Awesome oc. My board tops out at the same fsb. If MSI could get these rebooting probs figured out and maybe give us a little more headroom (450-475MHz) than this would be a killer board.Quote:

Someone mentioned that 400+FSB is nearly impossible on this board, then someone else chimed in with how come other 975x boards can do that?
Then..
Hmm..Quote:

i very very nearly sold my E6400 e.s. today but luckily i started reading these threads again......i sold my badaxe and need a new board for the weekend....so i must order tomorrow....im also sitting with a retail E6600 and these are getting good clocks with new bioses on the p5b deluxe, anyone tried the gigabyte with this chip?
(moderators...sorry for going off topic...urgent help required!!!)
please help me chose....

P5B duluxe is your answer, but I think your going to regret not getting the MSI once they have straightened out the kinks with bios improvements.Quote:

I will gladly try out the new 716 bios. I'm having a great deal of difficulty finding it though , if someone could upload it, i'll be the guinea pig and will report back the results/whats changed.
see this is what i mean.....lol......im leaning towards the p5b deluxe at the minute, and...the 975 has to be physicaly sent back by me (lol) as its not arrived yet........the other reason for the p5b is that i see loads of reviews saying that retail e6600's are getting 4ghz stable easily with the latest bios.....
what to do......lol!
I would like to test 716 too. Please upload
Considering the P5B myself, but first I'm gonna try for a better clocking 6600:(
When I get a working chip, I'll contact MSI engineers and get the skinny on the chipset timings. :)
Now this is funny shyt! :D Please point us to those loads of reviews... :rolleyes:Quote:

That's what thought.... Funny shyt... Enjoy your P5B and please post some of those stable 4Gig screenies. :) :) LOL
This is taken from anandtech's review & I barlely even trust them. But still even they say that 975's are better by the numbers.Quote:
While the new BIOS on the P5B adds enormous flexibility to the 965P motherboard, it should still be pointed out that on average the 965 still does not overclock as well as the Intel 975X if you compare clock to clock. You might want to look back at the 975X overclocking results in Conroe Buying Guide: Feeding the Monster for a comparison.
Taken from techreport.Quote:
That leaves the P5B Deluxe Wifi-AP Edition, which is best for south bridge Serial ATA RAID junkies and enterprising overclockers. If I had to pick one for my personal workstation, the P5B would be it, but I'd disable that pathetic PCI Gigabit Ethernet controller right away.
I've yet to find 4 ghz on retail 6600's but they do seem to like the board.
my mistake...e.s. E6600's.... (never read properly....) anyways, the new bios does seem to be doing wonders with the e6600 on the p5b deluxe.....
still in thought.....
716 uploaded see this at msi forums

Thank you kind sir, I will be trying it now. Will be back soon (hopefully if bios doesn't freeze :( )
everyone let us know how this goes! i will have mine tomorrow so i can test along wiht you folks, but now i have to live vicariously through you!
test all night don't sleep!
Quick update. Ok flashed successfully to 716. Bios boot up says 71B6 though. Haven't tried raising FSB yet, but I did check out voltages and options. Vcore max is still 1.58 (vdroop 1.55v) Max Vdimm is 2.4v dividers are 1:1 1:1.25 1:1.33 1:1.5 1:2. ( I believe, bad short term memory) Nothing seems like it has changed as far as options. Will report back in a few.
Seems to have fixed the cold boot issues. I cold booted 3 times each time off for a few minutes and each it posted at 400x9.:woot: Also now when you make changes in the bios it will shut down then power back up just like it did when you cleared cmos and started over.
I a bit disappointed that there wasn't more memory options or voltages increased. Ocing seems the same. Set vdimm and PCI-E max used Speedstep to lower multi and clockgen to raise and still same results as before.
Might need to throw in my 6400 and see what happens. Bottom line, same options but atleast MSI I think figured out the booting issues. Will try the restarts now.
Ok seems restarts are still not a go. Had to power down, again it did power up with my current OC in sig.
Thanks MSI for trying. Looks like it only fixed cold boot problems.
I could only get to 416mhz FSB on this board when I had it, but I believe it was the Vcore at only 1.58 max in bios that limited me on my E6600 B2 stepping chip. Now playing with Giga DQ6 mobo...:bravo:Quote:

I've contact MSI... and going to wait for a response back. Hopefully they will meet my demands for a good bios with some special adjustments. Time will tell my friends.
