Still working on lowering volts for my 4200 everyday frequency, was very surprised that I managed to boot at this

Never tested 8.5 multi before but testing with OC Nub pushed me to do it lol, seems to like it needed more volts on the MCH and vdimm but this is my first attempt

have booted up to 4550, but not able to do more than 1 run intel burn. At settings above I can run prime 95 overnight at temps in low to mid 60s, 50 runs of intelburn at temps in high 70s to low 80s. NB run about 3 degrees hotter under load. 4300 is rock solid stable for everything- stress test, benchmarking, gaming, multitasking, etc. But I want more!! Am I maxed out due to temps?
I have tried literally hundreds of combination and logged results to try and find a trend. I need some guidance on how to slowly move the clock up to at least 4500-if it is possible on air that is....
thanks all

tried your settings, hoss- and it wont even post!
messed around with it some and found that the advanced mem settings were the biggest holdup. it also seems my processor likes less volts but more reference.
too late, will try again tomorrow...
thx
Thanks. Ive had it for a couple months now, just havent bothered to play with it much other than some air max clock runs.
everest scores for 469*9.5 1250 PL7 on Extreme are 10441R, 9955W, 10305C and 47.1L
turbo never seemed to make a difference for me but extreme surely does

Nice Score OC Nub
But Me With Q9550 @4300Mhz Can Got 6500 CPU Score Why Ur Quad Can give Like Me @4600Mhz?
I Tested Yesterday With 4330Mhz Just CPU Test Alone And Got 6900 Scores
But It's Not Stable My Mobo Is Not Well For Quad
Thanks Jor, This card clocks well. In certain benchmarks it destroyed my 4890 even at 1000mhz core. In Furmark bench the 4890 wins hands down. In game though they are pretty evenly matched.
Thanks Vivid: Hoss is correct, in XP the score is much higher than in Windows7. I don't have XP installed to run ATM but Sergio got around 2k higher using XP vs 7.
Ran these with the same setup, q9650 4.25ghz. 1st one hd4890 2nd gtx280.

Nice score Martin.
OC Nub, was your memory set to 1:1 for those 3D06 runs? I was thinking that cpu score does seem a little low for 4.6, just wondering if memory would be causing it. I ran a couple runs at 4.45 1250 and am getting in the mid 6800s with win7. To bad my 4870 wont put up a good score though.

WOW . Excellent score Sergio!!!
[QUOTE=Hoss331;3900631]OC Nub, was your memory set to 1:1 for those 3D06 runs? I was thinking that cpu score does seem a little low for 4.6, just wondering if memory would be causing it. Yes I was using 200d. I couldn't get stable at 1200mhz. Trying the OCZ Platinum 1.8v now, working on 1200 now to see if it brings the score up.
Was able to get my mem to run 1200mhz but using the 250a-4:5, not 240b-5:6 divider. That limits my oc to 4.32ghz. Ran 06 again today in Windows 7 using my HIS cards.
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/8...0mem432ghz.jpg
I made great progress after properly tuning the CPU GTLs...now happily priming away at 4300MHz with 1.375 in BIOS. HOWEVER... about 20 mins into prime my cores suddenly shot up to 80C+ doing 8k FFTs - beforehand they had been sitting in the high 60s/low 70s, so it was a huge jump.
My Zalman 9700 has served me well but perhaps now is a good time to make it redundant... I really need to shave a good 10C off these load temps, and I'm honestly not sure if there is a cooler that can outperform the 9700 by that margin. Thinking about getting Megahalems...
Well, doesn't look like I will get my CPU score up in 7 64bit or maybe my CPU is a dud. Either way it runs great and oc's well for me. Ran one last time in 7 using an 8.5 multi and 1:1-200d on the mem. I don't have any 2x2gb kits that will allow for a 5:6 devider over 1200mhz. Still pretty happy with my overall score.
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/7628/06520.jpg
I highly doubt the cpu is a dud, either way its still a nice overall score. What were the clocks on the 4890 for those runs?
Thanks Hoss, I was using 960 core clocks. Went and got the advanced version of 06 to just test CPU to see if I could get it to score higher. I think the divider on the mem is killing my score but IDK . I think in XP I could easily break 26k, need to install it and see.
I need to look at your sub timings for the blades and see if anything will help get this mem any higher.
Thank you Sergio.
Out of desperation I put a set of 2x1gb Reapers in an booted fine at 1250mhz 250A. Will test them tonight and see how high I can go in a fresh install of 32bit vista.
I lowered vcore in BIOS to 1.362 and temps are lower this time, 78C max before I stopped prime - last time it was 82C.
Very happy to be priming at 4300 and it looks like 1.36v will do (maybe less, fingers crossed) but I'm looking at about £60 of cooling power to make this OC stable.
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/m...95overtemp.png
Yeah mate I was going to get a Megahalems but I found a TRUE Black for £38, total bargain. Just need to decide on a fan then place my order, will have it on Tuesday and I can try 4.3GHz again without starting a fire in my case. :D
Silverstone FM122 is what I'm gonna go for; it's only 32mm deep but does 110CFM at full speed  unlike other fans in that price bracket it comes with a fan controller so I'm very taken with it. :yepp: Still haven't decided whether or not to lap/washer mod the TRUE...
I hope you like your fans loud because the FM122 is LOUD, I have one. It does push alot of air but supposedly not what its rated at and the controller is pretty cheap.
Check out the temps then decide Lenny. For me it evened out the temps.

