Nope, that is a bogus reading. I use 1.30v [on sig ;)]. For some reason CPU-Z doesn't work right when used on a BlackOps. We rely on the Aegis panel, which is why I apologized for not showing it since I knew it was going to confuse people a bit.

I had this too with the MARS on the beta bios... really weird issue, only AEGIS panel gave the correct speed yet strange multies and FSB speed...all reaout programs gave wrong CPU speed indications here
Danmoody how are ya? didnt see ya at microcenter yesterday..lol
ok guys i got a E8400 OC'd to 3.6ghz my mobo is a GA-P35-DS3R. with F11 bios. outside of a slight increase to my vcore and takeing my mem(crucial ballistix ddr2 800) up to+.04
i havent done much more t oget to 3.6ghz. what might i need to do to get it up to the 3.8-4.0 range with air cooling or is 3.6ghz where im stuck at?
this is my very first build, i dont know a whole lot about it but i am learning..lol
ive noticed alot of people talking about the batch numbers for the CPU's is there a better batch than another? or a worse batch that just wont preform like it should???
i just looked at my batch number for my E8400. it is Q807A190
good bad average????
this is actually my second E8400 i RMA'd the first one i couldnt get it to OC past 3.4ghz, but hte problem i had was my crappy mem. but intel rma'd me a new cpu so i got this one directly from intel. ive had it up to 3.91 once ran for 30+ mins then crashed.
im runnning now at 3.6 with my vcore barely above the minimum volts 1.250v. so if i took up the vcore to say 1.355 i should be able to get 3.8-3.9ghz would i need to change anything else? to be honest i think my mobo isnt 100% compatible with the E8400. i have the GA-P35-DS3R. revision 2.0 i also think my mem might be holding me back some also.crucial ballistix ddr2 800 pc6400(2-1gb sticks double sided 16chip) not sure how much past 800mhz they will run.
Well, I don't know too much about that board, but you might want to check for a bios update. That might help with chip compatibility. Depending on the exact batch and the cooling, a lot of the Q807A batch chips are hitting 4.0GHz on nice low volts.

Got my P5Q deluxe today and an E8400 Q815A417, not many people with this batch but what results there are dont look too bad. Has anyone else got any experience with batch Q815A?
Only problem is the shop forget to send me my new cpu cooler and cant really be bothered to use the stock one so have to wait for that to come... so annoying!!
Also got an E8400 815 on the way , early results showed 4.3Ghz at 1.36 vcore so hoping to get sub 1.28 on 4ghz... will have the CPU on monday... keep ya guys posted...
Dunno I had an 816A044 too don't recall it being a special stepping... though I didn't look especially for it neither... willl see on monday mate...
U're right...the FSB at 4GHZ is 445...the memory are running at 1:1 / 900MHZ ...i put 5-5-5-15/5-5-5-18...nothing ...the same error in orthos...i know that 1.56 is enougt for 445FSB...now the NB is 1.4 because the CPU is running on auto...x9 / 400/ 3,6GHZ...the seems the problem to be....a lot of pros here...can someone help me...?...Telo i thank you...think something out :D...found the problem :)...i post again for all the people tommorow to see my problem...at the end of julie or the middle i buy a 2x1 kit CL5 1066...but look at my problem...probably you can help me...
First did you update to the latest bios ?
You tell us 1.33Vcore for 4ghz : is that in windows (cpu-z) or set in bios ? it's not because it boots in windows that it's enough for full load operation...
For the ram : did you disable transaction booster and static read control ? Ram voltage at 2.1 ?
Disabled CPU and PCI spread spectrum ?
For 2gb with P35 based mobo's 1.4NB is way than more enough for 450FSB, this is not a Foxconn Black ops mobo... no need to push voltages so high...
I got a picture from one of my friend and he told me that is Q815A. I don't know it is ture or not
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...4/E8400E0A.png
Yes, i have the latest bios...
The Vcore is 1.33 in bios...at load is 1.29 ...something like that...
I don't disable the transaction booster and static read control...
I don't disable the CPU and PCI spread spectrum...
:D:D:D...I try 4GHZ now...i post in 20-30 minutes if the options that you gived my are good...thaks man !...sry for my english again...:)
I tested u're settings...it didden't work ...
TRANSACTION BOOSTER DISABLE...i saw there is a value bettwen 0-3...i tried all...same blue screen on loadind end blue screen on log in...
STATIC READ CONTROL DISABLE ...like u say...i tried to DISABLE DYNAMIC CONTROL ...same errors...blue screen's...freezing image...
CPU & PCI SPECTRUM DISABLE
With those settings my pc si not stable...freezing image...blue screen....but there is a problem...now i can't load windows with my old setting....
x9
450 FSB
DDR 900MHZ 5-5-5-15
Vcore 1.3375
PCI 100
DRAM Voltaje 2.1
NB 1.4
With those setting 3,4 day ago i can run windows with no problem...i can use IE, Firefox...but the pc was not stable...now with the same setting i can't load windows...wtf ? :)....
There are a lot of setting in bios...i don't know verry good to adjust them...my old E4500 i oc'ed alone...x8 / 400FSB / NB 1.5 / PCI 100 / Dram V 2.1...with those setting my pc run verry well...
helppp :P
got today a E8400 Q816A322 and it seems to be a good clocker :)

wooo hooo fire that puppy up !!
well i hope i can join the club now. been tweaking my E8400 for the first time and trying to get it to 4.0ghz. kinda nervious about doing it .this is my first and only build so far and im still learning. but this is what igot right now. i had to adjust my vcore a few times to get it here. it is running OCCT right now and all is fine so far. also ran sandra burnin and passed with flying colors.

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ndraburnin.png
OCCT is still running has about 22 mins till finished. then im gonna fire up Orthos and get it going good there.
i Upped my vcore up to 1.3685v to finally get it stable(so far)
upped my MCH +.1
upped my FSB +.1
i was worried about my mem not handleing the 450mhz so i droped it to 445mhz. all is well and im running my mem at 4-4-4-12 2t 1:1 ratio.
guess i need to change my sig now..lol
Drop multi to 8x plz...try again... Could be windows is corrupted due to the numerous lockups...
If you look in the P5KC thread some users think the 2 latest biosses were a complete waste maybe good idea to flash one or 2 versions back...to 0903 then
Bummer the settings didn't work
...hmmm...ok...i use the 8x multi...if this settings are not working i try to flash the bios...i find the bios flash on www.asus.com ?...thanks...i come back in 2 or 3 hours from now ...cya. :D
Nice! i guess lotsa people still buying the E8400 when E7200 is best bang for money now lol!
There are golden cpu's in each price range... most prefer (like me) the bigger cache...
@leeghoofd
how does one get on the wolfdales OC list?lol
I have a Q807 E8500 with Asus Rampage Formula and 4GB G Skill DDR2-1066.
Currently I am trying to push the E8500 to 4.2GHz with:
443MHz*9.5 with memory running DDR2-1064
Vcore=1.39V w/o Load Line Calibration (LLC) or 1.36V with LLC (Bios)
VTT (FSB Thermination Voltage) = 1.36 (Bios)
VPLL = 1.6V
NB = 1.61V
Everything are stable (benchmarks) but I am not too happy about the high NB voltage that leads to high NB temperature (~57 deg.).
Surprisingly, the most difficult part of OC'ing my system is to get stable windows boot up and restoring from hibernation. I use hibernation in day-to-day basis to cut down the Windows boot time (30 sec vs 5 min). I found that to get stable restore from hibernation, I need to have the above configuration (e.g. high NB voltage). (My test routine is 1) Restore/start my PC from hibernation 2) Run Super Pi 1M.) Without considering hibernation, I can drop every voltage by several notches and not affecting stability.
Another issue is Window boot up stability. I observed that sometimes my machine needs 2 boots to start with the first one crash right before the Windows desktop shows up.
Anyone has some insight about these symptoms? Does any one use hibernation?
@LeegHoofd i cannot install the latest bios flash because i need Asus DOS utility or something like that...i don t find the stupid program...:(
whats with this Wafer number and where can I find it ( on the cpu itself or on the box). And what is the assumption to be better the lower the number or the higher or there is no correlation?
Thanks for your suggestion. I have 2x2gb. I tested them using Memtest86+ @ DDR2-1064 and it passed (~3 hours).
I have been trying to reduce NB and PLL voltages. However, in order to have stable hibernation restoring, this is the voltage it needs. I wonder if there are any other parameters (like CPU/NB GTL Ref Voltage?) can be adjusted to counter the high NB voltage.
The failure mode of after hibernation re-boot looks like this: Right after system restore->Super Pi->Select 1M->Run->Crash and Reboot immediately.
Does this scenario tell me something?

http://www.home.no/rogerh99/P5KPremi...Prime@1,35.jpg
This one seems far more promising than 2 former Q802 - which barely broke 4G @ +1.4V.
Further testing in progress ;)
You mean letting Prime run for 1 hour or more?
I don't belive much in the 'chip-degradation' theory. Maybe over 1.45V we may have a problem with degradation - in the long term. But this is still to be seen.

Go to Asus downloads, select your board type then go to BIOS Utilitys & download it.

