Seems to be...I'll try this asap. Just make sure the chip doesn't fly away and that the force applied is 100% paralell to the vise so to avoid making the ihs smash the die or pcb when moving.
Use cool laboratory liquid pro no dude buddy!....I see Vice style but I prefer classic razor method

This'll probably be my best attempt at being XTREME! I'd rather whack things with a hammer, lol. That's my POV on the topic. :p I was planning on getting the PRO. You'd think Ultra should be better, but it's not.
I see only one auction for $17+ shipped. Frozen cpu has it for $14 & I need to make an order for compression fittings anyways.
My g/f is going to be SUPER pissed because I'm doing this to her CPU & holding up her build, but she'll appreciate higher OCs. 4.6ghz on an i7 just isn't acceptable for XS. ;)

I used double sided shaving razors. Because you break them in half, you can't apply too much pressure or they'll cut into you or hurt like help. They are super thin. I also used thicker blades afterwards to create more separate. I eventually shoved two thicker blades in, using the bottom as a safe surface to leverage the lid off of the PCB.
Popped it in a board & it posts. Next, I have an i5 & i7. :D

I found this thread late last night and have already dlidded my 3770 and i am having great results:up:
I found out the my Phobya water block wasn't seated right... The block is lapped
and I re-lapped the cpu lid. I used PK-1 between IHS and die and between my waterblock. The temps tell it all!!!:D
I cant seem to upload any pics, I am seeing about 17C better at 4.7..........
Wait to see your results with liquid pro or ultra on die...10-15c more to drop. ;)

i have been trying to post my de-lidded 3770k @4.5ghz 1.33v (fairly crap cpu i think but not the worst) but i cant add pics for some reason it does not have add pics in the attachments but a quick message is 3770k went from 101c down to 83c with liquid pro and a h60 cpu cooler

I thought there was some exaggeration there when you said 5 secs, but nope, really took 5 secs :D On a separate but related note I have a i5 3570k I'll be ordering soon to replace my i5 2500k which has developed some kind of fault (random BSODs and lockups even at stock, tested on 3 different boards) has anyone delidded and have before and after temp comparisons using Arctic MX4?
Actually this video showed a far safer way to remove the IHS away from the PCB. They just swapped positions from the earlier trick where they placed the PCB into the vice.
I still haven't done the deed yet (mostly scared of ruining the cpu) but I have to do it soon so that I can lower the temps on the 3770K. Just severely lacking the guts to do it yet.
If the IHS on my 2500k wasn't soldered on I would of delidded that, I'm actually happy intel have gone back to paste so we can all shave 10-15c off our load temps. I've just installed the replacement 3570k in my system, once I've tested everything to verify all is well I'll be delidding the 3570k if I don't like the load temps. Currently with everything stock, side panel off in UEFI core temp reads 29.5c, thats about 12c cooler than my 2500k ever was at stock.
ED - Forgot to mention default voltage for my new 3570k is 0.97v, from what I know average idle voltage for these CPUs tend to hover around 1.05v - 1.08v so this 3570k might be a good one :D

Hopefully I have some time next month to hit my 3570K with a hammer to see if I can get the temps down and the MHz up.
I haven't tried undervolting. The closest I got to undervolting is when setting offset voltage so load voltage wasn't really high. Doing that my idle voltage was 0.85v, I think I'll definitely be needing to delid this 3570k though even with just 1.12v @ load I'm seeing 77c - 80c temps when running IBT :shakes: I wasn't going to delid my 3570k so soon after getting it so as not to spoil that shiny new newness feeling we get but I don't think I can accept 80c temps.
Happy to report another triumph for delidding here.
Reports according to RealTemp 3.7 with CPU @ stock with 5 passes of IBT using 6750MB of RAM;

Max: 54/62/61/63
After:
Min: 18/19/23/27
Max: 48/55/57/59
I used Arctic MX4, in regards to my 3570k the stock TIM was already all dried up when I removed the IHS... doesn't exactly fill me full of confidence for intels manufacturing quality. I don't get why intel don't just provide the IHS but don't stick it down so users can use their own TIM and replace when necessary. I'll test out OC load temps later.
