Nice TMF! I am testing out a chip under phase right now and its priming at 3.2ghz at 1.48v. DogX2 sent it to me and I will max it out for him. But your 3.1ghz on air is a pretty site!:)Quote:

Any one know what happened to the AMD Opteron Socket 939/940 * Stepping thread at forumdeluxx.de. I works only off and on and it was a very good stepping thread.
Ok, can you please tell me which kind of memory would be the best one??? (name, model) and would ddr or ddr2 be better for overclocking that opteron. And would the
CAB2E 0540 be any good for overclocking as the price on the CABYE 0540 is more than 300 USD. And also would opt 144 be any good and which model???

I like the idea of a dual core, but I can't find any benches or anything to compare the 170-series with other AMD (and, for a laugh, Intel) options. How do they rate in comparison to, say, the other contenders like the 4400+, X2 4400+, FX-57, etc. I would really appreciate any input or links anyone can dig up.

If you can use most wanted for stability than what happens to me ? I can game a few hours, never tested more :) but prime blend failes instantly with a reboot and/or bsod.
i have a weird problem. i can run 300 x 9 at 1.3v with memory at 1:1. Also, i can run 290 x 10 at 1.344v (cpu-z) for some time, sometimes reboots (messing around with mem. timings should fix this). BUT, when i trie to boot up / prime at 280 x 10, my system boots to windows, then EITHER reboots instantly, OR primes for a couple of minutes, than reboots.
I'm using bios 623-3 and have all options set to defaults, except 2.5-4-3-7. Could Max. Async or Read Preamble settings cause this? (Because they're set to AUTO). Also, could it be that the DFI SLI-DR uses different settings for let's say 250-290FSB and 290+ when set to AUTO? Should i set them manually?
tnx!

Please tell me if there are any absolutelly bad overclocking Opterons 146, as I can buy one for 240 USD (incl Shipping) but unknown week of production/stepping etc
please advise me should i go for it,
Thanks
if its a 0542 youll see about 2.8ghz were a 0540 will do 3ghz+, theres also a 0543 & 0544 out there now but havnt seen any results yet
You got a couple of those 0542 146s didnt you tatts? Just for reference, could you list each one and what you got with it? :DQuote:

will post results soon.
I've just received a 146 CABYE 0540APMW today. I will post results here as soon as possible, but I have to solve a problem with RAM first that makes the mobo refusing to boot anymore (it seems to be a frequent matter with DFI nF4 Ult.-D).
Anyway, before suffering of RAM problem, I was unable to post @ 3GHz, 1.6V under water... not very promising chip :(
Can you advise me which memory to use For OC these opterons, as I have a choise and a good budget, but which type and make of memory would be best??? As i have no idea
Thx
I think it depends more on your motherboard than your processor (Opteron or another one). ;)Quote:

Well, it's not a bad waterblock seating. Dropping to 2.9GHz/1.5V drops load temp to 50C. Still too high, but damn that's a huge temp differential.

well, i think i'm gonna ask this again:
i have a very strange problem. My opty 146 is absolutely stable @ 300 x 9 @ 1.3v. This with bios 623-3, memory at 1:1 and everything set to default except 2.5-4-3-7. Now, when i want to test at 270 x 10, no matter what voltage i use, i get a BSOD within a few minutes. How on earth could this be possible? I mean if my mem can do 300 1:1, 270 should be a breeze, isn't it? Also, at 280x10 or 290x10 it's same problem: BSOD's allover the place. Please help!
What do you define as stable for the 300x9?Quote:

There's something wrong here, i know my mem can do up to 310 1:1 (G.Skill PC4400LE TCCD).
run memtest86 test 5 and 8 with both (300 and 270). change your timings to 2.5-3-3-7@270mhz and drive strength options. Also do not increase your chipset voltage (LDT voltage) this can make your memory very unstable. Strange indeed. what is your vdimm? for 300 and 270?Quote:

Dont have a problem hitting 2900Mhz with stock vcore, though there is a jump to hit 3Ghz...Well im not sure what it is but i think im having heat related issues as im on AIR.

Also ran stressspu for almost 24Hrs and just completed burning with cpuburnK7 for 8 hrs (290HTT*10)
Nice Chip r2 and what are your Loadtemps on Air and your Ambient Temp?
amp
MY cabne 0530 apmw is rediculously hot too. It is hotter than all the other cabne's on here. Mine idles at 45c and loads at 56c without the IHS and with an aquagate mini.....not the best water cooling by far, but better than air no doubt. It used to get up to over 60c with the zalman 7700cu, but I would stop running it. This is at 3.0g with 1.5v.
I have reset the block and as5 several different times, but it is still a devilishly hot ass chip.
Thanks :)Quote:

Load Temp: At the clocks i posted it hits 39c running super_pi 32Mb, 40-41c Stresscpu and 42-43c running cpuburnK7. This is according to Probe 2 and Speedfan at stock vcore.
But i think the temp readings are wrong! Prob should add 8-15c...(assuming)
People have been reporting that their DFI Expert boards (In OCAU and i4memory forums) are also have wrong readings with Opterons, some say you should add 15-20c.
i ran memtest86 yesterday, no errors. LDT & chipset voltage @ default. vDimm = 2.7v, any higher and memtest starts to give errors. Could my memory be broken? Or is undervolting (running 2700 @ 1.3v for a long time) damaging my cpu?Quote:
