Since Maviryks' elequent post about Danger Dens Nv7800 Block not fitting the 7800GS, I see Danger Dens News page has an Item stating it will NOTfit.
DD Update
Nvidia News:
The 7800GS Video Card is designed completely different then any Nvidia Card in the past. Danger Den does not have a water block to cool this card.
ATI News:
The X1900 series blocks should be coming off the machine tomorrow. The full coverage block for the Master will be different then the Slave card. But the Slave card should fit the Slave X1800 series. No word yet on the X1800 Master as we don't have one...and probably will not have one.

Hey Maviryk what program are you using to overclock your card. Coolbits will only raise my mem to 1500. That is enough to put me at the TOP of the orb for 7800gs cards when compared to all CPU's. I just smashed my own high mark but the damn futuremark orb is down right now. Has anybody else noticed the cold bug. With my extreme liquid cooling system I pump outside night air through my radiator and into my case tonight my case temp is 2C my cpu temp as I type is 8C my card is like an ice cube and until I shut off my main fans and warm the card up it really drags. When running too cold it will score as low as 892 in 3D05. When it is warm it will score easily 7600
When it is too cold it will score as low as 2772 in 3D03 when it is running around 40C it scores this!!!

By the way I run a Antec 550 tru-power PSU also. Although I only have 2 HDD's hooked up. This card has been a real sweet surprise!!

I just ran another 3D03 test and the Damn ORB is down and I need to submit this score. I will leave my system on as long as it takes DAMMIT!!!!!
Here is the score I am waiting to submit

No mods I just work finding the optimum temps drivers and speeds
The orb is running again!!!

Use PowerStrip. It maxes out at 572/1729. No artifacting tests.
Thanks Maviryk, I discovered that last night in my search. I appreciate your quick response.

Taking yor advice Mav, I've decided on the Top Banana one you suggested.

I'm also investing in a DMM & de-noobing myself by Modding my P4C800ED for the Vapo, Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe build.
Whilst still on air, i'm using a Tagan 480 atm, True Control is retired.
I'd also like to ask your opinion about the Vapochill XEII.
The Compressor has it's own Power supply Via a Piggy Back Kettle Lead arangement. IE, the Compressor Power plug, plugs into the Back of the PSU, & then u plug the Mains Kettle lead into this piggy back arrangement. I trust this will not load the output of the PSU & is no different to using a Mains Splitter!?
With respect & Thanks in advance.
KH :)
Kin Hell before you volt mod that motherboard make sure to practice on some old PCB. Be sure to have a magnifying lamp and if you have a soldering assist tool (Kronus Helping Hands) it makes things much easier. As for the thing you refer to as a "Mains Splitter", not sure what you mean by that. I assume the molex that plugs into your PSU is hooked up to a 12vdc/120vac relay switch which turns on the compressor when your PSU is on. Those generally draw about .40amps (about as much as a fan).
As to everyone else, I've confirmed that the 7800GS has a 38C cold bug(at least that's the exact temp on mine)! It throttles the core when temps go below 38C, for me that translates to water temp of about 26C, which is very easy to achieve when the ambient is 20C.
Does anyone know of a quick way to disable the temperature monitoring? I currently don't have a floppy drive to flash my BIOS.
It's not possible without biosmodding, and even with i'm not sure. You can set the 2D and 3D clocks in the bios at the same desired level and then the card doesn't "know" any lower clocks than that. There is no "throttle performance level" or a "core slowdown temperature", so I guess it will just throttle to the lowest clock set in the bios.Quote:

Not enough Video Memory
This sample will now Exit.
It only does it when I double click the Top Menu bar. If I select Full screen option by selecting Full Screen from the drop down menus, its fine. I don't recall this happening earlier & most certainly NOT on my old 9800XT.
Anyone else see this with their 7800 GS?
You know it is lonely being the only one over 17,000 on the 3D03 orb just not real lonely!! A little update on this BFG 7800GS card. My cooling system is capable of rapid cooling so as soo as I hit the high clocks and start a bench or a game when the GPU is starting to make some heat I turn on my cooling to full.Once the card is up and running it is fine.

