Folks, for the "pencil vdrop mod" any pencil nº does the job ?
And for the P5WD2 Premium (non -E) the pins where to place the pencil (between 17 and 18) are the same ones as in the -E mobo , right ?!

I want to do the droop mod. It says to use a 60k resistor pot on the very first page of this thread (great pic also). It sames to use a 60k pot for the mob, but they arnt available here in Australia, but there were 50k and 100k pots. Which should I use instead.
Secondly, when doing the mod is there a particular gauge wire that I should use (current rating). Ie can I just use thin insulated wire.
Any tips would be great before I mob my new mobo.:toast:
any mods that will allow this thing to run conroe?
I guess we have to wait until:Quote:

Yes, for the pencil mod. If you wanna use the pads for a VR the points aren't the same between both boards.Quote:

I just got a hold of one of these boards, done the "Ghetto" pencil mod for Vcore droop. Now to see what hapens when board installed....:)
I prepared the solder area for the Vcore droop mod doing it the stilts way, but I'll see how the pencil mod goes first...:)
Tried the pencil mod on my P5WD2 Premium and it works great !
Clean and simple.
I only put the sharp edge of the pencil in position and the other pencil end I just put some tape to old it in place.
Doing so I did not break the pencil edge, and It didn't become a permanent mod. ;)
I've got with the pencil vdrop mod an increase in vcore of about 0.9v / 1.0v.
I wonder if diferent pencil's will give diferent values in the voltage increase.
As a curiosity the pencil I'm using is from Microsoft ! :D
hahahah an M$ pencil lol
i might just have to try using tape i never thought bout that.
my voltages are still really jumpy but they only jump around now at the most 0.02 from 1.40 to 1.42 at the most but it usually is 1.41 ~ 1.42
im running 4.5ghz @ 1.42v with my 955 Extreme.
performance is crap though.. damn it i want my amd64 back or a conroe..
damn asus all to hell for not making this board Conroe compliant.
and how can we tell what board i have..? everything i have tried says is 1.XX thats all it says.. 1.XX
Look at the motherboard near Ram slots...:rolleyes:Quote:

Thanks for the advice people, great stuff !
Need some info please: reading point for chipset voltage...
Thank you :)
so what happens if i dont use an adjustable POT. what if i just solder a 60k or 100k resistor on it ?
what will it do ?
a 100k will lower the droop some, and 60k will be pretty good.
hey i was just wonduring if anyone has done a vcore mod for the p5wd2-e? is it the same as the p5wd2 because most of the mods look the same (e.g. vmch, vdim, and vdroop)
im planning some ln2 action eventualy and i have phase right now just thought i could always use some extra voltage.:D
Thanks
Alright thanks to Crotale here is the vcore mod! he gets all the credit

Sdoes anyone know if the Asus P5WD2-E premium rev 1.02 will ever be able to run conroe?
sure there will be bios upgrades or something?