Grab one and controll it with a rehobus or some other controller it has the best static pressure you can find, have 3 on my rad at 6,5volts
Cheers
Sergio
OC Nub, thats not a before and after with your water setup is it?
Hoss: No that was before and after lapping with my True. Much cooler now.
I got those 1.8v OCZ's to boot at 1200mhz+ using the 250a , but need to work on getting them stable. Then tried the Reapers and they boot up easy at 1250mhz 250A PL8 turbo but again not stable yet. Neither set will do 240b pl8 1200mhz, the reapers are ddr2 1200 lol.
Oh ok, good deal  What settings, voltages are you using for the blades? Turbo never seemed to make a difference over standard for me, same benches and everest scores. Extreme is the only one that seems to make a difference but Ive only been able to use it on the 3:4 2.66D strap, other than some stock settings. Extreme lowered my latency 2.0+ns and around 200mbs higher reads.
At least washer mod the TRUE, but lapping + washer mod greatly improves the cooler. Washer mod takes no longer to do than a normal installation though, so no reason not to :)
I have been running at 500x8.5, need 1250mhz for that with the 250a-4:5 divider. Have gone as high as 1.9vdimm and 1.50v MCH, trfc 68 but still cant get stable. Have had better luck using the Reapers but its only a 2x1gb kit. Have you had any luck with 240b? I cannot get into windows at 1200mhz 240b even with PL9.
2.40B has had some issues for me with all my ram sets, but only at certain fsb with certain mch voltages and even then it depends on if im using the yellow slots or the red slots. With my blades 2.40B wont boot with mch higher than 1.36 when fsb is about 480 or less when the ram in the yellow slots. For some reason if the ram is in the red slots it will allow me to boot up with about 0.02-0.04 more mch. As I move up to 500fsb I can boot up with more mch and have no problems with 1200 on 2.40B. These boards seem to undervolt vdimm so check your actual vdimm for me. Boot up at a stable ram speed with 1.90 vdimm in bios, run prime to load it and check what everest displays for vdimm. Use ET6 to bump the voltage to the 1.92 setting then the 1.94 setting and check each in everest. On my setup 1.90 in bios/et6 only loads to 1.87 in everest, 1.94 only loads to 1.89-1.90 in everest, what 1.92bios would be. 1.92bios/et6 will not work for me and shows no change in actual vdimm. If I try to boot 1.92 it will come up as 1.90 in et6 and if I try to set it in et6 it keeps reverting back to the 1.90 setting. Your using a different bios so yours may not act like this but since 1.92 is borked on my board I use the 1.94 bios setting for the 1250 runs and 1.82 bios (which loads to 1.80 in everset) for the 1200 runs. If you want to move the ram over to the red slots and try to boot 1200 2.40B at 5-5-5-18 with 1.38mch, 50 mch skew, 1.94 bios vdimm, and sub timings on auto.
example vdimm difference

Im using a carefully lapped true, with sythe ultra kaze 2000rpm in push/pull configuration. I've lapped the IHS as well, use washers to add mounting pressure and at the moment use Artic Silver 5 paste. Overclocked at 4300mhz, I am running low 60's while running prime95 on small fft. For me, at this clock the true does the job. To get any higher overclocks I'm gonna have to get more aggresive with the cooling I suspect...
Yeah I noticed it is loud, but only at 2400rpm - I won't likely use full speed other than when priming, and stats show approximately 20db at low speed which is the same as my 9700, inaudible from outside a closed case. Perhaps you can verify this? Also what size is the controller? :yepp:
The TRUE and FM122 should arrive tomorrow, and I've bought a lapping kit as well so she'll get a good lap before installation. As for TIM I'll probably use my STG-1 paste as I have tons of it and it's probably better than Thermalright's stuff.
Your vcore is a little lower than mine but still, that's very impressive, fully 20C cooler than what I'm getting with my Zalman. Looks very proimising... :DQuote:

TooFastForYa: set the Static tRead value to 9 using 200d. See how that does, also set MCH/DRAM Reference, DRAM Termination, and Channel A&B ref's to auto. Try 5 5 5 15 also if it still doesn't fly. Maybe a bump in MCH voltage but shouldnt need it for 900. If that passes then work on lowering your vcore. May not need that much for 4.05ghz. You can just set the MCH Frequency latch to auto, then try the 240b-5:6 divider and see how that does also but with 240b try setting Static tRead Value (performance lvl) to 8..
