This bios has dissapeared off of the taiwan dfi beta website all of a sudden. Now what's wrong?
(still on the us site though)
It's still on their global site.

im running the new bios right now and was finally able to take my opt 170 past 2.6ghz,,, not sure but this bios is working great for me,,, 12/07 bios that is,,,
Kinda funny => how to flash BIOS without switching on the comp??? Taking out BIOS chip and flashing in CompService is quite expensive and silly...
Or maybe I'll put the CPU from my Avatar fot the first boot => it likes 3 Volts :D :D :D
I did it with my BIOS Savior - flashed on other board :)
Can BIOS flash actually increase the overclocking ability?
Also, atacom.com has some Experts in stock. Just picked one up yesterday and the guy said that there were a few more.

WTF is going on here?
Overclock settings act differently with changed bios?
I suppose that when you said you "reload my overclocking settings" you are loading from one of the saved slots. You should NEVER do that, or if you do (I actually do), before hitting F10 check if all the settings are ok. It's usual with different bios to have strange values on some settings (SATA ports, memory settings, etc) when we load setting saved on different bios.
If you actually change the setting manually... well, I don't know what to say.
Just tried setting manually and same thing happens... :confused:Quote:

I'm using the new 12/07 bios now, so far no problem
I think this thread should read, "Life on the bleeding edge". In the PC world, there is a cost to being first on the block. Buggy BIOS revs, voltage issues, and other such items are part of the turf. I think everyone here at XS, in a practical way, is a BETA test user for new PC components. Not only do these new items get used, they get pushed well past intended limits. It is the perfect QA department.
So, the frequency of CPU failures is low, but it affected a few "name brands" in the OC community. These people don't tell 8 or 10 others, like the normal comsumer, but 8 or 10 thousand. Word gets around quite quickly. DFI would be wise to step up to these few individuals and remedy the problem on a case by case basis. No blanket coverage so they get scammed into replacing every fried CPU out there, but look at the select cases where there may be some chance of fault. Seems only fair and practical (preserve reputation) to do so.
People:
I have been following this discussion VERY carefully from the start. Read Kunaak's post #44 again. It contains some important points that should NOT be underestimated. When cool heads prevail and matters are kept in perspective you might see myself and other company reps more willing to engage themselves on this and other forums in reasonable discussion. Perspective was lost here in a very bad way while for a while.

hello to DFI rep.............a very rare showing........especially in theads people are reporting problems with your products
while kunaak is obviously trying to be informative and try not look like a :banana::banana::banana: stirrer, he did in fact say something which is very concerning........I don't have any problems with my Expert board but it doesn't mean it won't die on me either because the cause of the problem is unknown..........and if the board does end up frying something no one is going to pick up the bill.........so yes I have reason to be concerned as there are a lot of $$$$ in that system which can vaporise if i push the wrong button?!..!?
Anyways can you tell us what is actually going on and what is DFI suspecting to be the issue here.......There was some speculation about cold boots and taking out cmos battery. There was also talk that replacing chipset paste may kill it............well i can tell you it hasn't killed my CPU or other components in any of those instances yet so i don't think that is the issue. If you guys actually compare notes to end users you will get to the bottom of the problem quicker so it's wise to share..........and yeah you'll have people dropping off or getting upset but hell get used to that........running a business is not all about collecting money ;) ..........if you want to have a truly good name you have to excel in all areas of business......especially after-sales service which affects repeat business.....anyway enough talking start sharing so we can get to the bottom of this pls
good post, and i dont think you upset anybody :)Quote:

i dont think a statement would have been used by people to bash dfi saying "ha i knew it! the board is flawed!" but would rather calm everybody down.
even if its an issue that only happens on very few boards its important to get the message out to use a new bios. would you want to be the llucky one with one of the few boards that ran into the unlikely circumstances of killing your cpu and later find out the issue was known but was never brought up in a statement? i wouldnt, and im sure nobody else would.
im dissapointed that dfi didnt do this, so lets help dfi and do it for them, thats what this thread is about :)
good job kunaak! :toast:
