, my first one came with the cap off and bent pins, so I RMA'd it to newegg and got a new one).
Its listed at $175 + $6 at newegg. I'll do $160 shipped.
Hey everyone, I posted this question a while back and I didn't get an answer, so I'll try again.
I just got my MSI board back from RMA, hooked everything up, and I get the same problem i had before: My WD Caviar SE HD is running in UDMA Mode 5 instead of SATA-II. I've tried many different things to get it to work but without any success. I've been in the "SATA Devices Configuration" section of the BIOS and have tried Enhanced Mode and SATA Only for "On-Ship Serial ATA", with neither fixing the problem. I tried IDE and AHCI for "SATA Mode" with neither helping (AHCI never let me boot into Windows). For Enhanced Mode I tried forcing GEN II but it didn't work. I can't think of anything else that can help me out here. The Serial ATA controller is installed but the HD still runs off IDE. I also tried unplugging the DVD Burner (which is IDE) and left the HD plugged in alone, but this didn't work.
Does anyone have any tips on how I can fix this problem? I'd be forever grateful. I've tried googling for help but never got any clear-cut information to help me out. Is there something in the BIOS that I'm missing? BTW, I'm using official 7.1 BIOS off the MSI website.

My drive only runs at UDMA 5 too :(. AHCI wont let me boot and it seems i have the exact same sympthoms as you Insomniac.
Just flashed with 7.1 official and i managed to do a sub 18 sec run in 1M S-PI and that kind of compansates my SATA-II issues for the moment :).

Might go past 400 with this BIOS but i'm to lazy to try it out right now besides i still use stock cooling which makes my CPU's run quite hot so i dare not raise VCore any more. I'm very happy with my current sys. though and i can live with the reboot issues.
I looked into this, haven't actualy done it. First I believe you must install the driver for ICH8R, this can be found on the Utility disk MSI provides. There is also a readme there that explains it. You need to do it on a fresh install or with the F6 option. Then you need to install the Intel Matrix storage manager, which is also on the disk.

I get that same message, I think it's because your the drivers aren't installed.
Try installing the drivers first. This is where I get confused:

If the only options in the BIOS are IDE, AHCI, and RAID, I will just buy another raptor and install RAID. BTW there is a thread dedicated to this at MSI Forums with no resolution yet.

I just installed the 7.22 bios, and I seem to be getting the same problem that some other users here is getting. When I tried to set the ram to 5-5-5-15, it ended up 5-5-6-15. A bit annoying. Anybody know the solution, or whats up with these new bioses from MSI?
Currently I am stability testing at
3428 @ 1.51v
and 5-5-6-15 @ 380.

Are these chips good enough to be configuered with 4.5.4.15 up to 400mhz fsb on the e6600?
Hey, do you guys know what the default CPU voltage is on this board? I know the lowest CPU voltage is 1.21 V when I go to the Cell Menu, but is this the default voltage as well? I ask this because I manually set the voltage to 1.21 and I think the temp dropped 2-3 C. And if 1.21 V is not the default voltage, is it still safe to run at this value?
It's fine to run it under stock voltage. Just make sure it's stable :).
Yeah, I figured it would be fine if it's stable, I just wasn't sure if 1.21 V was the stock voltage. Does anyone know what stock voltage is? Overall I've dropped about 5 C on idle, haven't tested on load yet. CoreTemp now reports about 35 C, SpeedFan reports 28 C, and MSI's software reports 178 C (which I'll pretty much disregard :D)Quote:

I just got this motherboard back from RMA. They sent me a brand new board, I can't get it to run at 400 FSB at all where as my old one could :( using the official 7.1 bios.
