Well I had my fingers crossed that a few necessary parts for my darkside build would arrive in the mailbox today, and they did :D

First, the IP35-E and Q6600 in it in all its glory...

And the backplate with the original Fuzion hardware attached to it. I bought and used some other bolts and nuts on my old AMD setup because the threading was different.

Haha I don't think that the Q6600 will boost me up over 7K PPD from my current standing ;)

I'm thinking I'll just go ahead and start work here soon, I figure I'm only like 8% into this WU so not like its been working on it for a while, I can try to save it, and even if I can't I'll make up for lost time pretty quickly I'd think.

reboot the pc to kill the client, then make a copy of the entire install folder...
then just run the install on the new machine, and copy the backup ontop of the new install folder...

it'll save it, I've done it before.
fah doesn't approve of sneaker netting, but you can do it...

edit: I'm talking about smp here... not sure on gpu2..

Well it looks like it is just an average chip, VID of 1.3175V and it isn't prime stable for more than a couple seconds at 3.6GHz 1.45V :( oh well. Gotta tinker with it more though.

I'm really glad that you have things sorted out a bit now, Sparky. After your ordeal with attempting the RMA, at least you have something that will work well, Intel or otherwise.

Oh I still have that RMA to deal with, believe me :rolleyes: I have to convince AMD to replace the CPU so that I can sell the replacement. The only way I can afford to do this.

BTW, your stats look a tad low again... beef 'em up! :D

My PSU died and I chose to wait a week + for the replacement unit from RMA. Traded a 600 watt xfinity for a 650 watt LSP series. Strangely enough, the voltage regulation on the new one is impressively good; efficiency still sucks though...

I'll beef up my scores as I can, but I need to figure out a few things in terms of cooling, etc.

Keep us updated on the RMA thing. If they refuse and we need to figure out a way to "make the upgrade work," talk to me :)

Well I'm trying to keep the mosfets under control right now. Last night I was hitting 80C :eek: so today I pulled the heatsink and removed the crappy rubber-like pad and replaced it with ceramique. Replaced the pushpins with screws too. Thing is when the heatsink is mounted the board warps ever so slightly and it looses some contact between the fets and the heatsink. It did stay a bit cooler and it took longer but they have hit 80C again, but at least the heatsink actually feels quite warm now. Hmm gotta find a way to mount a fan on it or something.... A thermalright HR-09 would do wonders as it would be right in front of my rear fan but none of them will fit :(

Do you have a backplate for the heatsinks? That would be a great way to at least minimize some of that. If not, I can either dig some up or machine some or something...

Edit: Some nice ram sinks would probably work just as well also, just use the adhesive AS5 and you would have good contact and heat transfer without the warping...

No I have no backplate for the mosfet heatsink. I'm thinking that one would be good once I get something more final but right now I'm just rigged up so I don't want to try anything yet. Something like thermalright's HR-09 would be perfect but it won't fit properly. Wish I had the capability and know-how to make my own thing similar to that. Heck, even something like a glorified swiftech MC14 heatsink, only larger and taller to fit my mosfets would work I'd think...

I'm going to dig through my stash of old heatsinks that I have at home next time I'm there and see if there is anything I can hack up. You said you machine things? A backplate for this would be a useful thing if you can do that type of thing. What would be the cost?

Currently this is my rigged up cooling (that little fan is driving me crazy lol), twist ties are so useful! :D

If you can tell me the exact dimensions needed, I'll see what I can do. The approximate size of the holes and the diagonal distance between them should be enough to do the job. I'll see if I can find the info online. Price wouldn't be anything, its just a scrap of metal with holes....

I had to tear down my folding rig, sorry guys. I'm consolidating my farm, and going on a little vacation. In a month or so, when the the gpu2 client is a little more mature, I'll get a folding rig going again :)

Trouble out the wazoo. Narrowed it down to the CPU, which I had already done, but they didn't believe me. Kept blaming my board. Which by the way is now on their recommended board list :rolleyes: Tested with another phenom 9600BE that belongs to a member here and it worked just fine and even overclocked to 2.8GHz without issue (any higher was going to take a lot of tweaking). So I have to call AMD again (probably tomorrow as I'll have a chance then) and convince them to take my CPU back and this time actually give me a replacement.

I'll go through a lot, but this just totally killed my enthusiasm for them. Don't get me wrong, I still prefer AMD, and the next time they come out with a great setup I'll hop back on the AMD wagon but for now this disgruntled and slightly insane AMD guy is in the intel camp - for a little while at least!

I was like, "Yay another budget OCer" and then i saw the watercooling :p: Do those NB heatsinks really help in OCing??

I already had the watercooling from a year ago. Not sure if the NB helps with overclocking but I already had the HR-05 so I figured what the heck and put it on.

Man considering how long this is taking by now and through what you have to go to get that chip replaced it's laughable... this is no customer support this is a joke. In the end I guess they're all the same..

Of course the NB cooling helps OCing. Very often past 400-450 etc, an unfanned NB can very well be the limit.

Riptide what a bull... how many p35 mobo's and up can run high fsb's on air. This is XS, I don't have to link you to another forum even :confused: If you ment, yes you could potentially reach a higher oc if the nb temp was your limiting factor or yeah most off the time it's the cpu's wall not the nb but it can never hurt to try..

Well on a Q6600 it takes 400MHz to get 3.6GHz, and I've seen some at 3.8GHz which takes 422, so it is entirely possible to get up there.
