Anyways, he's using a TRUE, from what i saw, he's not using ZALMAN fans... but this thread is quite long, so maybe he mentionned it somewhere, i'm not going to look it up. From his sig, if i remember correctly, he built more than one rig, and i don't think of him as a newb, so i think he's wise enough to put thermal paste (this one goes to whoever thought he didn't use any at all, whoever you are...). 90c is too hot, and by judging by the size of the TRUE, and from what i heard (good things), i'm suggesting that MAYBE the cpu has issues, that's not impossible, ok grnfinger?

I've suggested our friend in need to RESEAT the cpu, and even INSTALL IT ON ANOTHER BOARD, just to see if the cpu is really worth an RMA.

So please, ppl, relax...

Okay guys, let me clear this up a bit. I just used the thermal paste that came with the Zalman 9700CNPS but I use the TRUE for my main rig and the 9700 for my 2nd one.
Anyway, I just bought AS 5 thermal compound to reapply as well as reseat the TRUE and I did get a better temp, but only by a small margin since it's still at 90 for 2 cores under full load @3.4Ghz (it was like 96 b4 I reseat). Don't know if it actually take some time so the thermal compound can reach its maximum conductivity.
Btw, I notice there are some scratches on the base of my heatsink and I think that could be the issue, too much hassle for me to RMA the heatsink anyway so I think I gotto find another way to keep the temp lower.

I know that you have used the thermal paste ONLY from Zalman and not the cooler itself. I normally dont get into pissing matches with ppl but there are exceptions. So dont feel responsible in anyway for 2 ppl acting like children.
I am concernd why your temps are not better for that cooler. I doubt that the scratches are your problem but I could be wrong. Your idle temp is excellent for air imo so I can only suggest its not making proper contact with the cpu. I did at first lean towards the Zalman paste, I have used it b4 and its rather cheesey at best. Do you have a window case? could you point a fan at the cpu and see if that lowers the temps?
How are all the other temps in your rig?

The temperatures at load are too high and the AS5 won`t do much better. The TR coolers are convex. Does the thermal paste fill out the hole heatsink buttom? I saw posts at forumdeluxx.de, where temperature were bad with TR cooler cause of too convex buttom.

I don't have a digital camera so I can't take picture. :D Anyway, I do have a side window and I know my fan run at maximum speed.
And these are my temps according to Everest:
Motherboard: 34
CPU: 35
Core temps: 50-50-47-47
NB: 46
SB: 42
GPU: 54
CPU core: 1.37 (I set 1.39 in BIOS)
FSB VTT: 1.47
NB core: 1.55
SB core: 1.09
SB PLL: 1.57

They're all at idle.

I am wondering how accurate 907 temp readings are. I am getting this at idle.

It is NOT about the BRAND, but the compound. And it is more akin to changing your car oil from using mineral oil to synthetic oil, the engine runs cooler therefore you CAN go faster.

Stickers are sticky, not greasy.

It is normal, that you can twist the heatsink a bit when mounted! You can`t act in accordance with that.
Remove the TRUE and check, if thermal paste was filling out the whole cpu heatspreader would be my tip. You did remove the protection film from TRUE heatsink!?

Sorry, but I don`t understand completly(because of my bad english). I use an E6750@3,6Ghz, what do you want/need? You run 3,33 with 1,25V and 1,3xx and higher gives you reboot!? I know that my E6750 runs 3,5Ghz with 1,325V bios and I need to go higher to 1,337V bios for 3,6, but that is the lowest vcore for 3,6 and I tested that, I didn`t test lower vcore for 3,5Ghz. The lowest vcore 3,5ghz is running stable could be lower is what I want to say. This both voltages won`t help you and I am a bit tired of testing atm.
You NB voltage is quiet high for a dualcore and 3,33Ghz, do you need that high NB for getting ram stable?

If you read my previous post asking for help, you'll know my problem. I had it at 1.32V and my windows will randomly reboot, after about 1-2 hours.
so i posted my bios setting for help. I also found that my temp seems unnaturally high, and weird. How can my cpu show 19C on everest when my room is already 25C at least?

After recommendation by timko I had turn off load line calibration, and i ran it on lower vcore of 1.25v.. been somewhat stable so far, but i dont dare to do orthos and everest stability test for too long because the temp looks dangerous at 80-90C

I am using 1.65V NB to power 4sticks of ballistix ddr800@1000@2.2v, which is within it's EPP spec.

I read your post, but because of my bad english, i am german, i couldn`t get it right, sorry.
1. The temperature is read out too low. This bug comes with/from Bios 0907, the cpu shows about 10° less than real/with other bios. But the cpu cores are read out right and you have to look after them.
I did know that before I got my new non-SE and I just flashed to 0903 and stayed with to get more realistic cpu temperature. I you didn`t have problems with 0903 and it`s possible, you could change back to 0903, there are no differences for me to 0907 in OC, 0903 is actually a very little bit faster in everest for me with same settings.

2. I just can give you my settings and you try them, but every system runs different. I tried OCCT for 3,5ghz yesterday to get a range of voltages from 500x7(3,5ghz) to 450x8(3,6ghz) but an error after 2h.
So far, 450x8 is the only setting stable for me.

And for 1200Mhz in 333strap, I need to change TB to Disabled lvl1, but there I can run Moderate instead of Light with AI.

3. What temp is 80-90°? I think you put to much voltages for your OC. My settings above with 1,29VNB and 1,38VFSB doesn`t boot, but 1,25VNB and 1,20VFSB are stable!

how is this possible that you reached 8x450 with such a low NB V, with my quad I need at least 1.61V :(

Dualcore and luck. With my SE before(RIP), I had to set NB to 1,29V and VFSB to 1,38 for 3,5ghz and 3,6ghz.

Hmm, maybe i should check that out, i went from 602 to 907 back to 602 and now back to 907. skipped everything in between because i figured there's gotta be something wrong for asus to release so many revisions so quickly. Every bios flash is like a heartattack waiting to happen.

I have also learned that for 333NBS, you most likely have to disable transaction booster to prevent DETDRAM error, and similarly for 400NBS you enable it. Just a basic rule of thumb after reading many many articles/posts on this MB.

And your board doesnt seem to overvolt as much. My bios setting for VDIMM is 2.08V and both bios/everest shows 2.21V actual.
Also, I have 4 sticks of ram, they needed more power than 2 sticks. If my VNB goes lower than 1.6x, memtest will show some errors all over.

I am not so sure about VFSB, but I came to this value 1.49 based on the various posts i read.

80-90 is in Celcius, for the cpucore, at MAX load, 100%. I know it is too high, but idle temp seems normal, 40C-45C. My room temp is already 25C. It goes up way too much when loaded, which is why i suspect the paste might not be good anymore after a few fan/cpu reseat.

I searched google, but couldn't find what I needed: do you know any utility which can set RTC Alarm clock values from windows? There are many alarm clocks but they only support S1 and S3 states, not power off, like RTC does. Do you know any solution?

Great overclocking guide. I got my board in December to replace a P5N32-E that I took to hell and back, but wanted to upgrade to something Yorkfield-friendly. Check out my sigged picture gallery (if OCN's server is behaving).

Some questions for anyone!

1) Is 0907 considered the best OC BIOS?
2) I can't get Transaction Booster to POST with my 2x2 G.Skills or my 4x1 Ballistix. Is this normal?
3) What's the word with Yorkfields on this board? Are we going to see some 500FSB action, or what?

You'll probably have to play with the transaction booster disabled and enabled...mine runs best on disabled/1
I am running a yorkie but @ 10 * 400. I have had it to 500 stable but choose to run @ 400 so I can keep the NB volts lower and cooler.

ok, for 4sticks of ram you need higher VNB, and when you tested that, I believe you, but I only saw that high VNB from quad-users. Are the coretemps better?
Can you post idle/load temps from cpu and cores, perhaps from everything you can read out!?

I am running a yorkie but @ 10 * 400. I have had it to 500 stable but choose to run @ 400 so I can keep the NB volts lower and cooler.

That's promising about your Yorkie. I'm pre-ordered on a Q9450 that I hope to take to 8x470. I was reading a thread where a Q9450 topped-out at 450FSB on X38... hopefully that was just an old BIOS.

Speaking of BIOS, any reason you're still using 0903?

FSB Frequency : 400
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 266
DRAM Static Read Control: Enabled
Ai Clock Twister : Moderate
Transaction Booster : Disabled
-Boost Level 0

If you use Strap 333 then you can change Ai Clock Twister: Strong
