Testing / comparing : Intel D975XBX2 / Asus P5B DX ***56K WARNING***

hey all, got a QX6700 + Corsair 6400C4 + XBX2 Rev 3 +Bios 2395

I've attached 4 pics instead of 1 as it was more than 200k and the zip was 202...:mad: :mad:

CPU seems to be orthos stable after 1hr 47m @ 3466 (13 * 266)

However it would only go stable with 1.5V - VCMH and the rest default.

I tried playing around with FSB but not very successfully. I managed to get into windows with 9 * 350 @ Default strap so mem @ 525 (1050mhz) but could not even go though prime 1mio. At this stage to get into windows i had to increase FSBV to 1.375 + ICH/MCH to 1.675 (mem running at 2.2V)

I'm a bit confused as to what is generally the best oclock people have achieved with QX6700 :confused:

Default settings and 14*266 no matter how much i increased volts; all around; was a no go. I get the annoying blablabla could not post press y to get into bios or n to etc.etc.

I think that this is bios related as i am prety sure that i could get into windows with 14*266 using 2333 - anybody else has same issue?

Generally I'm thinking that i would like the memory to work @ or around the 1000Mhz mark and the CPU @ or above 3.5Ghz - Just can't seem to get it rite at the minute .. :mad: :mad:

any suggested settings much appreciated!

BTW I can't seem to be able to find how much watts the onboard fan headers can cope with.

I've got some tornado + delta fans i'd like to connect and i'm not sure if the mobo will take it.

bios 2333, i havent tried 2395 yet. I heard that 2395 was not as good as 2333 for OC, but then again we would need proofs ...

timings are tighter on the 1066 strap in 2395. Better performance around 380fsb and under but the strap won't take you as high. As soon as I finish with 2395 timings and performance, i'll flash back and check to see the difference.

Want to share my result and have a question at the end.

Got my 3060 rig up and running last weekend finally. One warning: Scythe Ninja does NOT fit on this board! I had to file down the clip so it wont touch the resistors.

And unfortunately, my cpu was pretty badly concave. So I had to lap it. First time doing this. So it was a lot of work just to get the rig to boot.

Then I notice my cpu is STILL not making good contact with the Ninja. Seems like the Ninja isn't seated flat against the cpu. I think I know how to fix it, will have to try it this weekend. So unfortunately trying a straight jump to 400 FSB resulted in 70+ degrees really quick and the rig shut down itself.

So before I can fix the contact, I've been running the FSB to 334. Didn't need to increase any voltages yet, so there seems to be promise if I can fix the contact and thus lower the temp. The board seems to be very nice and solid. Besides the reset jumper and incompatibility with Ninja, I don't have any complaints. ;)

My questions are: I tried to stress test using BurnInTest. load temp with 3.0ghz ran around 60. However when I popped TAT up and changed the CPU load to 100%, temp shot up to 70+ REAL quick. Apparently there are different levels of 100% CPU load...go figure. :rolleyes: My question is, I'm only looking for a decently stable system that won crash if I run a game and have a few programs open/running. Is doing the BurnInTest enough to test "normal" stability?

Also I'm having a lot of trouble with Memset. I read a few members advise to lower tRFC's default of 42. setting it as high as 28 still reboots me right after I get into Windows after making a nasty zap sound. I'm wondering should I bother messing with it and why can't I go any lower? I have OCZ Plat Rev2 OCZ2P800R22GK on pretty loose timing.

The mobo seems to me a bit erratic. Every now and then it gets hangup just after posting with the message that "could not boot pls press y to enter bios or n to to continue with the last settings" (or smthng in those lines) - the issue is that even if you select settings that you know work; it will not go past posting.

U have to chuck out the plug and then everything is back to normal.

From what I understand burn in and TAT are using 2 very different ways to get the CPU to full load. Burnin is probably making the CPU do calculations where as TAT can possibly go as high as forcing idle transistors to cycle on and off. TAT probably has no actual error checking built into it and is just forcing heat generation on the chip so isn't really a stability test but more a worst case high load heat dissipation test.

I don't know how BurnIn checks for errors. But if you want to check stability you need something that is running calculations and checking for errors in output. SP2004 orthos is normaly the best.

I don't know what to tell you about your RAM get everything working stock and play with the BIOS adjustable timings first before you go digging through the ones in memset. those are set by the chipset strap and memory divider.

I noticed that too, are you using 2395? If so I think that is the beginnings of Intel trying to add a more graceful way to recover from a bad overclock. It seems that it is still a bit buggy though.

yep using 2395.. thinking of going back to 2333; i'll try to push the 4ghz mark first though

hi everyone it is my first post here after frustrating issues with the EVGA board which included frying my Corsair 8500 Dominator C5D i decided to get the BX2 after reading this informative thread

my questions is in regard to settings my CPU is E6600 my memory is Corsair 8500 C5D 1066 and i have a swiftech H20 220 cooling the cpu so i am fine as far as heat goes. i have been in AMD land for the past several years and new to intel so if anyone could offer some pointers on the settings i could use to get the most out of this setup i will really appreciate the help, if nothing else i would like to know how the bootstrap function work i can get my cpu running a 3.6 no problem but the frequency of the memory is 400 when i know it can do 533 as it did on the EVGA board, anyway thanks for any suggestions.

may i ask what is the max selectable FSB using the latest bios 12/20 for badaxe2?

i am using 2333 not the 2395 i have not gone past 400 fsb as i tried and got to reset the bios something to do with how i was setting the memory that is the part i need help with understanding how the memory is setup on this board

Do I need crap low voltage ram to make this board work? I get a memory error post code with any config of my 5300 ballistix and 6400 2gbhz. Spend 5 hours modding case and setting board up only to receive no post :(

in other boards if you place one stick..you can often boot then adjust vdimm and add 2nd stick

Has anybody else seen the following two issues?

1) No Blinking Power LED when in StandBy Mode - I think Bad Axe 1 had a BIOS setting for this but I see no such option in the Bad Axe 2 BIOS.

2) Loss of External HDD connected via Firewire after waking up from StandBy, or sometimes when the External HDD spins down.

Can these please be reported to Intel?

afireinside: I just finish a seventh build with this board. All have been ver. 504 & 505 and haven't seen any memory issues... From corsair 5400 value to g.skill HZ's (6400) have been fine... Good luck with it, it is a rock-me-up board...

I shoved my Super talent DDR2 800 4-4-3-8 2.2v in and it booted with no problem at the normal low voltage of 1.84 I think. It set my timings to 5-5-5-15 but booted. Try a mixture of an a crucial and a g.skill?

but i can tell you that moving along the different dividers does alter the extended latency settings just like the strap change did. attached is a bit more extended table. You can see that bumping up the strap did raise some of the timings back to where they were on the 1333 strap, but the overall bandwidth and latency went down because of the increase in ram speed. I'll get the other dividers for the higher straps this weekend.
