Go Cubs!
Just wanted to update a little on my L804A, it takes 1.48v loaded for 437x8= 3500mhz which it's currently been crunching @100% for 8hours now.
http://i32.tinypic.com/2urpmac.jpg
Thanks for the update. If it's cooled by the TRUE 120mm at 7v, I'd say that's a great job done for a 2008 batch. How are those core temps and what's your crunching program(s)?
I'm using Boinc to crunch.
http://i27.tinypic.com/29xg2o3.jpg
Still going strong after 11 hours. This is the lowest vcore for stability.
My temps are quite strange on this cpu and true. The true is lapped and I used it originally on my other Q6600 and it the cores were withing 6c of eachother at load.
Idle:
(5minutes idle time from full load)

Load:

I don't think the mount on the true is off and the lap job is good so
65c max temp with 20c ambient is good enough for me and not worth a remount atm, too much crunching downtime already :D
@Gen: Is the P5K-E a good mobo to OC the Q6600 on? Can it handle those nb volts easily with the stock heatsinks? I'm also worried about mobos with 4-pin CPU connectors...
Loser, I have the P5K-E and it seems to be a good overclocker, not as many features as my old DFI, but it has all of the bells and whistles of any good board. I have not been able to reach stable yet so I wont discuss any temps, we will see what Gen has to say.
@Gen, could you post a screen shot of HWMonitor results so we can see all of your temps. I assume you already have it, but just in case LINK. If you see a really high temp (120+ C), it is just the absence of a sensor that it trying to read.
P5K-E is a great board and I've had almost no trouble with it, I would really recommend it to anyone wanting a solid P35 board. The only problem I would warn a potential buyer is that the mobo overvolts when using the lowest voltages on the following (on some revisions, 1.02 for sure) ex:
vNB 1.25v ========= 1.55v
vPLL 1.5v ========= 1.80v
vFSB 1.2v ========= 1.4v
check the last page or so of the P5K-E thread for more infos.
As to your second comment are you referring to the P5K-E having only 4pin cpu? because it has 8pin  or are you referring to mobos in general who have only a single 4pin?
Since you asked about the P5K-E I will post some results that I just finished getting stable today. Previously my L723A Q6600 was stable as it's shown in my sig for now.
1 hour OCCT Ram Test stable but no pic since i closed it :p:

Hmm, I thought the P5K-E had a 4-pin connector:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...el+Motherboard
Well, I hope that I can get 3.7GHz with a L8XX Q6600/Q6700... :/
This seems to be my best choice for mobo, as it's the cheapest Crossfire capable reputable P35 mobo... IP35 Pro is a little expensive for my taste, Neo-2 has some insane vdrop+vdroop... and the DS3X series seems pretty iffy to me.
I was looking at the DK T2RS also but I haven't really heard much about it.
The other 4 pin cpu connector is covered by the black insert.
Ah, that's reassuring... btw, was any additional cooling needed on the FETs or the NB etc.?
BTW are you looking at the wifi version or the non? b/c I have the wifi.
The newegg pic you posted is the P5K-E non wifi version and it has no heatpipes (good or bad, up to you) and it also has a heastink on the top mosfets whereas the P5K-E wifi does not have this heatsink and has a heatpipe between the NB/PMW.
As for your question, it all depends on what your goals are: light/heavy o/c, 24/7 load or just games, dual or quad cpu, case/ambients etc, without knowing that it's hard to recommend what you may need.
I did a test awhile back on a quad @1.42v load and the top mosfets got around 45c idle with a fan blowing on them and around 55c load IIRC (was along time ago in the P5K-E thread). I personally have some ram sinks sitting on the mosfets since I run 24/7 load.
For additional cooling,
I do have a 40mm fan on the NB.
I originally didn't have a fan on the PMW but I stuck my finger in there one day and touched near the bottom of the HS and it was 'really hot' but then again it is connected by heatpipe to the NB so it has a 40mm.
With a 80mm blowing on the ram that makes 3 fans for this mobo.
Sorry for the off topics if you have more questions post them in P5K-E WiFi Thread. :sofa:
I've seen somebody reporting his new L807A to have 1.200V VID and do something like 3.2G 1.25V, can anyone having one of these very new stepping confirm this?
L721A @ 3Ghz (333*9, FSB 1333) 1.2real vCore, but is a old chip, :)
VID 1.27v
My L804 crashed 3 hours in P95 on all four cores 400x9 1.55bios 1.52 actual Load. The memory wasn't near its rated max so I am unsure. NB 1.6v, VTT 1.6V
@gen did you use 266 strap or 333? I need to tweak more to get this stable at 3.6 Dissapointed... with my good water setup
what would you advice for a Q6600?
the DFI DK P35 or DFI LT P35 or the DFI DK x38 ? (the LT P35 and DK x38 are priced almost the same...)
I will overclock, hopefully with a tuniq tower or a TRUE
thanks.
I was able to use 333 strap with PLVL 3 using the lowest NB volts (lowest keeping mind vNB bug) so that's what i'm using atm (then again I'm not running high RAM speed). I tested using 400 strap tho, with PLVL disabled just to rule out memory when finding CPU frequency with lowest voltage possible.
I tested the difference between 400 and 333 strap (keeping 845mhz on RAM) with SPI 32m and 333 strap was only about 25seconds faster.
Imo set strap to 400 1:1 with PLVL disabled and RAM timings set to 5-5-15 to rule out it's not your memory subsystem holding you back. With these loose settings you should be able to only need 1.5v or less on your NB, sometimes lower volts are better (680i comes to mind).
Do you have your NB under water?
Thanks GEN, NB is under water 33C OCCT LOAD.
Even with lower multiplier and slower memory I can't get my fsb stable above 400. 333 strap doens't wanna work at 400fsb or higher either.
whats PLVL?
I'm thinking 3.6ghz is my CPU limit due to 4phase figital of my motherboard, + its a bad VID.
But my FSB/memory shouldn't be giving my trouble like it is.
PLVL meaning Performance Level in Memset, can be called Boost Level, Transaction Booster etc. for some reason I thought you had a P5K-E, my bad.
Running 7 adn 6, level 6 seems to be as stabel as 7 at 5-5-5-15 500mhz 2T 266/667 strap
First post here. So I'll say hi and hit the ground running :D
So I have a question. How *hot* is too hot for a q6600 just for future reference? I have a q6600 G0 L804A768 but this puppy just loves volts.
I have it clocked to 3.3 with a vid of 1.425 but real temp shows the first two processors at 64-66C and the other two at 58-60C on full load with Prime.
Is this normal and I ask because I feel like the first two cores should be sitting at least 60-62C.
I'm thinking about reseating the heatsink. If that doesn't work I'll go with buying a tube of shin-etsu and another Xigmatek fan. I may also lap the processor but what do you guys think about lapping the Xigmatek .
Yeah, that kind of temp discrepancy is present on most quads. I wouldn't know anything about lapping though. I would say stay below 70C for 24/7 use, but I've gone to 83+C for quick benching.
Thank you guys for the reply.
I think I'm going to buy a lapping kit and maybe do the q6600. I think when the Xigmatek had the original fan on it blew more air from what I remember. I think it made a difference in temp but I guess I have more testing to do.
I'll see if the lap does any difference in temp and see *if* I do the lap on the Xigmatek if it'll drop temps also. I think I'm hesitant since there's a chunk cut off to make it flat and I don't want to let any liquid out of the heatpipes.
If that's the case I should of gone the watercooling route.
there are no vids of 1.425 I think you mean 1.325 like my L804.
Depending on the cooling you have. Sounds like air. If u need to lap for 5 more degree C all more power to you.
Hi guys. First post here :D
This is my Q6600.
Batch: L731B
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/n...0_0063copy.jpg
The VID is 1.25V
With 1.10V from the BIOS, it is stable at 320x9 (2880MHz). Here is the validation
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=365015
24/7 is 400x9 with 1.35V set from BIOS. All the other settings are set to their lowest (I don't remember at the moment, if you would like to know, please ask:p:) The mobo is ASUS P5K-E WiFi with 1002 BIOS
just got my Quad...my first quad. will this overclock good?
was able to run 362x9 at stock voltages (everything at stock actually & just tried to raise FSB until lock up :D)

