hmmm. Annoying.
thanks for your help anyway!
There seems to be a couple of threads on the offical ASUS forum for the P5W about this, and those have gone unanswered too.

What is the proper configuration for configuring a Q9300 with P5W DH Deluxe? There is no multiplier for 7.5 but just 7 and 8. and for the fsb is it 333?
7.5 will be automatically set by CPU, fsb 333
So I think you have problems with memory, not with CPU. How many modules do you have and what their timings and frequirency?
If you have mostly useable pair of 2*1GB PC2-6400 or other 800MHz DDR2, then, if you use your old Q6600 (FSB266), they will work at nominal 800MHz, but then you install new Q9300, which use FSB333, you should choose new memory clock, however i975X chipset haven't an option to work together with FSB333 CPU and 800MHz memory, you can choose only 667MHz memory on overclock it to 834MHz.
Try first 667MHz, if it works then try 834MHz, it's a very small overclocking, but maybe your modules can't handle it and require setting less agressive timings (expesially if your modules are on agressive CAS CL4 mode or something that) or higher voltage.
Whats the highest that any one has got this cpu to? (Q6600) , , Also , has any one got the GTX 280 yet? im still in 2minds about getting this card,,i have a 22" monitor, will it be worth it?
Quad cores overclockes not so nice as dual cores, you can get something in range of 3-3,4GHz. Test in Prime95 10 hours or more to get fully stable mode.
I have 20" monitor with 8800GTX factory overclocked and perfomance not so nice, so GTX280 will be better, new games wanted even more powerfull cards :)
After upgrade from 7950 to GTX280 you will get very nice perfomance improvement, about 3-4 times faster.
Do you really need 8GB? I have 2GB, page file is off, but Windows XP, all games and my programs fit in 2GB.
I think try first with your 2GB, if you have swapping, add more 2GB or buy new 4GB.
You can buy cheap modules from Samsing or Hynix (about 20$ per 1GB), i975X is the most fastest chipset and perfomance will be nice.
I just tried hooking up another hard drive today, and it appears that my EZ_RAID2 sata port is not working. i tried hooking up different drives to it and couldnt get any to work, i have never used it before. Any ideas? am i doing something stupid?
hmm,,i had the same issue, not 100% what i did, jst played around with the ports,,aparently u need to install raid drivers if u want to set up all sata drives for HDDS , i got all 3 being used and used the 4th Sata next to the rear of the board under the CPU to control my DVD drive..all works well now...
will that let you have all 4 sata ports as single hard drives and not in RAID?
So i am more confused now then when i first set this machine up LOL.
I am running a raid 0 in my SATA1 and SATA3 slots using the intel chip, If i was going to run a raid 0 and raid 5 on this board i would need to run the raid 0 through the Jmicron in slots EZ_RAID2 and EZ_RAID1 and the raid 5 through the intel slots SATA1 SATA3 and SATA4 correct?
Hi i have a P5W-DH and im trying to run my e8400 on it.. the bios is 2704 and i had an e6600 in it and it worked fine.
Now when i put in the e8400 it just gets to the loading xp screen.. then it restarts. =[ Anyone have any ideas?
Hello ~
Speedfan is reporting 73C idle on one of the sensors. Could this possibly be accurate, and if so should I be concerned?
Thanks
P5W DH Deluxe MB
Q6600 @3.33
Can you find out which sensor it is? Everest Ultimate Edition will be able to tell you.
You tried reset by jumper "RTS(CMOS) Reset"? Board have strange work after CPU change.
ok so i finally got it to boot the e8400.. oc'd it.. wont budge past 380. =[

lawrywild Thanks for the tip on Everest ultimate
Although the trial version doesn't give you all the necessary readings,
I was able to figure out that the GPU was the one hitting the high 70's and thankfully not the motherboard!
Speedfan shows all the readings but doesn't associate them with the proper sensors.
Finally I can relax with accurate idea of what is really going on.
MB 43C
CPU 28C
cores 1-4 42C-47C
GPU 78C (passive cooling)
That's with the case open, now to test with fans low and under working conditions.
much appreciated