@ Leeghoofd
If I show you a screenshot with Orthos running for 1hr+, a SuperPI 32M completion, Aegis Panel [BlackOps user here] showing actual voltage, and CPU-Z showing everything else you might need, would that get me on the spreadsheet?
Pretty decent chip this Q815A417:

Not too bad volts for 4ghz stable on air. Still tweaking for 24\7 setup. So many options on these P5Q mobo's!
MUMID
very nice there. love your temps too. i just dont know how you guys get these low temps. with mine at 4.05ghz under load im as high as 75c
i still beleive its my mobo that causes the E8400 to get so warm. ive tried 3 different Coolers and cant get any lower temps. allways the same no matter what cooler i have.
most of batch Q807 I saw ( had Q807A091 xeon ) get high temps .
i have afriend who has the E3110Xeon in a ASUS rampage formula i will have to see waht his batch number is. but his temps are lower than mine also. granted he has a TRUE 120mm cooler on his also
anyone knows if batch Q746A485 is good to overclock?
Does anyone know if there is a THERMAL PROFILE CHART like this one for the e8400/e8500 CPU? If so can you link me one... I can not find on for the life of me... Thanks..
Exact same batch Garret , share me the link plz I'll add that one too... Hope Faria can get those results instead of the one I posted :)
Hey I just googled the batch lol... not mine ;) (Xeon E3110 here @ 4.2@1.33v)
Should come from here: http://www.forumdeluxx.de/forum/show...hreadid=457105
Fabria till now all my Wolfies did 4ghz below 1.4volt, my best one till now did it at 1.24 Vcore, tomorrow I should get 2 new Cpu's will test those batches and report asap here... E8400 should do 4.3Ghz at 1.36 volts... so looking forward to that one...
Eviva Espana !!!!!!!!!
leeghoofd
are you doing any other adjustments to get that high of a OC(4.3ghz) other than takeing the vcore up?
so i should be able to get 4.0ghz with 1.30v?
CPU PLL I take up to 1.56 from 1.52 and FSB Term from 1.22 to 1.26... Rest just up Vcore...
But think you will have to verify that CPU IHS mate, you got a hothead like I have one... I'm planning to lap that IHS to see if temps drop... at stock CPU idles at 42° Coretemps and goes up to 60°C at 1volt lol...
oh i was just asking so id know for future OC's. yesi gotta do something about my temps for sure.
my 8400 does 4.3GHz at 1.37v
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...4300prime1.jpg
Ok, I'm in. I just picked up a E8400 at microcenter today. They are on sale for $185. I'll post results when I get around to installing this chip. Anyone want to speculate what this chip will do in my current rig?
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/1853/dsc00024hj3.jpg
Ohh look... its just a baby.
Intel really selling these puppies. Most sellers have newly manufactured chips only.
Hello,
I have my 'old' e8500 Q805A564 that I never got around to building with 'till now.
With a 'good' cpu-only WC loop, anyone care to venture on the the expectations for 24/7 speeds with this cpu + P5Q Dlx?
From the list compiled by Leeghoofd, it doesn't seem that my dream of 480*9.5 is going to be possible with reasonable v for 24/7. Looks like I should be able to hold 450*9.5 for 24/7. When I build, I'll definitely post results, but for now, any thoughts?? Also, max vcore for daily use 1.4 okay, or is lower needed for daily??
As promised, here is a screenshot with speed, voltage, stability [for some reason ORTHOS read my CPU as running 4.5Ghz ], the works [sorry for the poor quality again, that 200kb limit sucks!]:
I just got an interesting finding... I reconfigured my FSB/RAM settings and now ORTHOS reads the actual speed of my CPU [which is exactly the same as before]. The old settings were 9 x 475 = 4275, the new settings are 9.5 x 450 = 4275; and like I mentioned in my last comment [above] ORTHOS read the speed of my CPU at 4515Mhz, and it must have done something to the actual speed because my temps reached a whopping 67c but now they hardly go over 61c while performing the exact same test. Anyone care to comment on this?
On a side note, I'm currently running ORTHOS with the new settings, but instead of small FFT 8Ks as before, I'm doing a blend to test my new RAM settings. Have any of you noticed ORTHOS "paging" while running this test? I had never seen that before; although in my defense all I used ORTHOS for has been small FFT 8K tests in the past.
Normally a higher multi bundled with a lower FSB could be obtained with lower Vcore, so resulting in lower temps... but that's a big drop for the same overal CPU speed...Maybe the TIM has settled now, lower ambient temps ?
The Paging also happens here when running blend mode... don't worry about it... result added thx for the contribution mate, nice setup :)
I didn't lower the vCore or anything for that matter [CPU related]. The changes were mainly in the RAM department, I went from CAS8 [8-8-8-16] to CAS7 [7-7-7-14] just to see if I gained any performance. I also tried it to lower the Performance Level [CAS8 had Lv7] but when I tried Lv6 on CAS7 and ran any stress test/benchmark it rebooted my PC; so Lv6 is a no go. Ambient temperature still the same inside my house [air conditioned], outside however did drop a lot, but since the AC is on I know it has nothing to do with the result.
I guess it's because of the Blend Mode that the temps went down a little as it's supposed to stress CPU less than Small FFTs.
As for the speeds, Orthos cannot correctly detect the speed of a CPU with multiplier lower than stock (9.5 in your case). All it does is multiplying the correctly read FSB by the max multi of the CPU.
And nice OC result btw. I thought my brains stopped responding when i saw 0.9xx in cpu-z :D, but with 1.32v it's still a great chip. The max temps however are just the same as on my 8400 4.2 @ 1.400v and air cooled .
Hi all,
I placed an order for the e8400 along with the Asus P5Q-E, OCZ GameXStream 700w PSU, and CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 2 x 2GB last week and looking forward to some work this weekend. Anyone here with a similar board and CPU layout and can post a starter BIOS settings for me to work with?
Thanks!
My new result.Q749A091,1.58v real or so.