CPU-Z | batch: L723B837 | vid: 1.2375v
You've a nice low VID, so it should clock well.
trade you :)
I have maybe a bit stupid quastion, but is it possible to "kill" Intel CPU within 3 month? I am getting very good deal on a used Intel CPU - but how safe is it?
Anytime I set my vcore higher than 1.425 it won't boot I'm running a DFI P35. Any ideas its rock stable at 3.65Ghz @ 1.36V
I got it to work 3.85ghz stable on water too bad my ambient is 30c :(
Mine is throttling once I take her over 3.97ghz -
http://img56.imageshack.us/img56/723/throttlingiy8.jpg
Once I take it over 3.97ghz a Windows System process kicks in when I run OCCT or Prime95. Upping the voltages makes no difference. Temps are grand and PSU readings are too (I think), and I can't kill the process.
Any ideas why it's happening?
Your temps are fine. I get 68,67,65,65 with Xigmatek RS stock fan, with prime 95 small ftt ambient 22 C. I have run upto 84c on the hottest core for several minutes under stress testing without apparent harm. would recommend 70C or less under max stress for 24/7 use
Hello guys, just wanted to update the thread for those of you looking for good C2Q Q6600 processors. Just got mine and I'm happier than ever. It's an SLACR L736B249, manufactured 11/06/07 and it has VID: 1.2125 (C1E&SStep disabled). For now it runs super stable at 429x7 = 3000MHz @ 1.247V in Windows, but I'm looking for even lower voltage at this speed.

How do I find G0 stepping?
Right now I can find a q6600 for $214 at newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017
How do I know what I am going to get????
All of the Q6600s being sold now are G0s. However, the new batches suck monkey balls...
You're going to have trouble going over 3.4GHz.
how far can a Q6600 be overclocked with a zalman fan or some sort of copper heatsink ?
thanks, Leeghoofd !
by the way... since you have more experience. i'm thinking of future investments in q6600 rendernodes since they give the best price/performance ratio... especially when overclocked of course. now. i'd need also cheap cases and i thought about 1u or 2u rack cases.
is it okay to overclock to 3.4 with a better fan (i'm not sure if a zalman would fit in there) in such a small case or do you see significant problems with that ?
what mobo and what ram is best / cheapest / most reliable for such a task ? there are so many possible rigs around - i'm a little lost ...
Best, cheap and most reliable to overclock a Q6600 is definately a P35 board. They should all easily OC up to 3.4GHz as it is only 377MHz. If you have a good batch running low vcore, no problem. But, if you need high vcore, let's say above 1.4v, better go with a some high end models as the quality of the PWM is vital to OC a Q6600 on high vcore. For RAM, get any PC2-6400 kit as it will afford the 755MHz on RAM at 1:1
About the case, I don't know
Yeah My Q6600 L747B274 vid is 1.32v. Damn what luck!
Would my new DFI LT P-35 be able to get it to 3.4 without too much trouble?
I have 2 kits of Gskill pc6400 HZ and Xigmatek HDt S1283 HSF.Corsair HX 620 (11.90 on +12v rail ,seems a little weak)
Can anyone confirm if this Q6600 FPO L640B814 is any good?
I had one. It wasn't a great clocker with a 1.30VID. 3.3Ghz with 1.43v and would not make 3.4 with 1.5v so I put it in an HTPC and sold it. Bought a L738B024 that makes an easy 3.6Ghz. Both were installed in a P5K-E and a P5K-Premium for testing.
http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/h...GhzStopped.jpg
Now that doesn't mean that your one is going to be the same as the one I had.
Here´s my contribution...regarding batches :)

Note that not all settings were optimized (mems/voltages) but you already can see nice differences ;)
Could my G0 be one of the bad ones? i can get a solid 335FBS @stock volts, but if i go for a 400FBS i have to bump the Vcore to 1.43 and while i can boot into Vista x64 once i run Prime i get a BOSD.
Side note:
i just bought my system while i cant return the CPU now i could replace it...should i replace it w/ E8400?
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...19#post3040519
Is that 1.43 in the bios or when its loaded up? I'd up the vcore but it looks like you might be at the limit of your cooler according to your other thread.
My abit ip35 pro is set to 1.505 in the bios but it dips to 1.43 under load. These guys respond very good with the addition of more voltage.
here is a Screenshot (note ram is at 2.0v not 1.925)

Thanks, Saint -Francis,I love my DFI! It's pretty hot around here Ormond Beach FL.(94.F,outside,77 F,inside) I have a CM 830 evo case.(build in progress) just got my Zotac 8800gtx yesterday!Thinking about using Scythe S flex 1900 rpm( for the side fan cage) I got cold feet about watercooling in the past ,but am a little more comfortable with doing it now.still have unused 77 Bonneville heatercore, old Swiftech mcp 6000? water block (skt478) want to go with exterior rad (tool box ghetto mod) stiil need pump, fans, masterclear tubing and either D-tek fusion or Swiftech Apogee GTX(?) cpu block.
If you look at my signature you will see what I have done with my Q6600 and mY DFI LanParty p35. I am running the Q6600 @ 3.6 (which is a nice smooth 50% overclock) and my max temps with an ambient temperature of about 80 F. (no air conditioning in my house) are and have never been higher than 50 C. The CPU is under load quite often and it is usually in the mid to low 40's during the day. I''m using the same heater core you have; well I have two of them. But when I only had one it was still quite efficient. Even if you have a high vid, if you water cool it you will be able to OC much higher with much more safety and peace of mind.:D
nice francis, I need 1.50 to hold 3.6ghz, C1E speedstep and vdroop enabled.
I had a Q6600 with vid of 1.325v which needed 1.52v for 3700mhz stable.
I sold it and got one with vid of 1.235v which passes Pi 1M upto 4016mhz with 1.488v loaded (1.500v bios) on air.
I need to fit my waterloop to see if I can go any higher with it.

Works with 1,24 vtt too. 1,45 was on auto.
Where to go from here?

fiveprime, what strap are you using ?
Im running a 3:4 fsb dram ratio, I set the memory speed manually and had the strap auto adjust.
Has any of you guys had trouble overclocking your q6600 on a 790i ? I cant get over 3ghz and vcore drops heaps between bios and windows while not being consistant either . Im not sure if I should get a q6600 friendly mobo or get a 45nm cpu . I do have a qx9650 on the way but it will be a week or so before it arrives.
BX80562Q6600SLACR -is this any good? Shall I go for it?!
l805 probably is 1.325
strumf666's L808 is 1.225v, so try to find one of those...
I'll trade someone my 1.325 vid + 50$ for a 1.225- vid :P
(is 200-300mhz worth 50$ hmmmmm)
This is my first post here , great forum
I've tried 2 Q6600s , one is L747 in the older grey box and one L750 with the newer blue box .
Both have 1.325 VID and both would only reach 3.2 with Vcore set to 1.375 in bios
Tomorrow I will recieve a new L804 one and keep my fingers crossed for a lower VID and/or higher overclockability although it seems that L804 is as bad
I will keep you posted
Did I get a good chip or are my results typrical for G0s?
Looking at your results and volts you got a pretty good 24/7 settings there. I would say your chip is nice too because your vcore is below average for that speed.
Too bad I sold my L737B a while back :/
@fiveprime :
Your 3DMark06 score seems low to me @3.6 because I got 15030 with my Q6600@3.2 !
I still love these Q6600 L737B's
Mine's vid 1,225 and for 24/7 3800 with 1,4375 vcore on bios, 1,41 drop on water...
My Max Bench is 4260 with 1,6250 vcore on bios and i got a 11,806 spi 1MB
Still don't find a reason to change CPU
I love Q6600 L737B's :D
And thanks for my mate WizardOfOz that sold it to me
Cheers
Sergio
Just recieved the L804 , its VID is 1.2875 , is that good ?
Great for a L804, mine is 1.325
My Q6600 is stable at 3.6 and has a VID of 1.325. Look at sig for specs.
