I hate to take their defence but 18 players is more than enough if you want to play and not be in a chaos of grenades/airstrikes/missiles/sentry guns/ac130/bombers/nukes etc...,yeah they should have made the limit to 32 or 64 for those who enjoy more players on the servers (but restricting some of the killstreak rewards) cuz hell even consoles run more than 18 players without problems like PS3 for example which for resistance has a 64 players cap if I am no mistaken.

I only play low person servers... its more skill based instead of spam based

Although I will torrent this for the singleplayer i doubt i'll buy this unless it's super cheap

it depends on the map most of the maps on cod4 and 5 work with 12v12, i really hate the 3v3 and 4v4 in most pubs as it just turns into camping spawnpoints with a sniper or hiding

but atleast there is no more martyrdom

I think given the new killstreak setup large 32+ player maps will become quite crazy but there would be an easy way to deal with this IF we had dedicated servers. Make the killstreaks levels a configurable option set by the server. Nice, easy, job done.

I thought with MW2 they would have had customisable killstreaks. Kinda like perks, you get 3 slots to define what you like to use. As it is now and even with the 9v9 max limitation getting a nuke will be easy for seasoned players.

I made the achievement on MW of killing every player on the opposing team without dying....and that was a 40man server just because I had a sweet camp spot in Crash (and even saved using the chopper).

This is very interesting... Valve are actually pissing people off :rolleyes: Given how successful Steam has been for them it was only a matter of time until sparks flew though.

Well, considering Direct2Drive is selling Saints Row, which asks for Steam to install.... I don't see why they are crying this time... Oh wait, publicity :D

Lets set aside for the moment that they have set a maximum limit, which from what I have read is only for certain game types as well.

It is P2P gaming, I doubt whether the majority of connections could even support an 18 person server. Also with host migration and probable lag the turnover of people in a server is going to be far higher than we are used to seeing in CoD4.

I regularly see people playing 2 hour+ stretches on CoD4 on one server, that isn't going to happen unless you are a host with a good connection.

It's going to be funny to see the anger directed at IW once it's out and you have People on Virgin hosting a game where the ping is screwed to values of up to 4000 (yes, thats a four digit number I've got in some other game that made use of p2p (trackmania)) when p2p usage is detected and their latency tolerant:rofl: game won't be able to fix that.

What a turn of events for MW2. Many online retailers that normally allow you to download games will not be selling the PC version of MW2 because of steamworks. Many are of the opinion that they do not wish to endorse their competitors feature(s) in order to install the game. The retailers not selling the game are but not limited to:
-Direct2Drive
-Impulse
-Gamersgate

Yeah but this is an FPS and besides that i cant think of an RTS wich has 18 players.

Hosting a game for 2 or 4 players isnt a problem but when u start hosting for 18 im shure some providers wont b happy.

Specialy seeing there r stil countrys where they have data caps.

Online games depend more on latency then bandwidth. Bandwidth only becomes a factor under normal circumstances (ie, client/server) with high player count (24-64).

BTW:Killstreaks and Perks

The only reason this is true is because their maps suck, like the COD4 maps sucked. They were purposely built too small for the console crowd. COD5 maps were incredible and much more suited to PC play. Which is one reason that many PC gamers migrated to COD5.

Yes, that is true, but we talking about ISP's being upset that many of their users are starting to act as servers, but this shouldn't be a problem.

Hopefully the math is correct.

From what I have read about several other games you need about 128kbps a second upload per player to host, so for 18 players thats 2304kbps or roughly 2mbps, my upload speed is not unusual for the UK and it is 0.33mbps (3.5mbps down).

If I am right then there will not be many hosts in the UK.