For some reason my card does not like to run 3dMark03 past 470Mhz on the CPU, but it will run 520Mhz on 3dMark05 all day.
Persivore, do you think replacing the caps with better ones will improve the card any?
I am currently ordering parts for a Dothan Sonoma, we'll see how much the card can do when it is not bottlenecked.
Try a different driver, i think it will help.Quote:

On second thought, that was the week I didnt' know about the cold bug and was wondering why it was freezing out. I'm currently using the 83.90 drivers. I'll switch over to the new 84 betas and see what happens.
And on a side note: I found a local shop that carries TONS of electircal components, trimmers, pots, old mobo... muhuahahaha!
Also, if your system is quiet enough, could everyone push thier card up to the max OC and listen to it when it is running "Firefly Forest" and "Canyon Flight" on 3dMark05. Mine puts out this low "chirping" noise, like a loose bearing in a fan.
Kin Hell, that program works fine for me. It gives me the error when I try to stretch it across both monitors though. I got it to do 2036x972 res before it gave me the error. Very nice lighting effects.
Ah-ha...I can confirm similar events Mav. I felt the 81.90's on the disk were better than the Official 81.90's on nVidia's site. I did a bit of experimenting by using the old 81.90's prior to the 7th of Feb, by copying the new .inf file to the pre 7th Feb version Dir. All nVidia did was to patch the 81.90's to include the 7800GS on its Launch date. For doing this, I did see some strange results but don't forget, I had some serious PSU issues which you helped me thro. Thx again!Quote:

Only yesterday, nVidia were still on the 81.90's & just checking their site now shows the New official 84.21's. I expect to see one of 2 things....either other issues such as O/C ability or they fixed some of the isues we are seeing.
Having just D/L'd em & the PDF update notes, there are no references to updates for the 7800GS!
Maybe they don't know of any & we need to let em know, but ffs, Shhhhh about the Vmods eh! :D
I'm still not sure my rig is entirely right on this Tagan. I wish there was some way I could connect one of the Dedicated Tagan SLI connectors to the Molex connector on the card, tho I doubt this would help relieve the PSU through its dual Rail affair you warned me to stay clear of.
I'm just not happy with what this unmodded card is doing in my Rig, and I have NO mods done yet. Perhaps I should abort all untill my pay-check clears me one of those PCP&C 510 Deluxe PSU's & take it from there.
Also Mav, are you absolutely sure the chirping noise you heard isn't actually the Cards Alarm trying to Beef off!?!?
I only say this cos I heard the same Chirping...Not the usual Shrill noise you would associate with a Piezo Buzzer....tbh, it sounded chirpy & like a Pathetic attempt at making the Piezo sound off properly.
I had a pattern of chirps of 3, like a repeated pattern. This would have obviously been the Voltage issues to the card I was experiencing. Those Beep codes have a meaning, just like Mobos Bios Beeps.
I really hope you are'nt having Voltage issues. Dont suppose it matters at such High Resolution anyway.
Just a thought bud! :)
*edit* I'd like to have said about this earlier, but because of my real PSU issues, I haven't known if i've been coming or going with this card.
yes that is normal, when you double click the top window bar it gets the same resolution like your desktop is set on, like mine is 1920x1200 and i also get the message.Quote:

These GS Cards are NOT right.
My cards at 37 Degrees & the FPS is terrible....6 to 10 fps to be precise in that "rthdribl" Benchmark....this is terrible.
Nvidia need to know about this cr^p
38 degrees & its still Fubar.....now the card has warmed up....10 mins or so,
forcing "rthdribl" to run for the 10th time or so jerks the card up on its fps & its temperature.
There is no point attempting to cool these cards with their current Status Quo which kinda eliminates volt modding.
Maybe it isn't a bug & nVidia have done this to lock down on OCers.
ffs! :(
*edit* Double clicking the Top Menu bar on "rthdribl" does not take it to your Desktop resolution & never has. It should "Full Screen" it, but STILL at 640 x 480 & in a Window. (640 x 480 windowed is its default Launch mode)
I talked to EVGA about the problem. They said they'll get their engineers on the cold bug on monday. So maybe we'll get a "supported" non cold-bug bios.
Good thing I have a Prescott, all I have to do to warm up my water is run Prime95 and cover up the intake on my rad, and viola, couple minutes later the water hits 29C . But I'm going Dothan soon, hopefully we'll get this cold bug problem fixed by then. Else I'll never get the water warm enough using the Dothan!
Alexio I have a 256MB flash card, 256USB, and a 2gb USB. A DOS boot dongle would be nice.
Nice 1 Mav. What about the Chirping noise tho', did you put a finger on what it was?Quote:
