Has anyone found a reason to why some of these are running hot?
I have a 165 0550upmw that won't go below 38* idle. I removed the IHS, attached a temp probe right next to the core, checked mounting/contact with the core before attaching heatsink, and it still won't cool down.
Its only clocked to about 2.1ghz and it even boots and dual primes with 1.2vcore and the temps are still this high. I also checked the vcore with a multimeter and its reading 1.35 idle/1.37 load with 1.30 +104% in the bios.
Will it be safe running this hot or even up to 55*?

I don't know what to say... some chips are just hotter than others. I've had customers FX-57 which ran as hot as X2 under same voltage. Which I NEVER saw before. (I am talking about the "heatsink" temp not what reads on CPU)
Why don't you use it as is and see if it really craps out due to heat or not? Could be just reporting wrong... tried measuring actual HS temperature to verify if it runs hotter or not?

I am using my own temp probe.. its taped down right next to the core. There was just enough room between the heatsink and the core for it.
If thats the case, can it handler higher temps then?
I figure 60 should be my limit. And its odd.. this cpu can run with barely any juice... slightly oced and with not even 1.2vcore.

my chip was a bit warm, but that wasn't all of the problem
I noticed about a 5 C drop in temps with the side panel off, so I think there may be an airflow issue in my case
also, even when it was reporting 55 C the HSF barely felt warm
either way I was still rock stable at 2.6GHz with stock volts and hit 2.8GHz with like 1.475

I'm getting 58c load on a 0550upmw 165, IHS reapplied with AS5. :( XP-90