exellent oc4/3 !
Well been about 5 months or so since I tried to OC this computer (just been letting it sit at stock because no good games to play ATM). So, I decided to see if I could finally get 4Ghz 24/7 stable. I think I may have done just that.
So far:
3DMark Vantage stable, 1hr OCCT Mem stable, and 20hr Prime95 8k-128k stable.
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/3...me95ws7.th.jpg
Going to let it crunch away at some proteins for the next day or so for the final test.
Edit: Just finished 2hrs of OCCT Mem testing (like that more than 1hr)
Quick info on my new E8400
480x9=4320 @1,3700 (bios) and 2x2GB RAM @1152/5-5-5-15/2,0V (bios) - no timing and voltages optimisation yet...
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/773...750vzo8.th.jpg
SuperPi1MB = 10,922, more tests to come
So, there is no need to run also 3DMark Vantage at the same time to proove stability ??? Glad to hear that  ;)
As you can read in previous post - it's just quick info and more tests are still to come, so relax....
but still - I think 20hrs of Prime95/Orthos/StressPrime tesing is a bit to much (I think 6hrs Orthos priority 8 (min), and 1hr of 3DMark06 at max quality settingsis is enough) :yepp: After all - life corrects everything :D
EDIT:
Show me your 20hrs test printscreen @4,2GHz as given in your sig - if it is not a big problem :P
20H is tooo much for nothing 3h shows 24/7 stability for good 10h of blend is sure nice but 20h is overkill :p
or 48 hrs of folding ;)
LOL I was kinda of messing with you with the 20-hour thing because you said 8-min and I think you should relax.. I think a run of Small FFT's will do the trick. I only run about a 1 hour of PRIME95 Small FFT's, 1 hour of BLEND like you said, Superpi 32M a couple of times, and the same with 3DMARK06, and MEMTEST. And I will show you mine if I can see yours of course as long as you are a chick..
Ok, so I'm working on my first OC here. I just got my E8400 in a few days ago (Still waiting on the MB - DFI Lanparty LT X48 T2R). Anyway, I would be interested in hearing how high you all are managing to get this chip/mobo combo 24/7 stable and what settings you are using to do it.
Also, my batch # is Q815A418. Anyone have experience with OCing this batch and know how well it clocks?
This is the best of the 3 I have owned
My E8400 seems to have a 9.5 multiplier?? I just had enough time last night to get it installed but all the computer did was beep really fast. about 3 beeps/sec continuously and since it was after 10pm already i just went to bed. Wasnt going to start troubleshooting at that time.
So this morning I unplugged everything except keyboard and video and it started right up. After I set the BIOS (bios was showing a 9.5 multiplier also) and all to a FSB 400 and booted it i saw the post screen said 3.8Ghz. I only let it hit the desktop then shut down cause I have to do this work thing. I though the E8400 was locked.
I set the Vcore to 1.36 in bios. CPU -z read my voltage .04 less then waht bios is set at so
vcore 1.32
FSB 400
Memory all auto
Vmem +.2
Vfsb +.1
Vmch +.1
Booted right up at 3.8Ghz no problem
I will try some tweeking over the next couple nights until I can post some screenshots. Maybe get in the database. But I wanted to give an update. I was soo way past due for a good CPU.
