HH do your quoted figures apply to quad core also ? I was under the impression that dual cores clock much higher on this chipset , and not to expect any more than 430-450 on a quad .

Im at 450 right now no problems with a Q9450. My E8400 did hit 500. Dual core and the amount of ram (banks) seems to have a direct reflection on teh FSB and how high it can go with X amount of volts. Your thinking is correct though, in general, duals will o/c higher on this board. Dont expect to get 535 FSB with a quad.
To be honest I really dont know  I do however think that if you lower your multi far enough that you can hit 500mhz with a Q6600. I dont see why anyone would ever want to do that though. This board requires too much NB/SB voltage to get up to 500mhz IMO. I dont like the heat the the NB produces. I wonder if the duals have better bandwidth due to less watts requirements. Probably has something to do with that.
MCP Temps are before TIM replacement

Good job Paulxmn
Here is mine:
Thanks, never hit 4000 with the Q6600 on the 680i, Gigabyte P35/X38. Nice results with the E8400.Quote:

Anyone with a Q9x50 on this board yet????? What are your GTLvref settings?
Anybody experiencing the graphic card artifact problem that seems to be more chipset related thats talked about in this thread?

Ugh, my 780i board is misbehaving. I got it from MotherboardPro, and just now began to set it up. It had some nasty sticky stuff on the backside, and I'm not sure if that was causing it to short or something. I've gotten all sorts of Post Codes, and I get absolutely new video.
RMA time you think?
PS - Thank god I still have my 680i.
Quite thankfully, no.
I went through four...yes four 680i boards and I pray each and every night that I never have to experience that again. So far, my step-up 780i is working quite nicely. I have a QX6700 and haven't tried overclocking yet. It's been together and working for about 10 days.
hi all. :)
I've some problems with 4 sticks memory, and with first BIOS mobo boot but Win crash and with P04 mobo don't boot!
I tried both 4*2gb Vitesta Extreme 800+ and Cell Shock D9GKX 4*1Gb.
P.S. : like my rig, I've a XFX...
just did the vdroop mod...before it took 1.525 bios.which gave me 1.472 idle.1.448 running pi and was hitting 68-70c temps @ 3.6 on my xeon ( which will run 1.39 stable normally) ( i just started there to see the vdroop and temps)
now after the mod, and testing and adding a touch more pencil at each test, im @ 1.4 bios 1.4 windows @ idle, and 1.392 load both cores and temps now down to 54-56 load ( yea need to lap this one but im waiting on my 8400 first to take the system apart) thats a vdroop of only .008 load from bios, so it looks like it pays to pencil then test till ya get a really close vdroop to bios...cant wait to get the 8400 it will be here wed....
Doing the vdroop mod made a huge difference for me
I've tried a couple times and at first it doesnt seem like its doing anything. Using #2 pencil. I think I knocked it down though, from a .5v droop to a .3v. Just seems like the pencil is too smooth to lay anything down on metal. Also, my MCP is hitting 70c running Orthos right now, should I be worried? Idles in the low 60s.
One important question if I could please get help on this, do I have to flash the P03 bios to run my GSkill at 1000 mhz? Orthos fails blend but not cpu.
^^ kinda frustrating how 4 sticks cause so much instability huh? Maybe try running them at below stock speeds.
guys i just finishing my new gaming setup , running 2 9600 PALIT SONIC/Q6700/Kingston DDR2 1066, Nforce 780I.BFG 800W PSU,
whats the best way to load windows ? with the 2 videocards installed or only one? and debating on what windows to buy windows vista 64bit? windows XP 64 bit? or 32bit?
thanks in advance
Dont worry about having vid cards installed... has nothing to do with anything. Memory too... some people think you cant load windows with 4gb memory. I did!
I have 64bit. It's been a headache! I dont know if it's due to the stability issues with 64bit or just Vista itself, however it does recognize all 4GB of memory. I have read though many places that 64bit will use more of that memory so it doesnt really make much of a difference unless you are using 8gb of memory. I am happy overall and still if I did it again would get 64bit... not to say that there is anything wrong with 32bit it just doesnt give you option for 8gb of memory (like I'm gonna need 8gb anyway!)... Just my $.02!
ok guys...oem Q801A290 batch.( tankguys) nothing special...4050 @ 1.400 real volts loaded, occt passed, load temps 56... idle 34...32m dual pi stable
ran 3600@ 1.257 i think it was, not positive on that one , id have to go back and retest the low for 3.6...was great till then....the it started taking the volts to move any higher, sizable jumps till the 4050 at what you see above. but great temps with a tunic, gaming @ 43c-44c...so im satisfied, finally..in the 4ghz club...( alittle late, but what the hell...im there :)
The EVGA board is on sale @ Motherboardpro for 227.99!! http://www.motherboardpro.com/EVGA-1...ard-p-468.html
Sweet price considering what newgauge is getting.
Hello guys.
I have a E8400 on my EVGA 780i SLI board. What's the maximum fsb you have reached with a 45nm dual core cpu? And what are the bios settings for that fsb. Bc I can't seem to pass 500 mhz. I think 790 board is way much better in max. fsb.
I've never tried to go above 500mhz. However when I did get there I was never out of the "red" in bios voltages. So I assume that I can squeeze some more out of it. However I use Vista and it seems to BSOD a lot whenever I go above 450mhz with 9 multi.
wow the vdroop with a c2q on this mb is unf***ing believable!im getting .12 droop underload...with a c2d it isnt very bad but this is terrible.i have to set 1.55v in bios to get 1.43 actual :/
time to do the pencil mod.
