Ofcourse it must differ per product, but i thought a lot of heatpipes were held in place by tightening? I also notice on this VF900 i've got here that the heatpipe is threaded through the fins, but i'm thinking some grease might help connect the two and transfer heat quicker.
The question was also more related to better heat transfer capacity than to practicality in setting it up.
