Go for 7900GT SLI if you're going 7900 seeing as BOTH THE GT AND GTX ARE BOTH 24 PIPES !!!!!
The GTX is overpriced and underperforms vs XTX and current 7800GTX512. Unless you love benching 3dmark03 :p:

when i said I barley get over 10k with stock settings, I meant CPU/mem also at stock speeds. which would only be 2.2ghz.
no, but I have an Opteron 148 @3Ghz which Im willing to guess would score exactly the same in 3d05 for single card scores when clocked Mhz:Mhz the same. Its in CF/SLI config when you will notice a benefit from the duel core. Im only a few points from 14k @3035mhz-750/850Quote:

I think Nvidia is comfortable with this fact, if they cannot beat ATI in power per card, they can beat it in effeciency when cards are paired or qauded up.
They are to close to compare by performance. Pricing will settle that.
I'm wondering if 7900GTX ULTRA "XXX OMFG edition" will be any better than the 7900GT. You can only push the architecture so far.
I'm personally wiaitng for the x1900SE for $250, that will unlock to x1900XTX speeds :D
I'm hoping for a huge ATi and nvidia price war and the scoring fairly close so you can take your pcik of either very red cheap card or very cheap green card !

Andy
LOL nice :DQuote:

Anyways, lets hope the 7900s don't have a cold bug. Then it might be some kind of selling point for the xtreme OCers :stick:
question does 7900GTX allow adjustable voltages in software... ? for folks who can't volt mod if they're life depended on it... seems X1900XTX would be a better option ?
X1900XT is a better option for those who can't voltmod for their lifes... (Like me for instance) The 7900GTX doesn't allow adjustable voltagens in software...
About the 7900GT->7900GTX the diferences probably lie in the Pixel Processors the GTX would have 48 (like kinda like in the X1900) and the GT the same as the 7800GTX (Don't remember the exact number :P) Or you tought the HUGE cash difference had no reason ?
Hmm, 7900gt for $300 is a good choice, 2x7900gt will def beat 1 GTX for $600. But I am not sure if it's really gonna be that cheap. Sadly Aopen for Yonahs does not officially support SLI, only CF

All the 7900GTs ^^^^^^^^^
DAMN does that eVGA GT OC look like an amazing deal: 550/1580 for $359--that's nearly 7800GTX512 performance! And it has a crappy cooler, so who knows what it'll do with a better cooler.

All the 7900GTXs ^^^^^^^^^^
Of note is that the XFX cards haven't had their clockspeeds uploaded yet.
here a french review :
http://www.clubic.com/article-32655-...njour-g71.html
they say the 7900 GTX is slightly faster then the x1900xtx, and they like the 7900gtx better because it's cheaper. You need to put this into context : 2/3 of their benchmarks are without fsaa/aniso, whatever is left is done with 4xfsaa/8x aniso, and in france we have :banana::banana::banana::banana:ed up retailers who inflate prices like hell on high end pieces which don't have competition on them (like x1900xtx), you can't get a x1900xtx for less then 600+ euros (that's $750+).
ATI and nvidia need more control on retail prices (a bit like lian-li. when their v2000 came out, everyone was dead on their MSRP).
looks like x800->x850 to me
After all this wait...this is what we get?
I'm not one for dual video cards unless I can buy a set for $400 so viewing the single card results is very dissapointing to say the least. Nvidia had the ability to really stretch out there market prowess but seems to be satisfied with the status quo.
They need a more comprehensive market strategy IMO.
Ati are lowering there costs. As a matter of fact, an MSI x1900xtx can be had for $620 Canadian wholesale and this is before there next price reduction.
For a top end card without this silly SLI crap, it looks like ATI is still up there. The more competitive mid price level will be owned by ATI when they introduce the x1900SE for $250US by the looks of things.
IDK if this is the engineering's fault or the marketing dept fault....but it does seem the initial reaction is turning out to stray from the typical "giving them what they want" to "leave them wanting more" :(
The performance is better, the yields are better, the heat is lower, the cost is lower, but it seems it's still not one of those nice jumps we've gotten acustomed to :meh:
yada yada yada... but have they? (and please recall the track record)Quote:

I know everybody was expecting like the 2nd coming of JC or something, but put in context of 7800GTX (256MB), 7900GT is cooler, quiter, cheaper, and given a proper heatsink I'm sure will get mighty close to 7900GTX speeds.
And the price....
MSRP $300 7900GT = WOW!
I am like =============|=>
cheapest x1900, the AIW = $450
cheapest 7900, the PNY GT = $290
