Retail Abit IN9 32X-MAX - Pictures, observations and testing...

I give up....I should have know better in the first place after the AW9D Max. Now I have two great boards with minor quirks and no future support. No more Abit for me. I've always only bought Asus until the NF7 S v 2.0. Then I stayed with Abit & Asus until DFI's NF4's. When I went to Core 2 I started with ASUS & MSI. I've owned quite a few Core 2 boards & CPU's since it release. Seems Asus products are the only one's consistently producing bios updates & fixes across their Core 2 product line. I wanted a Gamers 680i. The Evga I owned was nice, but the mouse & keyboard went haywire when I overclocked. Asus @ the time only had the striker, but now I guess I'll switch to their hybrid Nvidia board. Good Bye Abit. Even if their not for sale & all this is just rumors, one week of not being able to access a support site is ridiculous.

Hopefully only rumor, as mine is still in a box. I finally get to play with it tonight and tomorrow!

Wow, this seems to have come to a bad conclusion. :(

That may be, but over a week without being able to access the support site is crazy. One should be able to ask questions, or simply download & update drivers.

And it hasn't even been a week yet. My personal opinion is that they have some major server issues going on, and because they just recently let their webmaster go are struggling to get it fixed.....

I figured it out!!!!

Abit is revamping their ENTIRE SITE!
And come Monday, they'll have a finely honed BIOS for the IN9 that'll blow all the other 680i based boards outta the water! :banana: :woot:

That's why I quit on the DFI products, if there not going to support their base then I am not going to support them with my $$$.
This is my first Abit board since the NF7 S v 2.0. and I have used 4 of those in systems I've built. Oh, I forgot the KT7A-Raid board that is still running at my church.

How did this go from an informative thread to a "bash abit" thread?

Just as an update, I had to increase voltages to 1.4350 Cpu and 2.15 memory to have it satisfactorily orthos stable (6 hours and then I got bored) at 3.375 Ghz and 1000Mhz memory at 4-4-4-12 2T timings.

I'm at 3.4 Ghz CPU volts 1.345, but I have trouble doing anything other than Linked/Synced setting which leaves my memory at 378, good CPU overclock but memory speed leaves something to be desired....LOL

That about sums up my experience too. Whenever we get a new BIOS I'll start tweaking again.

Mine will boot fine all the way down to close to stock voltages(1.345V CPU and 2.1V ram), but when I want it to run orthos stable I have to turn up the voltages to the settings above.

Try linked and synced and I think you will find you can run a lot less vcore and a good bit higher on the cpu. I'm unlinked now and keeping memory in the low 900's to try and keep it out of the equation...which is working to this point. Priming at 3616 right now coming up on 2 hours at 1.48~1.49vcore (I forget which :p: ) 1.435 netted 3.5 at 16+ hours of orthos...

The .05 droop is a bit much 2 me. I have to set 1.4950v in bios to stay above the 1.440v I've previouslt tested my cpu on. This spikes up to 1.52v at times when idle. Make the cpu run a little warmer than I like. I've yet to get orthos to pass more than four hours @ 400FSB on my E6400 or E6600. I've placed the board in the Antec 900. Cable management it going to be a real challenge without mods, & the Tuniq Tower is not gonna work the way I'd hoped with this case. I still really like the board though :)

I am running my X6800@3750Mhz but it will fail Orthos in seconds, but play every game and App I use and is stable as a rock? I have my VCore @1.5105and yes it fluctuates alot. My cpu never goes over 60c and the PWM 's stay in the high 50's under load. Any suggestions to get it stable in Orthos? Increase multiplier and lower FSB? I am a total noob OC'ing these C2D's.

Memory bandwidth or CPU speed?
I can get my memory to run at it's rated speed and get a bandwidth of 6782 but when I try to go for a higher CPU speed above 3.0 the bandwidth goes to $hit.
I don't like crashing so I'm sticking at 3.0 using a multi of 9X and memory @ 1143 unlinked til a new bios is available, whenever that may be.
To all who are running higher CPU speeds...... what kind of bandwidth are you getting?

I've seen a lot of people saying that....weird. I'm beginning to wonder how accurate Orthos is with this board/cpu/memory some people are using.

I don't doubt that, and I may actually be able to increase the cpu speed with the current settings. I just picked a good easy setting and tested and retested until I got it stable. I don't know really which will benefit me more though, running 100 mhz higher on the memory with fairly tight timings or running the cpu another 100-150 mhz. I am not really out for all out overclocking superiority with the cpu(especially on air). I just like things to run a bit faster than stock and be both reliable and stable. I may try for an additional little bit of speed from the cpu (just to break the 3.4 Ghz barrier) but I am fairly satisfied with my results for being such a complete noob when it comes to overclocking (this is literally my first build and my first overclock...I have 4 days of experience...).

Just to keep everyone in the loop on what I did:
I started out with factory settings on everything except the ram which I immediately set at 2.1V after reading on here and 1.4V HT which I also read on here. From there I went into the bios and upped the cpu voltage until it would boot. Then, I went into uGuru and kept upping the cpu voltage until I saw an increase in stability. When I saw a glimmer of hope, I upped (one at a time) all the other voltages looking for more time stable in orthos. None of the other settings ever seemed to increase the stability, so I kept trying higher cpu voltages until about 1.425 that seemed to be a peak (stability seemed to fall off above this voltage) and so I kept this and tried to increase other voltage settings. This led to finding increased stability at 2.125 and then 2.150 volts vdimm. This was not entirely stable and so I increased voltage to 1.435 and that is how I got to where I am. I literally tried 40-50 different settings one at a time being careful and taking notes. If anyone has any suggestions of how to boost my numbers without giving high temps (would like to stay under 50 celsius on the processor and 60 celsius on the pwms, both of which I am very close to currently under full load for extended periods of time) I am open to them. I appreciate everyones help and your suggestions Old Guy. Good luck to everyone, but my story goes to show, that even relatively inexperienced people can have some fun with these boards.

I am soooo pissed right now, got everything hooked up and blew a fuse on my Mach II at 945pm on a Sunday. Ugh, how I wanted to tweak tonight!!! No Radioshack until 9am tomorrow! I even tried a 24hr Autozone, but no small fuses to fit. :(

Please remember that they have their hollidays in TW up to 26 of Feb......:) ;)

Many of you have overcome some big challenges on this board... big kudoz for big efforts... I have hopes and I have all the parts ready to go. I Will build a custom pwm block and start mods when I see the Abit forum back up. So, my questions are... did they bite off more than they can chew? Can we unlock the quad? Will the board handle the new quad at 333 (the upcoming 1333FSB (Quad Pumped) quad core processors will require the 333FSB)... What is your vote...

PS... If the Abit forum is down much longer I am switching to another board... Admin or no admin they should have a "watch" post.
