With the rigs I have at the moment I'm not sure how to improve my output and still keep things the way I want.

My 2600k is doing fine at 4.5 GHz and watercooled.
The 3770 (non k) is on a cheap mobo that doesn't undervolt. And running hot with the stock cooler and extra fan.
And the HTPC with an i3-540 is running stock speed and undervolted. I would like to upgrade this one to a quadcore. But that would mean adding a GFX card (now using the GFX in the i3) That would add heat and noise. And need more power than the 250 watt PSU can deliver 24/7.

But I will look what I can do. We need to impove as a team. We all know we can do much better.

Doesn't the i7 have GFX on it also?

Yes, they do.

But the 2600k should stay where it is. It is my main cruncher. Overclocked and watercooler. Quietly doing the work.

That leaves the 3770, but that one doesn't fit the board I use for the i3. 1156 vs 1155 socket. And it would need a big cooler to get it silent and cool to have in the living room.

I have a spare i7-860 that fits in place of the i3. But that doesn't have integrated graphics. And runs much hotter.

Looks like I need to build me a new HTPC.:rolleyes:

all you need for a linux cruncher is
a) Linux
b) ssh for maintenance and set up
c) boinc

after you've installed SSH you don't need display, you can just conf everything from your main via putty...if you want i can do tutorial


for boinctasks to work you need to edit /etc/boinc-client/remote_hosts.cfg

nano /etc/boinc-client/remote_hosts.cfg

and add ip of your compuiter that is running boinctasks

Oh gotcha, 1st gen didn't have.

I understand. last summer before I bought my new 10K AC I had to shut down during the day. The 6K couldn't handle the load.
As to that window film it works pretty good if you can find it cheap enough.
