i removed the IHS off the 146 CAB2E today and WOW does it make a difference :eek:

with IHS ......................... without IHS

temps were:
cpu - 35C idle & 51C load - pwmic 48C - gpu 31C
without the IHS on today & higher ambient
cpu - 33C idle & 38C load - pwmic 56C - gpu 40C

the paste under the IHS was naff, i had to use a stanley knife to get it off!!
at least i got 2 146's doing 3.1ghz stable now though, just gotta find a cabne now :D

When you guys remove the IHS, Do you make some shims like the XP cpu's?(The round rubber thingies)

I am kinda afraid i'll crush my core when I tighten my WC block.
Btw: Is the AMD64 Core easier crusable then a AXP core ??

Going to try it anyway, 10-12°C is huge and since my eheim pump 1048 is too weak for my WC loop i'll give it a try.

yep, it was loading @ 51C for 3ghz so couldnt go any higher but now running 3.1ghz :D

Hi everyone, Got my MACH II today but I didn´t recieve the DFI lanparty SLI-DR.
How low temps can the 146 CABYE 0540 handle before it coldbugs?`
Will -40C be a problem or just good? :)
hoping to reach 3500mhz on monday!

it is a good investment but depends if youre lucky with the cpu, most people i spoke to said theres started @ -20C and knowing my luck id have the same problem and dont fancy putting high volts through to try and raise temps, the only way youll know is by trying it, you may have a better cpu?

Mine seemed to work just fine. I made sure that I didn't tighten my waterblock to tight. Now that the AS5 has settled in my temps are slightly lower. Right now Room temp is 20C and load temp on water is 34C @ 2.8GHz CABYE 0536 1.55v

Try it on the Board must not be killed. I have friends who killed also the little Bugs on the core one of them and the Chip is working. Good working.

Mayday, mayday, mayday.

I have a huge problem and it makes me nuts.

I changed from E3 venice to opteron 146 and when i booted to windows the comp booted itself after awhile. So i installed all drivers again hoping it would solve everything. Nothing changed.

Then i installed a fresh windows. Now when i started a web browser AN INSTANT REBOOT. It does this with IE and Mozilla Firefox. I have tried 623-3 and 7xx bioses and its no go :(

This makes me mad mad mad mad mad.

Edit: mayday cancelled. After trying everything i tried another lan port and everything works fine. Damn im stupid :slap:

Check mem stability, can you pass 32M SuperPi with Opteron?

I havent had the time to even test the opteron yet. Hopefully i hit 3Ghz+ with Air cooling :banana: CABYE0540FPBW it is. :)

I´m using the 623-3 Bios and it works fine with an Opteron 170 DC.
And im using the Lanport high above must be the first. I had never Problems with the Lanports and Opterons.

i popped in the opty 150. cant pass prime after ~2.7GHZ. same deal with my SD core. SPI32M passes well after that. i will try this LAN port thang, as well as disabling everything and trying again.

you guys think i should raise my +12 rail? doesn't appear low, but two cpu's, similar 'prime95' limit. doesn't make any sense.

also noticed that dual channel with my classic BH5 is iffy. will get no boot when both sticks in initially (after CCMOS clear, etc.). the only way i can do it is if i pop one stick in top orange, boot up, shutdown, stick the second stick in lower orange, and then itll boot up.

similar deal with the UTT BH.

the CH5 doesnt appear to exhibit this issue.

tested on fxtest60. things appear slightly better on 704-2bt, but it is still there (the 'wierdness').

any thoughts?

Will Prime until 2.94Ghz for 30min, then 1.504v for 2.95~2.97Ghz. And then I get killed by temps. IHS removed, hetasink lapped mirror-like finish and as5 was used. Venus12 Cooler at 6000rpm and I get 53C Load with 1.504v

This cpu should prime at 1.6v@3000Mhz, but guess what happened when I tried that?. 34C idle, fired up Prime then after 1 sec. 44C, after 2 sec. 54C (I thought this ain't good), after 3 sec. 61C :shocked: and then after every 2 sec. it went 1C up until 65C and then I stopped Priming.

So now I run 2.9Ghz at 1.392v, btw my CABYE 0536GPMW ran at avg. 10C cooler at same speeds with same setup. No worry though, Big Typhoon + 151cfm delta is coming soon ;)

what do you guys think...Ultra D or save up for A8N32-SLI ?

I can buy any mb I want but I just bought another Ultra-d. They clock high HTT and the bios is very mature. The last 2 U-D's have both clocked 380+HTT with an 8x.

I used Abit for as long time. Since the Intel Celery 300 that overclocked to 500.... rememver them suckers.. I changed this year to DFI NF4 Ultra D just because of the hype..... I will never go back... Get the DFI
Best mobo I ever had and all of them where Abit and a few Asus. I also built a lot of machine using MSI and other..

DFI is the way to go.. :banana:

Asus A8R-MVP should be everywhere next week, seems like a nice mobo with a nice price tag.

You better do some reading before you hook that thing up. The last thing you want is to fry your new system. Good luck.

Has anyone been buying any 150s from anywhere in the US? I'm looking to get one from the egg.. guessing they still might be old since not a lot of people are buying them and they are a little overprice compared to other retailers.

my current philosophy on the IHS.. is 100mhz (max) worth the posibility of killing your cpu? is it really? will you be going for a WR with this cpu? No?? then why the 100mhz..

And in my experience I gained 0mhz from popping the IHS and in one case ended up with a cpu that was doa after ihs removal. the other one that gained no mhz died within a few months after ish removal..

so is it really worth it.. no...

thats why my 146 taht does 2.9ghz will be staying with its IHS firmly planted on the core for as long as it shall live.

I have a Opteron 148 CABYE 0536 GPMW, for now this are the results using a xp90c with a noisebloker 92mm( i crap of fan) and a cpu almost without AS5( is finished in the same time that i put on the cpu :( )

Heres my new CABYE 146 0543FPMW

I can actually bench OK with only 1.42Vcore but with such high Vdimm I was worried about frying my chip so upped the Vcore a little

Lets all remember that CPU-Z always shows .04-.05 below what is set in the Bios. Like I did 2950 at stock voltages, but CPU-Z read 1.36.

He EPMW was earlier one of the best overclockersteppings.
I know an 3700SD who has the Stepping 0508EPMW and it runs 3230Mhz at 1,56VC Primestable. Owner is Stonka on HWLXX.

Yes you have right nothig is comparable. Only same Productionweek and SN.
And even then is a lucky thing to get an good CPU.
HS is very important for clocking. Best CPUs have almost bad HS´s.
But EPMW where in the Past FX Steppings and APMW and GPMW and MPMW etc.

CABYE0540FPBW is the best choice if you don´t get an CABNE0530APMW.
Best Board is the DFI Lanparty SLI-DR or the UT-D if you don´t need SLI.
Bios is 623-3 good and the 704-2BTA it´s on your RAM Sticks you are Using what BIOS you have to use.

I'd agree but the chances of finding a CABNE0530APMW are slim.

I picked up may second one from a private seller. Its not quite as good as my original due only to the fact its taking a lot more volts to get to the same place. Still a very strong CPU. :D

I know Gundamit i never got an better Chip like my 0530APMW.
And i never saw a chip who booted at 1,318Vc on Water up with 3Gig. And never saw a chip who is Primestable at 3Gig with 1,328Vcore on Water with HS still on it.
And i will never get an Chip like that, not so soon.
Maybe in the near future. But up to date i have not seen an chip like mine on Water.
And i can boot on 3,1Gig at 1,392Vc but its not Primestable.
And the Chip ist got an nice SN.: 1288864 with an 072 Batch
