Hahahah Get 'em Kondik!
Welcome to all the newcomers. It can be a real test of your technical skills to get these clients up and keep 'em tweaked to their highest output. But hey, if it was easy, it wouldn't be Xtreme!

Welcome guys!
Umm, did anyone hear by chance that SP2 for Vista somehow isn't really working with VMWare server? I needed to reinstall since I was still running on my install which I used for overclocking (buggy, VM's started crapping out after 3 days after I put in the 295). So, I reinstalled and patched it up to SP2, got everything running again but now the load for 4 VM's is nailed to 100% on 7 threads (where it was fluctuating before) and I'm getting 2000PPD less at the same time. What the hell could that be?
Hmmm, maybe try backing out SP2? I know that's a pain in the flesh.
Yep, it's a pain indeed. Maybe I'll just get rid of Vista, SC2 and Diablo 3 aren't going to be released anytime soon anyway so there's no need for a gaming system. ~_~;
I figure this doesn't need a new thread, so I'll put it here...
Did anyone figure out the squealy graphics cards thing? I just got a GTX260 that squeals, I don't want to return it, so can I just put some superglue on the coils?
On another note my PSU only had one 6pin connector, and it was on the same rail as the 4pin HDD connectors, so an adapter from those was out of the question. The only thing on the other rail was the 4 pin CPU connector, on a 16 amp rail! Shows where the engineering money went on that one! So I made a 4pin HDD connector to 4pin CPU connector adapter and a 4pin CPU connector to a 6pin GFX card connector adapter, used the "main" rail for the CPU connector, as I have a pretty wimpy CPU in there, and the original 4pin CPU connector with it's full 16 amps behind it for the other connector on the video card.
Squealing??? I read that was a caps thing and that some sort of silicone mastic helps
In view of the fact that a 6 pin connector has a design rating of around 75 watts (6.25 amps) your mod should be solid
But from what I remember ATI cards don't fold as well.
I'll check both, though it seems less likely that a capacitor would vibrate unless something was wrong with it and the oil in it was boiling or something...
With the wattage I pretty much just guessed it would be fine, what with the huge amperage some CPUs draw, and I always see 4 pin to 8 pin adapters, so I figure the molex minifit is a pretty good plug.
I've had both ATI and nvidia cards squeal at times.
I've already either been deafened in that frequency, or I've started ignoring it.
Thanks for the help, but it would seem to have gone away on it's own...
You will probably find that it is more pronounced with some WU's than others...mine are not too noisey but when I get the on-off (temp restricting??) type wu's it is more noticeable
Okay, pulled it apart and put some superglue on the chokes and some rectangular blocky things that looked like they mighta been able to vibrate and it didn't go away, got lower in pitch though so my headache went away...
I'm amazed that the only thing they have cooling the memory is the panel on the back of the cooler, that is why it is always so hot. I'm gonna put a fan on it as soon as I figure out how to mount it...
zipties!
My old 285 went EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE all day long folding or not, i RMAed is, and my new 285 still does it, but only when folding, and its very quit and not noticable. It also goes EEE...EEEE...EEEE...EEE, and the EEEing gets louder when it finishes a work unit for some reason. So much power surging through the cards stuff just starts rattlin in there...if it gets too bad, dump clear nailpolish on the capacitors to keep them put
Hello everyone. Am new here on the forums. I'll be folding on a 260 - I realize it is not much but I figure every bit helps. Hopefully I wont have too many stupid / annoying questions for you guys :D
edit: Yeah, I've been lurking for a bit. Figured it was time to make a first post.
:welcome: Thanks for helping!
I have 3 GTX 260s. 2 on GPUGrid and one here. Some 260s do have problems so if things go wrong or you have problems lets us know. We will help however we can. When a 260 works ok it does pretty good on PPD.
There are no stupid questions!
Wow, it's quiet in here.. compared to WCG anyway :D
Anyway, I just put 3 cards on FAH (2x GTX 280, 1x 8800 GTS G80).
Not sure how long I can run them due to elec costs getting out of hand and FAH still being the PITA that it is especially with Multi GPU setups (I really need some of those dummy plugs..)
But every day counts right :)
Yep every day helps :)
Dummy plugs are needed for Vista/7 only right? I've run two cards in XP without too much hassle. Just it got the card ID's backwards for some reason.
Tell me, can't make that Dual GPU on one PCB basterd to work in F@H , costed me precious lifetime, some hair here and there ... I'll look like Movieman soon :yepp:
Still no Go, and this retarded piece of diamond calling itself EVGA x58 3 SLI, with amazing everything just the Ultraoverheating VRM's isn't making me happy doubletime.
One day I promise I'll buy a PC that won't piss me off and will Fold like no other.
MAC ? :p:
Well.. I plugged in 2 connectors of my 4-way KVM to the rig housing the dual GTX 280's, extended desktop, and set them up using mikeb12's incredibly easy & painless pre-set method. :)
Started running fine, on the 2nd pair of WUs now... around 17k from that machine.
I also pulled the connector to the 2nd card and it didn't stop folding.. so I better not touch it :D
That's why you have 42 score for today :p: ?
I don't want your VGA then :hehe:
I'll have to figure it out somehow, but now I'm thinking about going dual i7 MOBO for WCG :sofa:
Huh? I just started 5 hours ago, doesn't show on teh stats yet :p:
