I ended up solving the issue last night by basically shimmieing up and elevating the motherboard pin. Here's a visual of my motherboard with the thermaltake spirit 2 northbridge mounted with what I did. Sitting on the top of the northbridge are some extra lifter type pins that I used so you guys can see.

WHY? And what to do?
Getting Your Sata Drives To Work In Ahci Mode
I had a desire to run my SATA HDs and my IDE cd/dvd rom drive off of ACHI instead of IDE (which is PATA). I read somewhere that you can use AHCI MODE instead of Standard IDE mode (even after you install XP. AHCI is suppose to be installed when XP is installed using F6 during setup) and in some cases AHCI will work better. However, its a true PITA to get it up and running because once you install XP any AHCI driver is simply not recognized by XP. Even if you download Intel's Matrix drivers it will not install regardless if you use the bootable disk version Floppy Configuration Utility or if you use the .exe version Intel Matrix. Until I stumbled upon this thread that explains it to a T although unorthodox it does in fact work. Once you finally get XP to load using AHCI you then go back and update to the lastest Intel Matrix if you like (if necessary).
Folks I have found a thread that explains it very well just follow the instructions because you have to edit one of the install files so that it will install drivers for the ICH7R and not ICH7M.
This does in fact work I did it myself for P5W DH DELUXE and it worked flawlessly. XP still loaded about the same time but the explorer is a bit more responsive. I haven't tried games like BF2 yet. Word of warning, you have to put "ONBOARD IDE OPERATE MODE" (found in the IDE Configuration of your bios) to Compatibility mode then below that select S-ATA (forget what it's called). This is what I did and it work flawlessly. I am sure keeping your "ONBOARD IDE OPERATE MODE" to Enhanced mode may work as well but that's not what I did.
After you reboot with the drivers installed you can download Intel's chipset Identifier to make sure you are in AHCI.
Please note:
Use this method if XP refuses to install AHCI drivers when you attempt to update the driver within device manager!
