Ah ok no problem, I thought it was only Large FFT ;) That's an excellent CPU you have there.

Nice, 3845B027 is about the best batch produced so far. Seems our CPUs are virtually identical in vcore requirement for 4GHz, yours requiring only 0.008v more.
Due to your low ambient temp, your chip is running around 15 - 17*C cooler than mine under load.
I have 3923A and I say it is not your nice and friendly batch.
I'm able to reach 4439 MHz with 1.45v on CPU !!!!
I was able to cplete 8 hours of prime95 and 20 runs on LinX but couldn't like the taste of running my CPU 24/7 with that voltage.
I backed off a little and now testing the CPU @ 4305 MHz with 1.35v.
I'll post pics later tonight !
That's not too bad really. There's certainly a lot worse out there.
OK here is mine, not so sharp.

4.3GHz It tries lightly. 3845B027 doesn't want electricity so much. It is a very good chip. However, it is a hot chip for a moment
http://happy.ap.teacup.com/yomoyama/img/1258607192.jpg
Nice work guys. Yeah, mine is very hot also, low VID chips need water cooling to really shine.
Nearly as good as mine!

This is my first attempt after building the thing. Not messed with memory timings yet. CPU seems a bit hot. I can boot and enter Win7 at 4515 (21x215) but unstable obviously...
QPI/VTT is at 1.315v. Don't really know what to use for this as i'm new to i7's.
Any suggestions for improvements other then up vcore and pump 4300mhz in ?

24/7 is 4200 @ 1,184V with 2000 mem 8-9-8-24
4600 is to hot for 24/7...
emertX,thats incredible,but with a chip like this
you really should consider moving somewhere
like iceland or alaska so you can keep that OC
24/7.it not fair to the chip:rofl:Just kidding
but seriously thats a great OC,good job
@ emertX
very good job bro, that is a might fine CPU you got there my friend
Yep, 4.6x is max I have seen prime or linx for any length of time. And most use abnormally low ambients to get 4.6, including myself.
At 4.4ghz, my i950 is very stable whether 72 load or 90C load (turned fans off on rad to get 90s).
At 4.5, got 11+ hrs prime and linx max mem, but with indigo tim and 23C ambients and 2rads to keep load temps in mid 70's. If load gets in high 80s = bsod.
At 4.6, I can get prime only few hours, and linx 20 run max mem, but with 15C ambients (outside temps). Inside temps = bsod.
Yeah, specially with 920 or w3520, a couple of BCLK up, and many motherboards won't even boot at 222+ with x21 multi.
It takes a really good CPU-batch (+ good MB, RAM and cooling too) to get it Prime-stable at @4.6GHZ+.
It is the ultimate 24/7 OC on the current platform, I guess.
Only up to page 26..........by time I've read this thread you'll all be posting in the Gulftown thread
^^^
If you pace yourself just right, we will still be here after killing our gulftowns with too much voltage :p:.
Cooling was changed from MUGEN∞2(SCMG-2000) to Megahalems. It and grease changed from AS-05 to Thermal Elixer.

^^^^ very good job. Amazing CPU. How much better are your temps now?
Yeah, I'd like to have these temps 24/7, but just 4,2GHz are that hot at load with 23°C ambient in my living room.
Thanks bro.
My kind of exotic cooling (Not mine, just picked up at google!!!):
Attachment 98939
Putting the pc in there, open all windows and doors, hope for good temps outside - it had 11°C then - and let the machine run!
I have a good friend from america who didn't know my radiator, maybe you also don't know - so here it is:
I have 9 x 120's on it!
Attachment 98951
My aim was to run the computer as fast as it can do...due to the fact, that the pcie-clock is limited by Gigabyte at 103.5 MHz I can't go further. There's a Solder mod, but I don't have the heart to do that. Except this fact, the board is impressive and easy to handle to! I now know, that it is possible to run 4,6 GHz, but I don't need it!
Thanks a lot bro.....
I know people running 4,8 on Chiller and one who ran 5GHz primestable with LN2!!!
@emertX: You got a really nice cpu there, low voltage but also quite hot. If you you do the PCIe mod on your GB, I think you'll find that its easier to get 4.6+ stable with slightly less vcore at 104+ on the pci. Thats my experience atleast.
Yeah I'd like to do that, but I don't want to break my mobo...did you do the mod?
Yes, max bootable/stable bclk now is 232 (228 before mod). Think i need cold to get further.
How did you do that? Was it easy?
Could you explain and tell with which voltages you got 4,7GHz primestable? Edit:
Just saw, you just took 4 Threads...Mine is with 8 Threads.
@5GHZ Primestable is great, but LN2 won't work for 24/7 you know.
That 9x120 looks good. Sniper got the same batch# as you, and I remember he was talking about low-voltages but extra heat on this batch#.
I see 9x120 got the heat under control on that hot CPU, good job . With this kind of "exotic"-cooling, you should go for @4.7GHZ now, ... go go ..
The mod is probably easy if your good at soldering, think hicoockie said he used 1 min to do it. For me it was not that easy, but got it in the end.
In normal room temp (22-24 degrees) with 2 360 rads with 1200/1400 rpm fans my W3520 can do ~3640 HT on and ~3750 without HT and still be under 80 degrees in RealTemp for Linx/Prime.
24/7 I'm running at 4515 1.328vcore 1.3vtt and fans turned down to ~700 rpm.
Seems to be the same as mine, but I'm using 1,34Vtt and 1,29V Vcore @ 4,5
Do you Giga owners find your board undervolts much?
1.2 in bios gives me 1.152 in CPU-Z.
@emertX: The picture in the mod thread is better than what I can take.
@vaio: Yes, that is typicall for GB.
Thanks Sniper.
Yes, JC has advised me to lock down LLC.....will see if that settles her down.:)
Oh man...if I will gain that much with the mod??? My board is primestable @ 19x226 with 8 threads, so it is very good, and I do not want to damage it due to some points in 3dmark...
Up to page 66 of this epic novel :D
Seemingly solid at.
200 x 19 HT on.....1.212v in bios (1.168 in Windows).
Makes for a decent lil cruncher.:)
pup, you got an i7? Where as I?
Needed a new workhorse to help me back into the top 40 at Poem :D
Currently alternating between Poem and WCG trek.
cool, what are the specs on that rig dude?
In sig :)
Running nice and conservative 3.8 at the moment.
200 x 19 HT on/Turbo off.

Acts up at anything over 3.8 so leaving her be for now.
Voltages need tweaking a little to go higher (if she can) but right now she seems rock solid so leaving her be.
My lean mean Poem machine :D
very nice pup, I didn't notice the specs were in the sig dude. Gotta love i7's for crunching bro, they are amazing.
hi everyone im really getting annoyed i have my i7 920@4.0ghz and if i run intel burn test on standard it will pass 20 times no problem but if i set it to maximum it normaly fails on the second pass and i get a +xxx number at the end of the result
what im i doing wrong is there any way i can get this stable

i really dont know what to do can anyone plese help me
Use 21 multi (turbo always on).
You may need more VTT (up to 1.35).
Set DRAM to 1.66V.
If you have a c0, you may need even higher vCore and VTT.
if i go 2 noches higher in the vtt its telling me im overvolting and i dont know if that safe
plus my cpu is a d0 but do i turn down my bclk to make it up to 4ghz with the boost on
and will i need to up the volts on the memory since im not running it at 1866mhz becuse its only @1600mhz with default clocks
thanks for your help
ps i have found a thread just for the gigabite ex58 ud5 im hoping to get some help there as well thanks again

i have my i7920@3.7ghz and i have used prime for 12hours (small fft's) and no probs even gaming for hours but now and again when i go to boot up the pc it resets the bios and tells me there is an overclock problem
if i go into the bios and then save and exit it then boots no problem again
what the hell is wrong i really dont understand it
is there something im doing wrong
my specks are
i was also 4.0ghz stable with thease settings i just changed the base clock

If I raise Bclk to 211 or 212 the PC would fail linx randomly even when I boost CPU voltage to 1.48 which I don't really like, If I raise the Bclk any more the PC would fail to POST!!!
Not sure what's lagging me behind, is it the mobo or the CPU ?!?
I can't tell untill I optain another CPU.
@ salamndar
Follow this guide to see if it's CPU or board. It explains how to find max BCLK and how to max out each component. This way you'll be able to tell what is holding you back.

i think it's your CPU, do you allready try another cpu?

