"ATI was quite clear they will be introducing a "PE version" of X1800XT to compete with 7800GTX 512"
as far as i care if the PE will be good competition for the 512 gtx they may release it two months later than announced.. remember these two should be the best and last cards of the generation, there's gonna be a good period of time before something better shows up.
hats off to nvidia for good timing.
-
Well how can you compared a cherry picked or tweaked chip set (for 5 months);(noone seem to agree....)with a normal 1800 xt?
I would give them at least a bit of time to cherry pick or tweak it to....
That is common sense! ;)
-
The only thing i find annoying with this compare thing is why cant you compare the PE to GTX512 ?
Why should PE go against some new card ?
If we will see any PE cards at all..
-
Well...it's plain to see that Ati is sucking hind teat this go round. We'll have to see if this improves with the (hopefully ontime) release of the R580 against nVidia's G71 or whatever they cook up to go up against it.
-
will be will be will be going to going to... I am really tired of hearing that about ati's products... I don't care what they cough up in January, their name has been tarnished for me from all of this paper launch crap... I was a big ATI enthusiast also when I had my 9700Pro with the shim removed and tweak monster ram sinks on it.. that was a great card. Oh well... maybe the 580 will be the new 9700Pro. who knows... I hope they start delivering their product on time...

I don't care what either ATI or Nvidia have now or don't have now at market down here in Australia.
The fact of the matter for me, and I'm a keen gamer is that my "older" X800XT with "only" 10% overclock does very well in current games like Quake 4, CoD 2, etc... and will definately see me out to when ATI 580 cards are available down here in Oz.
my 2 cents. :)

Yep. I saw that too. :)
Can anyone translate that for me? I understand they speak of the HT gains, the dual 16x...But they speak of crossfire and the compositing engine, and from my babelfish translation I couldn't make out if it's on-board now, or it will still require the current mastercard setup, although I *think* the later.
Also interesting in that article is how they speak of ATi's 90nm gfx cards going to 80nm (half-node), and that yields are good in the "trial stage". Q2-Q3 (June/July?) availability, so that furthermore makes me believe a 80nm GDDR4 R580 is coming, and right on time to compete with G80. Sweet.

Cool. Any signs of Sapphire yet? Pure Innovation? I love those looks.

I predict sapphire will be really smart and release a single pci-e version of the rd580 lol :p

Perkam
I certainly hope they do.

Is this suppose to be a budget board or something? Another 3 phase? Isn't this going backwards?
-
The one at vrzone is the deluxe version...hence black pcb.

I certainly hope they release both versions for the enthusiast. I could care less about xfire and how high I can score in 3dmark.

somehow i think Perkam meant it wouldnt make any sense for Sapphire to do so, because a singlecard RD580 board would be like an RD480 which is what you have. Ofcourse RD580 is more mature and has better overclocking but for the basic eye it's just the same.

To say that the majority of high end ocers are dreaming of this board every day till its release would be an understatement...the rd480 just isn't up to par with nf4 under extended ln2 sessions. Watch 20k in 05 fall with this board.
Yea I meant that a single card would be mostly useless but perhaps if they can make it significantly cheaper than the cf board, it could sell.
