you did revert to stock before installing right?

Ace.....bad Vista DVD's are circulating around.....I will try vista in a week or 2 and let you know if I can get it to install
Im running Vista 32 ultimate system builder version with no problems. I am still running the bios the board shiped with and i have been running a 6750 at 450 fsb mem 1:1 for a week now with no problems. I havent got it stable over 450 yet but havent really been trying either.
i had problems with dissapering drives on the micron controller (ide), it stopped once i upper the sb voltage
Yeah over 450 I start having problems with my raid 1, and random crashing when i use the dvdrom. A bump in the sb volts would prolly fix that up but I plain on replacing this chip with the 8500 so I shouldnt need more then 450 anyway.
i guess it is the disc and the board bios...i have bumpred the SB and NB voltages way high...it's really weird...i can start doing tasks in vista desktop and bam, it just freezes...i haven't tried true stock speed but i will give that a shot...BUT...that ain't going to cut it if i am stopped from overclocking!
i might have to buy another OEM vista disc...we'll see....will let you know how stock speed works out.
the next thing i could try is running vista setup on my Areca card with two drives to see if i get the same thing...i can't wait for the excitement to start on that!!!:D...i spent all day yesterday trying to make this work...gave up just before midnight!
@Ace
Did you try vista without the areca contoller?
I am now running vista64 and 2 samsung f1's with the onboard raid controller.(raid0) Had bluescreen and lockup problems before with both areca and 3ware controllers. After a hussle with permanent hd activities on vista i am now satisfied. ( they came mainly from the vss service ). I have the gskills you have and running the machine q6600@9x400.
Bios is 12/18
Is the UT X38 for sale anywhere yet? What does it have to offer over the LT X38?
AFAIK it will never be for sale, only the LT version. the only difference is that the UT is orange and has a heatpipe
yes, it was the first thing i did; use the intel raid chipset...i tried all combinations...i guess i will buy an upgrade vista ultimate disc which comes with a 32 and 64 bit discs...do you know the trick on installing an upgrade disc on a hard drive that does not have any OS?:) ..i do!;)
XP works flawlessly at 4400 mhz...can even install it at that mhz...it's the bios and OEM disc that is not compatible...the vista OEM disc works just fine on asus P5B and my Abit IP35 Pro.
the GSkill is a good buy for 8gb's...AND...you can overclock another 200+ points.
i think that i am going to dump this board and go back to the Pro....this board has worn me out.:(
hey guys, is it possible that if you increase the cpu vtt and nb voltage it becomes less stable?
I had it priming for 2hrs then it failed so i increased the vtt and nb voltage and now it fails in first 15mins.. why is this?
what voltage are u running, i have 1.5nb and 1.6vtt
I had mine as
CPU - 1.3
VTT - 1.4
NB - 1.36
Now that i lowered the vtt one notch its priming agian for 20mins and counting
Btw this is with cpu at 400x9
Just got a new quad and its amazing
Hello,
I'm owner of DFI LP P35 board and I think it was a good buy... Now I'm facing a new deal - I need to buy another mobo, when i bought the P35, the X38 one wasn't aviable, so now I'm facing the problem which to choose.
If this, I'm gonna choose HD3870s in cross, if P35, the GTS 512.
But - is it worth to buy this (more expensive) board? I read all the thread and haven't found any answer for this question...
I was thinking bout the Maximus Formula one, but I fell in love with DFI... :)
Thanx for replyes!
PS: Sorry, I'm not a native English speaker.
the maximus will give an easier oc the dfi will be a pain until u figure it out (looks like u have since u have the p35) and once u understand the boards issues it will give u a better oc in the end
u also get 3 pci-e16x slots (2 16x2.0 and 1 4x electrical) so u could run 3 cards when CCC 8.1 is out
At home, I have both DFI and ASUS boards - DFI P35, ASUS P965 (P5B Dlx) and P35 (Blitz Formula) so I know the BIOS structure and complexity.
But, do you think, the X38 is better than P35? Anyway I'm almost decided - X38 T2R...
x38 is better with multi gpu and the pci-e2 bandwidth and 2 fill pci-e2 16x slots hlp with that, but the p45 is out this month and it will have 2 pci-e2 8x slots and the ich10r SB so that might be what u want if price is a concern it will probly be $160-200
I don't care about the price.
One more question - will the heatpipe set from P35 board fit onto the X38 one?
the heatpipe is a downgrade but the transpiper for the PWM might help
pls could someone guess, what can i achieve with this board and 4x2Gb sticks on powerchip (like g.skill f2, ocz reaper x etc)?
Can someone confirm the compatibility of this mainboard with an Enzotech Ultra-X (concerning the NB-HS)?
comming from gigabyte p35 and owning a x38-dq6 for 3 weeks
i can say i love the board
when i got the board p35 was only 40$ cheaper so was worth it for me
but i dont see any big advantage over the p35 for now
need some bios updates to get better
when i clocked 4 sticks 1200+ on this board it just showed me it has potential
my board (bios) stinks to high heaven!
i wasted $250 to buy a new vista disc and it's the board and bios that is keeping me from having a stable vista...this sucks big time...NO MORE oscar wu...disappoint me only once and the bad mark last forever!
i got suspicious when Brother was selling bios chips...DFI users must have a high failure rate for whatever reasons...i took the battery out to clear cmos and then moved the RTC jumper to let it sit overnight for about 8 hours...put it all back together this morning and all my settings were gone from the CMOS Reload section..expected!...so...i played with some of the genie settings...it went out of parameters and i don't know why...it gave me the memory beep out of range but i didn't touch any memory settings...i powered down and then powered up and low and behold my CMOS RELOAD settings were all restored...how it do THAT!...i cleared all that stuff out overnight!!!
WELL...I GIVE UP with this DFI board...going to sell this baby at a good discount...it will be posted up soon in this forum...back to my IP 35 Pro board where stress free and hassle free is the nickname of the PRO board...AND...it runs vista without a hitch overclocked to its fullest!;)
I don't have the faintest idea why the Reloaded settings would have appeared to be gone after clearing the CMOS. The fact that your settings reappeared is what should always happen. The Reloaded settings are not stored in the BIOS chip. The utility required to wipe those settings is not available to the public. Once settings are stored the only thing the user can do is overwrite them.
but those settings were gone after resetting the 2 jumpers back to normal...they didn't come back until after i got the memory out of tolerance beeps...my reloaded settings were all gone...everything was blank and suddenly they are there after powering down from the beeping memory out of tolerance sound.
tell me what the RTC is for on page 16 of the manual...it is right next (parallel) to the CMOS jumper...it reads like it resets those settings when the battery is out and jumper set just like you are clearing the cmos.
strange, very strange, WEIRD board!...could be the QX9650 causing it to act weird...the DTS temp readouts are defective, IMO...going to take a $200 hit to replace the CPU with clubit.com...the reason for the $200 hit is that i recycled the packaging...darn!...wish i wasn't so green!:D;)
EDIT:...thought you should know that intel won't honor their warranty when it comes to DTS readings...this tech support guy said, don't worry about the temps...no need to track them if you overheat...the board will shutdown automatically once it receives the signal from the processor...DO YOU BELIEVE THAT!
