It certainly is scary i just got my FX-60 as well too... could it of been a power surge from mains power ?

I can give some advice though. We all know that PCP&C's warranty won't cover hardware lost due to a PSU failure. That's clearly stated in their warranty, sucks but what are you going to do. What you may be able to do is file a loss with your homeowners/renter's insurance. I carry a blanket policy on my computer systems now that cover for loss up to $6K. Tell the insurance company that the loss was due to a power failure event (which is true). Paying a small deductible in this case is much better than eating a $2K+ loss.

Not sure what the hell happened, but given the recent threads about PSUs and power hungry SLI, I guess the PCP&C was just over worked. It must have surged badly.

Needless to say, this is a pretty big set back. I'm gonna need to circle the wagons for while. I've parted out my Multimedia rig to raise cash and combine my best remaining parts from both PCs to get me one solid system. I'll be getting the Mach II fixed and then it'll be up for sale along with most of my water cooling gear. Gonna lay low for a while and lick the wounds:)

Anyways, more importantly than me whining about my hardware death, is a warning to everyone out there....be careful! If you are running an overl:banana::banana::banana::banana:ed FX chip and big SLI/CF cards make sure your PSU is up to the task!

I'll be hanging around and chatting, but it'll be while before I step into the dep end of the pool again:(

if you were.....they insure whatever hardware is hooke up to them as well.

That does suck. Any chance you bought some of this stuff with American Express? They have that built in warranty extender / insurance features. I've never used it myself, but some friends sure have.

hm question about that. what if your hardware is modded - like mdzcpa
described - but that isn't the direct cause as in this case. do they pay
up for that? wouldn't they inspect the system and probably wonder
about all those strange cablestuff and all and point at that for being the
cause and thus refusing to pay? like at times they act up when you're
watercooling blew and killed your rig... like water doesn't belong inside
a pc and some such nonsense (as now even several big servers are
cooled using water, or apple rigs that come with it stock now)...

yeah, its just an issue of whether you want to mess with a warranty like that. For myself personally, I wouldnt think twice about removing mods, or cleaning up my motherboard, etc before i sent it back for warranty--it's not that hard really... But, that's if I knew my modding was not the cause of the failure, and rather a real manuf defect, or problem like mdzcpa has. I'm willing to take a loss if my stupidity caused insane voltage flux and killed things, but not if my psu did it all on it's own.

I would do what you can man, and not feel bad about it one way or the other--the worst they can do is deny your rma. Happened to me before with Epox. They said that there were scratches on some caps on a mobo I had and couldnt do anything, though it was clear that had nothing to do with why it died. I told them to throw it away and that was that. Now, the situation might be different because the fault lies with PCP&C and their non-working voltage cutoffs, but i wouldn't consider not-RMAing stuff because you had it modded, in this case.

Terribly sorry to hear for your loss - what an huge blow! Hope you'll recover quickly form this and people will learn from your bad luck to prevent more losses with powerhungry overclocked sli/cf systems.

Mike, Sorry to here about your loss, hopefully we will be able to learn from this and move on.... I know I was going to grap 2 150 gig raptors with the tax money but I think i will now look into a bigger psu.....

respect for taking it so well. I've lost a graphics card or two, always my fault, but to lose a whole system on something so unpredictable as that, with not your fault at all, man. Takes some balls not to lose it completely.

Hmmmm....that's a pretty good idea. With $2k on the line it might be worth a shot. Thanks for the tip:thumbsup:

BTW, I thought it was you that had the similar incident. Although I certainly wouldn't wish this kind of thing on anyone its kind of nice to know I'm not alone. I wonder if there is something up with the PCP&C units when they are pushed too hard. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion.

I dunno, but I'm going to find out tomorrow. I'll be calling my homeowners and see what happens. 15 years of paying premiums without a single claim. Its time to see if I can get something back.

No, no misunderstanding at all. My comment was directed at Mike6969 as well. Why he would even think that I'd be making something like this up is beyond me as I have nothing to gain by telling the story. I'm sorry if you thought I was directing my comment at you Dumo.

And, come to think of it i shouldn't have snapped at Mike6969 anyway. I could not care less what he beleives or doesn't beleive. I should not have even responded. I guess I'm just a bit touchy about the subject. Go figure :)

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that posted some kind words. No one understands how much it sucks to lose this kind of hardware in a single incident except for my friends here on XS. Although I don't like to belly ache about lost hardware (because it happens in this hobby from time to time), its nice to have a place to come and talk about it where people understand.

Also, there has been some progress. The PCP&C unit is being replaced. A new Mach II controller is on the way (donated by a very good friend!). I sold all my parts from my old multimedia rig to fund a good chunk of the cost for a used FX60 and Expert which are now in my main rig. I've also re-employed my Exos II for cooling duties. All in all, its a pretty nice 24/7 system. I'll run this for a few months until I can pay off the rest of the bills and get back in the game with some serious cooling and CF action.

About the PCP&C warranty I am sorry for giving you false hope. I really thought I read somewhere that damages were covered.
