Not true the 1800xt is available in many stores in stock in Canada since many days.
I even saw one store with it at 600$, the gtx 512 is 840$ (lowest price i saw) and the 256 is 596$ ( I didn't find one lower...)
Of course you can find higher prices easily in most stores...

its def not a paperlaunch, but there are very limited supplies of both the 7800 ultra and the 1800xt it seems...

Also, I'm right here in Canada ;) Not an American...but I visit Newegg often as many members here DO live in the U.S. :) And plus I can search for it on Newegg and crosscheck prices on Canadian websites to see if they're reasonable...We have overpriced and non-existant hardware here iN canada as well...at least in the uk you can get a Sapphire Crossfire Board for $150 USD !!! :eek: and its in stock in Komplett...over here it'd be $250+ CDN (supposed to be $180CDN based on xchange rate) :shakes:

Availability is something out of anyone's control...and usually, company's will allocate orders where PR value and demand is best, so the usual AIBs that bring the cards here aren't always as keen on bringing them around the world on launch anyway. If ATI's stockholders see cards in US/Canada (where they have they're HQs), they'll be happy, thats one example.Quote:

They are on chillblast for £398 in stock, and way better customer service.
A lot of places have em around the 350-380 mark, if they can get stock, thats a pretty decent price.

We learned that this card including nice and fancy game pad and a famous King kong monkey game will end up at £465 inc VAT. According to a few of the usual suspect sites that we check, this is roughly £35 cheaper than any 7800 GTX 512 card. It's not much but it's something to think about. /.../ we are looking forward to see how this ATI X1800 XT OC based card can match Nvidia in games. We expect it will be close but Nvidia still might win.

Sapphire and Club3D X1800XT's can be got locally in the Baltic region as well (with prices being around those previously mentioned by the UK guys).
Probably the thing I'm most excited about at this point. Cutting encoding time was a major reason to get the X1800 XL over nvidia solutions (Amongst a myriad of other reasons both big and small). Hopefully, it will be here in December as promised.Quote:

My XT will do 690/800 stock, with fan on normal without problems, and will clock a lot higher with volts and higher fan speeds.
Unless the Overcloked card has a sweeter cooler, not much point.

On ATI and VTF ...
ATI's said in multiple interviews that they've chosen not to put it in due to transister count, they had to make choices at to what features they could provide, and they decided not to put it in. So its not like there's an empty slot for the feature on each x1k card, its that they didn't have room for it, and its up to the buyer to decide whether its a big enough issue to influence their decision.
Also, yes we know VTF is missing and its on the R500. Interesting thing though, is that the argument that ATI can't do vtf is wrong, and saying that unreal 3.0 (which uses vtf) will run crap on ati cards is a short term issue, considering that John Carmack himself stated that his primary development platform for 2006 will be the x360 and its r500, which has support for VTF and will do so for Unreal 3.0 as well. It might not be available on desktop, but its not like ATI wont have it in the future.

Every trailer, demo or public showcase was on nVidia hardware (except Xbox360 ofcourse) and we all know that Epic is in bed with nVidia....I dunno what to expect to be honest, let's just wait and think carefully on your future upgrades...I went the safe way with my 512mb GTX (hopefully) :)