Does the default/stock i7 cpu voltage indicate the overclockability of the cpu?
well, it doesn't always indicate the overclockability but it lower vid chips have higher chance to overclock better with lower vcore, but I have seen high vid chips overclocks really good too.
it is impossible to get a low i7 920 vid now with the 39xx batches, most vid for this batches varies between 1.2500 ~ 1.3000v, whith the older 38 batches some batches had 1.17500v ~ 1.200v vid.
You have to test your own chip to know if it overclocks good or no ;)
Vid is meaningless. Some of the best clocking chips I've had were with a high vid. From an E6700 that ran 10x400 daily with a 1.325 vid, to this i7 with a 1.2875 vid. It does 4ghz with less than 1.25v and I have benched it at 4.6 with less than 1.4v. All on air cooling.
Nice, good to know. I was kind of disappointed tbh when i saw the vid. I will report back when i have some results.
An early screenshot: P6T Deluxe V2 (B3 chipset) with the original 610 bios. HT Off.
(With the no-throttling 0006 bios and the same settings it's fully stable. This CPU is able to validate 4.7GHz with less than 1.5v)

I don't mean to disrespect anyone, but have you read RealTemp thread? There is NO VID DATA stored in Core i7 CPU's.
There is only VID voltage range of 0.800V-1.375V specified by Intel and Max safe voltage of 1.55V for vCore.
AFAIK all MB should set 1.15V for i7 without turbo and 1.25V with turbo enabled.
I know that, I was just stating what is shown when you load defaults in bios since that is what most people refer to as vid with the i7's. I've had at least a dozen i7's and they all load a different voltage at default. I've never seen a default voltage lower than 1.225. With all auto settings, I've seen speed step set all the way down to 1.125 in windows.
Ok testing at the moment. Cant go very high due to stock crappy HS. 21x175 HT On, 1.258 idle, 1.211 load, 87C max under Linx, everything stock.

Have you also gave farewell to your TRUE old friend, I see mega improvements in benching as well the megashadow if you know what I mean
oh i c... lol :D
lol. The mega is great though, does a heck of a job at high clocks.
Earlier today i was doing a little testing on the new cpu. Since i am at stock cooling atm i decided to find the max i can push for 2-3 linx passes with full memory and ht on with stock everything. Max i could go was 21x185 which crashed after 1+ min with temps at 86-88C. I know i shouldnt go that high but i wanted to check the overclockability. Was the crash due to the very high temp or due to low voltage?
Told ya mega is good doesnt matter if its shadow or helms after that only difference is apart from the color one is in states another is in kingdom lol :D
My best benching would be this......so far....... not too shabby:rolleyes:
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/842/384.jpg
And this one as well with my new foun xeon W3520 .......
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9315/3845b020.png
When ever the temp starts to get towards 90c I increase the fan rotation from low to max, gives a good 8c to 10c drop in temp. as you can see in my 4200mhz benching ;)
Hello mate, in my opinion it could be both, but I suspect its volt since core i7 thermal temp protection kicks in around 99C (or 100 cis it?) but agian its just my personal assumption, all you need to to do is apply one noth more volt see what happens...you will get the answer. ;)
very good IMO, I was just about to start wondering why they were so high in the first pic
Thanks CHICKEN patty but im still crunching on those...:D
At the moment got Scythe DFS123812L-2000 (2000rpm version) since I prefer a balance match silence + performence, these 38mm create good presure as well, but sometime during benching 3000rpm yeilds much better, though mega recommends 1200-1600RPM :D
Tell me patty whats the max BCLK limit of your Board ? Was wondering apart from the classified which mobo would you recommend on avarage for high BCLK?
Im stuck with p6T Deluxe 225BCLK limit, and I dont want 225+ with insane PCIE volt, so might switch to another mobo
IMO, I have never tried to find max BCLK for my board. however, I seem to be able to get the same clocks as everyone else using air cooling when benching. With a 21 multi the max I hit I think was 226 BCLK.
After getting 5.2 validated on water with 0C outside temps, than another hour trying to increase bclk....turns out cpuz 1.53 is out....thankssssss
Now warmed up to 7C, so best could do is 5.13. I need to get ln2, but have to get another mobo, ie classified, to make ln2 worthwhile, pretty sure I can max bclk on Gb board with just outside temps. But too happy with 24/7 never an issue GB board. Need to get separate bench comp I guess.

You'd better use watercooling at least, realtemp will give you a good idea about the thermal status of your cpu while overclocking.
