790 corruption issues?

Nothing has changed at all in bios, same settings.
I don't care what anyone says about this, all the problems are gone after I installed 2 new drives.

Just for the fun of it I reinstalled IBM drives & guess what, system went for a crap again.
Removed them & installed seagates no problems.

Yeah man the HD situation on this board is sketchy to say the least.. Check this one out my board works perfectly with my raptors in raid0 and my external connected through e-sata no problems.. Then I bought a 1TB Seagate to match my external and put it inside my system, now the computer can't read the drive in the external through e-sata only USB.. Not a big deal but it just shows that there are still a lot of issues.. I mean HD issues and also there are issues installing vista with 2 sticks of ram if you just use 1 stick vista installs perfectly BTW especially true for 64bit Vista...

thats a vista issue tho... i find this bug hilarious... the whole point of going 64bit and going vista is to be able to use more memory (or xp64, but who upgrades to xp64 nowadays...)

yet, there is a bug with vista that causes instability and corruption when you install vista 64bit with more than a certain amount of memory. so you have to put only 1 stick in, install vista, then install some patch, and then you can put in the rest of the memory...

wtg microsoft! vista sure is well thought through and very compatible :D

sad to hear about all the issues you guys report...

I can confirm I had huge problems trying to install Vista 64bit with 2X2GB of ram installed. Had to use one stick to get the os installed before trying to go to 4GB...endless BSOD's otherwise...even at drastlically reduced FSB. Wasted alot of time before I realized 2 sticks was not going cut it.

After using P05 on my EVGA 790i, the system seems much, much more stable.

I do have a question, when I run sfc /scannow, it still says I have corruption - I assume that this means I should reinstall Vista?
Also, is anyone experiencing issues with using an X-Fi on an EVGA 790i? I get a ton of crackling and distortion, especially when loading something.

If you are running overclocked it is worth setting everything back to stock and running SFC again. I have done this in the past and the errors went away!! The thing that caused real corruption for me was using 1T memory timings, when I should have used 2T.

Unfortunately, X-Fi's, 64 bit vista, and nvidia motherboards rarely play nicely together. Try a complete new install of Vista, then install each driver 1 by 1. That might solve the corruption issue and the problem with your card. Also, make sure to install with 2 gb of ram or less on the board.

issue with forceware 175.16 but not with old 174.74 specially when i use SLI.

I ran SFC last night on my stable OC of 1610mhz and it said file are corrupt can't fix blah blah. I rebooted and ran it again no change to the OC and it passed no problem. WTF?

I now question SFC's relaibility as a test of corruption.

Anyone else experience this?

I have been saying this all along(the unreliabilty of sfc).

when I run sfc, I dont even get results... lol

in XP sfc does not give you any results. It asks for the xp cd/dvd and if it determines that the files are corrupted, it replaces those files from the cd/dvd directly.

Finally, Asus has shipped my replacement S2E.

Natalia, I get this crackling too (I'm also running SLI although 2x8800GTX's, not quad-SLI) and the crackling occurs when I multi-task. If I only listen to music without doing anything else or am gaming, I don't have the crackling issue.

+1 for crackling with X-FI-pci card. I get it in games(assiassin creed opening video) I always get it when Vista fires it's start-up sound.

I thought my sound card was fried was going to order a new one...going to have to look into this further now.

Ok so you are saying that there is no way you can find out if you have corruption in XP? Is there any way cause I would like to test it out.

Then I guess you guys going to have to wait for another BIOS revision that fixes this. Is NVIDIA using the same code from 680i? Because is the same issues... pray that they dont take a year (like with the first striker) to fix x-fi issues... people had to wait all the wait to 1401 to get X-fi issue fixed and even some still had issues.

I have the exact same problems I have been notalby stable for days run sfc scan all good no corruption.. Then a couple of days later run sfc scan haven't changed anything and mysteriously I have corruption again WTF is right.. Makes no sense...:down::down::down::down::down:

Just curious guys, is it possible that something besides the actual motherboard is causing this "corruption"? I'm not trying to second guess you, I'm really curious? Maybe a driver issues, some other big of hardware, maybe a certain combination of hardware, anything like that possible? The only reason I even thought about asking is because of how random it seems to be for people, like you just mentioned Guacomole? It would drive me nuts for sure, I hope I continue to stay corruption free (fingers crossed)! Then again maybe I'm just not pushing my board hard enough?

On a different note I just finally made the switch over to 0703 and had a heck of a time getting my board to boot up afterwards! I tried just about everything but my LCD Poster just kept cycling through, CPU INIT/DET IDE/DET DRAM, over and over agian but no boot despite many manual shuts downs and CMOS clears. Finally I pulled the battery for a bit and bingo booted right up. Now sure just why that was except that maybe after the flashing process was finished some of the BIOS settings went screwy? In anycase its up and running at default speeds with no issues. I won't start any serious testing until tomorrow (got the day off thanks goodness). I'll report back with any results.

roger when the lcd poster was cycling and stopping det dram did you try using only one stick of ram? i had similar issues on my old striker extrem 680i after a bad overclock or flashing to a new bios because sometimes the bios doesnt use the correct ram voltage to power both sticks so it freezes on det dram. just my 2c

Roger 1 stick of memory only and it will reboot then you have to change the 1T TO 2T on the memory and all is good.. As far as the corruption goes I agree there might be a driver or something but man it would be really hard to put your finger on it but regardless it's an Nvidia issue.. These problems are Nvidia based problems exclusively.. I swore a long time ago I would NEVER buy another Nvidia board and I did it anyway and man I am torn because this is the best and worst board I have ever owned... Paradoxically, it performs amazing but it works like s**t... Anyway I am on bios 704 and same thing sfc scan stable for awhile reboot sfc scan fails but I am rock solid in Prime and 3D stable so whatever that is worth...

Something tells me is BIOS related the sameway 680i had issues with corruption when it first came out.
Roger, if you want you can try my settings, I can post it (including every single setting) and see if that solves anything for you or anybody else having issues.

I would greatly apprecaite that Slim142 if your up for it. Plus I think other could also benefit from it, thanks for all your hardwork and continued effort on this board, its helpful to many of us!
