Anyone remember the trick with the 975XBX board where you could enable diagnostic mode by covering a pad on the bottom of the CPU?
I wonder if 771 has this too.. might solve some problems ;)

Wow, that looks really neat man. Just get rid of those plug n cool connectors... pleaaase :D
hey question for jrool.
nice set up you got there!
now i recently just built my system using that board.
loving it btw!
there's a story on why i got it actully, and how it explains for the use of only 1 cpu.
which is a qx9775 got it to 4.0ghz! flawlessly and still has more to go. i hope.
anyways, i do not have the 4pin connector pluged into my motherboard,
but it boot first try,
now will not having it in do any damage to my computer?
also i noticed that my gpu's 2x 4870x2's are doing some serious blockage of the 4pin connect, and it doesn't seem like it would be able to fit either way.
You only need that if you have 2 CPU's.
To use that with a long card you will have to unsolder the connector from the board and attach wires in its place (extend it) or you might get by with grooves cut into the sides of the PSU-side plugin allowing the wires to splay outwards...
Here is photos of complete main block.
To jcool: plug'n'cool connectors will be change soon ;-)

Wonderful
Is that nickel-plated ?
Yes it is nickel-plated, as all blocks in circuit
That is beautiful! Nice job. I'm a fan of the nickel-plating too!
HOLD IT!
If we gonna do a group buy on those ram blocks..
Make sure you put my name in for 2 sets.
IF YOU GUYS LEAVE ME OUT, I WILL UNLEASH HELL ON ALL OF YOU!
I found something i want, and dave knows how i am when i do find something i want.
A1EX, PM me price + shipping to ConUS please. If you take paypal, you should see it posted within a day.
i was also wondering why i am having this strange problem with my vcore,
for some reason everytime i change it from default, for exp set it to 1.35v. save and exit,
then go back into the bios and it will auto set it to 1.6v
and will not let me change it to anything but default.
is there a way to fix this?
thank you!
It is a known bios bug for 0302. Run default until Asus gets around to fixing the bug :(
I assume you are using a QX CPU, correct?
awh shucks.
thats a big downer!
thanks for the info though!
and yup got myself a qx9775
Hi Guys, I've just finished building my Z7S-based rig. Many thanks to jcool, milkmandan and the rest for putting so much info on this thread :-)
My config is as follows:
2x Xeon 5410, stock cooling
Z7S WS BIOS Rev 0302
Kingston KVR800D2D4F5K2 (2x 2GB), cooled by an OCZ XTC cooler
Palit Radeon HD 4850 512MB
CoolerMaster RS-650 PSU (650W, SSI compliant)
Samsung 750HDD
Silverstone Kublai KL03 case
24" LCD
DVD burner, WiFi card, Card Reader, yada yada
Everything seems to be running well. The only thing annoying me is that there is only a single internal USB header on the board, making it impossible to plug in my internal card reader, and my case's front USB ports simultaneously.
I'm running a Prime95 test overnight to make sure everything is stable.
One question though: CPU-Z does not show my memory running in dual channel mode, I'm using the first and the third ram slots (From the NB heatsink). I tried using the first and second slots, and that didn't work either. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks!
I love this thread.
Ordered an Asus z7s together wit 2x L5410 and 2 EK supremes (Nice to see you guys already figured out how to get them in place ;-).
I know, 5410 ? what the f:nuts:k, but I bought this set to upgrade, and in less than a year I will probably be able to buy some 9775's for a very affordable price.
I also ordered 2x4GB Kingston 667 FB, but I'm now wondering, will I be able to overclock as the bios (i did not know) uses a 1:1 multiplier or should I get the 800's ?
Give me your wisdom...
Im running dual 5430s and 6x4Gb 667 sticks. Ran fine for me except the temps on the FB-DIMMs was around 100c according to the BIOS. I had a MIPS RAM cooler that i got for a different board so now im only running 16Gb instead of 24, but my temps are low 30s now. Put me down for a 6x cooler when theyre ready!
100c ?! With or without any OC ?
Fortunately I ordered the Asus memorycooler.
I saw the BIOS shows the mem temps, will Everest also show the temps?
FB's run hot no matter whether you overclock them or not.
100c without overclocking. i think the middle ones would get up to 110-120, but thats also stacked 6 deep
CPU-Z can't read what mode you're running.. it doesn't say QuadChannel for me either ;)
Don't worry, if you got 2 DIMMs in Slots 1 & 3, you run DC.
Go with the 800's by any means. This board just loves FSB, I can do FSB 450 primestable with the new E0 step quads :up:Quote:

With 667 mems you'll probably get to around 400... SInce the 5410's will probably go higher than 400, it would be a waste of potential.
Plus the 800 FBDimms aren't really more expensive.
4Gb/800 sticks are double the price of 4Gb/667
