Anyone who know if the new Intel E8600 works with this Asus P5W DH Deluxe board?
I have the latest bios installed with an Intel E8500 CPU.
That's the million dollar question.
E8600 may be a decent upgrade for even owners of the older revisions of P5WDH (who may be forced to use auto Vcore), since I think there early reports of retail E8600 getting 4.0ghz on default Vcore, which even the FSB limited P5W might be able to eek out.
It's just too bad that the current BIOS makes it questionable for many of us (with boards before 1.03) to upgrade to the arguably better value overclockers like E8500. Speaking of which, Ragdd, do you know which board revision you have and do you get manual Vcore options below 1.45V?
I have the 1.03g revision of the board.
Will have a look at the BIOS of the vcore settings when I'm home.
Thanks, this will be especially interesting then since you have 1.03. We know for sure that 1.04 boards can get the full range of manual Vcore settings for these CPUs, while 1.01 and 1.02 boards seem to get a min. of 1.40 or 1.45V.
In a recent thread at the ASUS forums someone said they talked to tech support about the problem, and that a techie sent them a photo of a BIOS screen proving that proper Vcores were possible on the P5WDH with the latest BIOS. But the techie admitted the board revision was 1.04 and that he 'couldn't find' an older revision to test..
Whats the latest revision of the Asus P5W DH Deluxe board?
1.04? I thought the 1.03g was.
Previous I had the 1.02 version.
I sold them and bought the 2x 1.03g version boards to be sure it was compatible with the Intel C2D 6850 processor which runs at 1333 FSB.
Now I have 2 x E8500 Wolfdale with this board.
Also is it true that the P5W DH Deluxe are end of life?
My supplier says that the P5W DH Deluxe board isn't been sold anymore.
There also the P5W board which is a P5W DH Deluxe without the wireless and remote controll addons.
Also whats are the requirements to run the E8600 CPU.
What vcore do they require and is a BIOS update requirered?
I run everything a stock speed, no overclocking.
Could you give me the thread url on the Asus website?
Why you so afraid to set minimal 1.45V on 45nm CPU, that can be set by old revision of P5W? With vdrop really it`s only about 1.41v. It`s not so high, due to Intel specs they say about 1.45V as maximal vcore on Wolfdale and Yorkfield (it`s real 1.45V, so it`s about 1.49V if you set on P5W). Many retail vendors sell factory overclocked systems even with 1.5-1.6V clocked QX9650. And also to overclock 45nm CPU just over 4GHz often needed about 1.5V. My E8500 works at 1.4V at 4GHz and at 1.5V at 4.2GHz on P5W. I think better to change to LGA1366 board this winter, then to change from old P5W revision to newer or to other X38 or similar board.
Well, that depends. What temperatures do you (or would you) get under load with a E8400/E8500 at 4.0ghz and 1.45V if you are using a quiet CPU fan (1000-1500rpm)? I am guessing it gets pretty hot and might not be a workable configuration 24/7.
On the other hand, if people are getting 4.0ghz with default Vcore on the E8600, that might be feasible with a quiet air cooling solution.
I have Thermaltake BigTyphoon 120VX with fan at 1300rpm, which is rather quiet. All programs say wrong temperatures, some say about rather high about 70 *C, but ASUS Probe2 says about 30-40*C, I think it's true, copper tubes of cooler are not hot.
I have 2 x P5W DH Deluxe revision 1.04g.
My previous P5W DH Delxue were 1.03g revision.
I can set with the latest bios vcore manually between 1.7000V and 1.5250V.
So a E8600 will run on it?
Thanks for this info. Just to be sure I understand you: You have a CPU fan at 1300rpm air cooling your E8500 @ 4037GHz with 1.4V Vcore. And the higest temperatures you have seen, measured by the temp diode in the CPU core and under full Orthos load, are 70C? If so, do you remember which program (or could you try one of these): Real Temp, Core Temp?
For some reason whenever I have my usb cable plugged into my pc from my printer my pc takes an extra minute or two to boot, anyone know how to fix this thanks
I'm still wondering about the reliability of temperature sensing software on the 45nm CPUs. I have the Freezone Elite set to 24C yet my highest temp is 48C or so at idle. When I read reviews of the best air coolers, which normally aren't much better or worse than the Elite, they say 35C or so at idle.
I haven't had GREAT luck with any cooler, since during the summer the temps creep up. I don't want to run the A/C at 70F when 80F is just a touch more economical, but there are days I think about it.
I'm watching this discussion closely. I want to try getting at least stock speed out of the Q9450, but I'm not interested in destroying it in the process. The E6300 never needed more than AUTO vCore to get an extra 1Ghz, so I'd prefer that someone at ASUS fix the dang BIOS so it offers like 1.25V or 1.3V to EVERYBODY...
guys up to how many sata port can you use in p5w dh?
it seems that i can only use
the 3 near the south bridge
and one ez raid on the right coz when i use both even i enable it on bios it doenst detect the one on the left
also i noticed the one near the processor is a little bit slow let say only 1-2mb/sec on the hdd tach but when i put the hdd on the other slot it goes upto 219+
I use 5 SATA harddisks in non raid (AHCI)
3 x Intel sata
1 x bottom right sata port
1 x Jmicron sata port

So has anyone tested the new BIOS for a 45nm vCore fix?...
New bios-2801 has been released!
ftp://anonymous@ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/...eluxe-2801.zip
anyone tried 2801? any change?
I installed 2801, but can't see changes. Multiplier is steel not working on 45nm.
I test today at 4208MHz and 1.425V, Real Temp shows 65-70, CoreTemp always 10-15 above RealTemp. ASUS Probe2 maximum was about 40. Copper tubes and above CPU hot is something more than my hand. I think it's real 40 on CPU, core maybe only some degrees more.
My other system with A64 3400+, which shows same 60-70 temperatures, is very hot, than I touch Zalman copper tubes.
Has anyone tried new BIOS 2801? XD :D
I installed the 2801 bios on both my Asus P5W DH Deluxe revision 1.04g.
Next week I have my E8600 CPU.
Nothing special with de 2801 bios, I don't overclock.
