**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

You people were so helpful, I wanted to update you on my upgrade attempt.

1) Updated to 18.zzz.... very successful.

2) added a samsung 830 SSD 128gb drive. No problems.

3) added 4gb memory module kit to match the existing memory on my computer. Problem, my system would not boot. I did not even get a video single. I tested all four sticks with memtest86 and they all passed. I even was able to boot with 3 sticks but not will all four memory slots pobulated. Then I proceeded to destroy one of my memory sticks by dropping it on the floor. that has the end to trying to get 8gb of memory on my system.

4) I migrated to win 7 x64. Problems, the installation went well, but now I can't update the OS via windows update. I am trying to get that issue resolved via windows seven forum.

5) Replaced my 8800GTS 512 video card with a MSI GTX560 Ti card. No problems.

As soon as I can resolve my OS issues I will be happy. Thank you all for your help.


PS: Should I try to upgrade my memory again, any thoughts on the possible issues?

Was your memory all 1.8v? I ran 4x2GB DDR2-800 1.8v Corsair sticks I got for $30 after rebates total without a problem.

2.1 volts is ridiculous. The JEDEC spec voltage for DDR2 is 1.8 volts. Get 8GB of DDR2-800 1.8v RAM and it will work fine.

I will try your suggestion, if I can get my hand on some inexpensive memory. Will the 4gb make a noticeable difference? I was also thinking of upgrading to quad core, specifically a q9450. What has held me back so far is the cost. on ...bay they are selling for about $110.00.

I ran a Q9400 and 8GB of RAM in my abit IP35 Pro and was happy with the speed - I would have no problem running that set up for a couple more years should I need to, but I've since upgraded to an Ivy Bridge i5 system.

If you can obtain a quad core and 8GB of RAM for relatively inexpensive ($150 or less I'd say), I think it would be a worthy investment if you plan on squeezing out a couple more years out of your IP35 Pro based system, especially now that you've upgraded to an SSD.

That is exactly what I am trying to do. I would like to get another two years of my current setup. When I priced out a new system while still trying to re-use my power supply, monitor and case, I was still over $1K. Questions: the q9450 has 12mb of cache, the q9400 only has 6mb. I looks like prices are about $20-$30 difference. Should I hold out for a q9450?

I'd hold out for a Q9450, yes. Might as well get the best CPU you can if you're going to hold out for the next two years.

Hi, just ran into an issue I hope you can help me with. I created a repair disk for windows 7. I want to make sure it worked. To test it I went into my bios and set SATA CDROM as my first boot devise. I saved the changes and tried to boot form the disk. It went strait past the disk and booted form my C: drive. After 4 attemps, for the hell of it I tried booting from my floppy, after changing the first boot devise and it worked. It immidately took me to my A: prompt.

I have two DVD drives on my system, both four years old, one is a LG and the other a lite-on. Both work fine during normal operations. The resent upgrade to windows 7 was via one of these DVD drives. All my drives are running in AHCI mode and my bios are 18.zzz.

I normally backup my hard drives with Acronis. If you can boot via a DVD drive the backups do not do me much good. Am I missing something obvious?

You must select the specific optical drive name in the boot selection options. It should be at the bottom.

Just got this board but im having problems with it. It come with 4gig of crucial Ballistix memory. 1066Mhz the setting should be 5-5-5-15. 2.ov but its not showing up as that. How to i change it in the bios to make it run at that speed ? It also has a Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 should i just leave that set on auto.

Just go into the BIOS and change it? The BIOS probably just doesn't recognize the memory and it's corresponding timings/voltage. F1 on boot I believe...

I have an IP35-Pro, Q6550, 8gb (4x2gb) OCZ PC2-6400, 5 sata drives and 2 DVDs, plus the stock stuff. It came with, and I am still running, BIOS #14. I have been running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit for some time now with no problems. Now I just ran into a problem! I wanted to install/use Windows XP Mode/Windows Virtual PC. When I went to install it, I got a message that "You cannot install or start Windows XP Mode or other virtual machines in Windows Virtual PC if hardware-assisted virtualization is unsupported or disabled in Windows 7." There appeared to be no place in the BIOS to turn it on.

