Hello Brahmzy, That is a great idea and I had already concidered doing that and I will change that for sure. Thanks

How do you install a large heatsink on a P5E? I have a Scythe Ninja Rev. B and I cannot get access to one of the bolt holes that is being blocked by the aluminum fins. Can they be removed and reinstalled? Another thing is that I have to rotate it 90 degrees to fit which interrupts the airflow over the lower fins.
You guys must go watercooling :D
Well I agree with STaRGaZeR...Liquid Cooling is the best way to go. But it's not for everyone. Brahmzy is right on the money with his choice of air cooler.
I think your system should fly (pun intended) on flight simulator or any other simulator ,emulator ,game , video ripper / encoder/ photoshopper/ you should be very happy with your choice.

If you have the bucks to go watercooling, you will never go back. Don't be afraid, mount it is very easy, a kid can do it! And the perfomance is
I guess I'm afraid!!! I would not know where to start. Is there any kits that would be good? I mean I'm clueless. Could anyone give me a idea where to start? Thanks:confused:
yep , thats the only "problem" i found in this mobo , we never know what Vdim we are using :
1.86v bios = 2.0v asusuite
1.92v bios = 2.1 Asusuite
and so on ............
so if the real voltage its the one Asusuite reads if using 2.2v in bios (like you did) its very danger , you might have ~2.4v
its just a matter of someone with multimeter try to find out whats the real voltage (bios or Asusite)
right now i go for Asusite readings , im using 1.88v bios to get 2.0v

hey guys, first post, accout validation took forever :)
after some bad luck with 2 low-fsbwall p5w dh boards, i decided to take things up a notch. just ordered the P5E.
I ordered the Team TXDD2048M1066HC5DC-D 2x 1GB DDR2 PC8500 CL5 memory. some customer reviewers told me these are loaded with Micron D9 which aren't bad for clocking. what do you guys think? These were about 88 euros .. looked at gskill and such but they are overpriced here in the netherlands.
took this topic advice for cooling .. 120 extreme + scythe 120mm.. should post some nice results. just hoping my 8800GT will come in soon.
ps.. waiting out on the cpu .. can get my hands on some sexy Penryn E8400 .. so in the mean time i'll just steal the 6320 from my media center.
Guys i have the P5E too.
There´s a problem with the readings of the temperatures, it goes to -65 to 225, both the system and the cpu, what´s the problem? My bios is the 107, i was thinking to go to the 502, but reading some posts..it´s not a great bios, is it?
I think that 502 is one of the better ones.
0107 and 0502 for me are also the better ones , but all of them suks about Vdim (voltage Bios not same in Windows @ Big difference)
Btw: Here with 0502 Bios the 4:5 divider doesnt work , with 0107 its OK !
regards
mascaras .. quick question .. divider not working .. you mean as in not posting on those speeds or the speeds are incorrectly set and you have to double check them in windows ?
is it wise to replace the adhesive between the PWM/chipset coolers? I heard it's alot of trouble with one guy actually tearing his chipset of the motherboad. Freezing the board helps .. but it's a lot of trouble from what I hear...
i'm like a little boy waiting for christmas, can't wait to see the mailman with my new toys
not posting

ASUS have released a new BIOS for the P5E3
Version 0808 you can download it here
ASUS P5E3 BIOS v0808
Changes are that it officially supports QX9650 and resolves DRAM compatability issue(s)

I am new to the watercooling phenomenon.
How much does a decent system cost?
Does it create excess noise?
I can get to 3.6GHz 24/7 on my E6600 on air. What
can I expect on water?
I understand the Penryn's use less power...therefore
less heat, so perhaps the stock heatsink may be sufficient?
HAPPY MOTORING
The "-D" in the end of Team's P/N means the kit is Extreme-Dark series, it's a lower level product line than Extreme series(none Dark), but both of them are using Micron D9 chips, my rig are Extreme-Dark PC2-6400 and you can look into my sig to see how I oc them. I know it's not excellent if compared to some other brands as you saw in this thread but I am totally satisfied with them as they cost me only USD 175 for 4x1G :D, and they are able to run very stable at 1117MHz/5-5-5-15/2.24v for more then 7 hours Memtest test.
Decent system? A very good system is between 200-300$ for CPU only. Add a GPU block if you want (40-50$).
Noise? What's that? :D It only depends of what pump and fans for your radiator you choose, you can build a virtually silent WC setup without effort. Also, you can put 6 damn noisy fans and you'll get sighly better perfomance.
The advantage of water is lower temperature. Lower temperature allows you to run higher volts as temp will remain in the "safe zone". Higher volts result in more overclock as you already know :p: Lower temps at a given voltage may also give you a few more Mhz out of it.
Yes, Penryn dissipates less heat, but we are like before: lower temps = higher volts allowed = more OC.
When you want to change the socket (like when Nehalem arrives) you just have to change the waterblock, and all is perfect again.
If you want more info just go to the Liquid Cooling section, there are true Gurus there that will help you better than me for sure
ok got my new stuff today .. running all stock for now .. just wanted to sample my sexy new 8800
my P5E seems to hate my NEC IDE dvd drive .. keep getting errors when installing Vista? Tried an BenQ DQ60 .. works like a charm (so far)..
must i really go and fetch an NEC SATA drive for this board? me <3 NEC :)
I feel ashamed posting this .. running boxed cooler haha. My TR120E coming next week with my new PC8500 ram.
Anyone else having problems with the IDE controller? The RAID (2x sammie SATA on the ICH) is running without an hitch so far...
hmmm .. ok the problem could be the memory or the cpu. I'm running on some cheap-ass spare DDR2 ram and an E6320 with boxed cooler ... memtest seems to be working just great however when running prime95/prime2004.. i get errors after 2~3 minutes. checked the cpu temps with coretemp .. around 42 ~ 43 ... it don't feel hot either.
hopefully i can get my hands on some testing ram tonight.. till then I'll have to wait till my new ram + cooler get here. the cpu should be fine tough (temp. till penryn)
sorry about the confusing with the IDE drive....
ps. wanted to add .. when testing in prime 2004 with less-RAM or almost-no-RAM options, primes just fine for hours...
Gary, could I quite possible talk you into giving me your credit card?
Quicky .. not that anyone pays attention .. Thermaltake Toughpower 750W PSU .. any good? Hope so .. just bought one
