yes. they will run up to 225-230ish @ 2.5-3-3

Will they tell u what tref to use @ 300 fsb, or what drive strength to try ? or what bios out of the 20 available is the best? The OCZ - GSkill guys are here doing the exact same things we are doing. OC'ing the crap out of our systems. Most tech support rather its Email, Live chat or phone, will not tell u how to do this stuff. Maybe i'm wrong about Crucials tech support, I've never actually called them, but i dont think they'd be much help in the OC'ing department.

Good points, nugzo. But keep in mind that Micron/Crucial is a huge company that can easily survive without catering to the extreme overclocking community. Could OCZ and G.Skill? I was just taking a look at Micron's latest financial statement; $4.8 billion in sales over the last 12 months. They spend more than a half billion dollars each year on research and development. Micron has a huge customer base and of course makes other things besides memory. Although it would be nice to have a Crucial rep around, I think we represent a micro-percentage of Micron's customers.

Good point indeed and since I have a personal account rep for down here in South FL, I can tell you if end user/reseller needs support it is there in english in the USA. I know OCZ is also but G.Skill? I don't know much about them but I thought they were entirely out of the country as I couldn't find much support info. Given that most ram is lifetime warranty I'd like to know I can pickup the phone and get replacements very fast. Especially because my PC is also used for more than just one thing.

It is kind of like Intel catering to overclockers and gamers, that is a very insignificant % of their revenue, just like Dell has 70-80% revenue in business, Intel's business revenue I would like to think is probably higher than that. Businesses don't do overclocking and other extreme things it is nonsense for them to do so. When I talked to our purchasing manager the other day I asked her about OCZ etc and she explained we only use major brands like Samsung, Micron, Kingston etc because that is what is tested for server boards etc.

My only major gripe about Crucial is their website which is a jumbled mess IMO. When I went to order my Ballistix online, I thought I had to go through the step-by-step process to determine motherboard compatibility, etc. Then it suddenly dawned on me that all I had to do was hit the Ballistix Memory tab near the top of the page and voila, the entire list of modules appeared.

True that did get me at first too, but when I asked our rep about it they want to ensure compatibility and that's how they guarantee your money back if it isn't compatible. Not many places take back non-defective ram due to compatibility at least online places, and if they do there is most of the time a restocking fee.

Anyway, I'm certainly not complaining about the modules I got. No matter what stability test I throw at them, they perform like champs. Been running them at 290 with 2.8v (2.86v in BIOS) for daily usage and they don't seem to even break a sweat.

I love these modules!
However, my X2 is a bum overclocker, especially for the cooling that I am running it on.
Time to ebay it soon and try my luck again!

What settings work for one setup usly dont work for every ones setup. _ _ Z is OK I suppose, but I tend to shy away from their BIOS and setting recommendations, they usly dont work for me. I seem to be able to arrive at my own reasonably well. All I was trying to get across was _ _Z and Mushkin dont have the corner on the tech support market.

To me the best tech support is here in the forums, and comes from OCer's, not OCing mempeddler reps. :)

The Ballistix Z503 modules are 2.8V stock.. i don't think keeping them at 2.9 long term is a problem.

Lower volts? Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2x1GB

Hey guys I know this sounds strange but recently I started retesting my CPU and RAM again due to some wierd things at 2.75 on a 4400+ 250 HTT so I lowered to 246 HTT 3-3-3-8 and had 1 error in test 4, with this ram testing OK at 282 and up to 289 with high volts I just don't get it, so I kept at 246 HTT and rechecked again the specs on crucial's site, 3-4-4-8 and 2.8v are the printed specs. Moved volts to 2.8 got 12 errors in memtest86, went to 2.7v got 4 errors during pass 1. Then just out of curiosity thinking it wouldn't work right I went to 2.5v! Ran 2 full passes no errors and 4 more passes of just test 4 where I had the error. Does this make any sense whatsoever?

yeah, makes sense, it's a heat issue most likely. I'm running my ran at 2.5 volts 0 errors.

He is using active cooling so i dont think its heat. Ive experienced strange things with balliastix and voltage. Ballistix reacts to voltages different than any other memory ive OC'd. :confused:

think of the chips like the new amd cores, majority just don't like high volts and heat scales up fast. Even on phase, you still see a rapid jump in temp on the 64 9nm cores and more volts don't net u more mhz.. prob the same thing going on here.