So I downloaded and installed your latest BIOS compilation; 18ZZZ. It gave me the virtualization parameters, but gave me THIS problem! I cannot use 2 of my 2gb DIMMS in slots 2 & 4. 1 & 3 work fine, and run in dual mode like before. I even went so far as to test several different combinations of sizes and configurations, using either one or both of matched pairs of dimms, in sizes from 256mb to 2gb (all OCZ). Either as single, or dual, only slots 1 & 3 will not give errors. ANY dimm into slot 2 or 4 yeilds startup error (beeps and a tight loop of “83–90–98–99”, turns off, then on after about 3 seconds, and tries the same. Over and over.

I also tried every other BIOS available past #14. ALL yield the memory issue, and only 18ZZZ fixed the virtualization issue.

So I went back to my stock #14 BIOS, and am now running as before, with all memory, but no virtualization.

Any ideas/help you can provide will be GREATLY appreciated!

I have run 4x2GB Crucial DDR2-800 sticks, 1.8v. I don't remember the timings.

To change timings, write down the SPD information and change the corresponding information in the CMOS setup and ensure voltage is set properly. I don't remember the exact names of the items in the CMOS setup, sorry.

Are your RAM sticks all 1.8 volts?

Sorry for lack of replies everybody, I no longer have a computer in my household with this board, I gave it to my girlfriend. It is still running 24/7 at full load (Folding@Home) with a Q9300 and 8GB DDR2-800 1.8v sticks running W7 64 without a hitch. No overclocking ever.

I will re-add this thread to my bookmarks to monitor it better.

New Realtek HD Audio drivers (driver version change only, Realtek's own driver version of R2.70 did not increment), JMicron storage driver, and Intel Chipset drivers. Maybe Realtek LAN too, I don't recall what version it was at when I last updated the driver list.

Drivers:

• Intel Chipset 9.3.0.1026 NEW!
  EXE & ZIP formats
  These drivers are unnecessary if you're running Windows Vista or newer as they contain all necessary chipset drivers for our board. If you would still like to run Intel's drivers, you can update Intel system devices through Device Manager by pointing them to an extracted installation directory of these drivers, but I don't think there is any benefit to doing so.
• Intel Rapid Storage Technology 10.8.0.1003
  Setup download | Floppy (driver only) download
  32-bit and 64-bit floppy files for use during Windows XP or Server 2003 installation, or for manual installation through Device Manager on all versions of Windows: here
  These drivers are only necessary if you're running the onboard Intel storage controller in AHCI/RAID mode (see here to enable AHCI if running Windows 7 or Vista). This version of Intel RST is the final supported version for the abit IP35 Pro due to its use of the ICH9R chipset, which Intel has deemed obsolete.

The latest BIOS compilation is still current. Neither Realtek nor JMicron have released new option ROMs, and Intel dropped support for the ICH9R chipset in their Rapid Storage Technology ROMs ages ago so the ROM 8.5.0.1030 and the driver 10.8.0.1003 WHQL are the final versions which will work with the abit IP35 Pro.

Not to necro an old (but excellent) thread, but was needing some help. I still have the IP-35P based system, and it's time I got another GPU. The HD4870/512 is starting to show signs of burn-out. Any suggestions for a new model that's similar to (or faster than) 4870 but with say 1GB VRAM for a larger screen and not too pricey? Not sure if there is anything these days that'll fit the x16 socket.

Also, is it a good idea to upgrade to Win7 on this rig, along with a new HDD? Do I have to update BIOS from my current 16 to 18.xx to run Win7, etc?

Windows 7 will work great. You don't need to update your BIOS, you can leave it as is. Don't have any advice regarding the GPU though, sorry.
