Mine also hangs if i don't ive enough volts on GPU. U have to have atleast 1.225 if want to go over 600 on the core ;)
I think ur fear problems is due to lack of voltage to the GPU.

Remember u are OC'ing the card...even if just a little. Maybe FEAR is pulling more power than ur other games...who knows :confused:

Seems to me ur card is just fine.

Hi, I hope you don't think I haven't tried higher cause believe me I have! The problem is any higher than 1.150 and my screen turns solid black and the computer halts not allowing me to go any higher without a hard reset of the system. I wish I could go higher. The problem I am having is FEAR has those little black squares even at STOCK speeds which should run fine at 1.100 volts. I shouldn't have to go higher to get it to run so I am not sure it is that. It does sound like I need more volts that but tool just isn't working well for me. I really must wait for another program such as ATI tool, Rivatuner, ATI Tray tools etc to hopefully come up with a better way that my card may like to work with when setting volts. The only way I can set clocks higher is with CCC. I set max to 575/550 and use the tool just to up the volts a tad but that is th best I can do for whatever reason. The other thing is this. You say 1.225 to hit 600mhz range on the core but that is also with high RAM speeds to go along with it. I don't think you need 1.225 for 600/550 do you? Perhaps 600/700.

I do appreciate your response though, all the help and ideas you guys have given me is very much appreciated. I'll keep you posted.

BTW my Lost Coast is doing what MANY others is doing and locking up with looping sound, very annoying.

damn it, tried to hit 10k in 3D Mark 05, but no go, i make more aggressive timing on RAMs, but it was not stable :-) but i really tried ...

The key with OC'ing these cards is the volts on the core.
U don't need 1.225 exactly on core to get 600, but u'll need to atleast raise it to 1.2 on core. From my experience mem voltage doesn't make much diffs to OC.

Thanks Mr. Yellow, what I was wondering is if you have a low ram clock of say 550 do you still need 1.2+ on the core to get 600+? I ask because I was under the impression that you only needed that much vcore if doing 600+ on core AS WELL as high mem clocks like 700+.

Yup, u still need 1.2v on GPU to get 600 even if u ram is running at 550...well

ah, very interesting. I should look into this then I only have 1.125 set for 575 which is only 25mhz shy of 600 yet I am 0.075v away from your suggestion of 1.20+.

interesting is that if i set gpu more then 600+ I/O voltage can be 1.8V and its still stable. 680 is good with 1.25V but if i go to 700 it already need 1.325V. Which means that gpu will dont go much higher.

Hey guys,

I havent been around much on XS latley, been really busy at work but this morning I thought i'd get back to oc my X1800XL and found something strange, if I raise the mem to 750mhz from 700mhz there is no difference in my 05 score. :confused: Oh I also think I have the 1.25v bug where I cant go higher or it will just crash during 03 or 05 no matter what clocks.

Further results and seem to be the max this card can do with the 1.25v GPU bug its got. I should mention that these results are on water as the other were on air. :cool:

I am quite pleased with the card but I wish I could raise the voltage higher, maybe someone will find a way around this bug...maybe a volt mod? :stick:

Did you run also CPU test in 3D Mark 05? or only first three tests?
What about temperature on GPU with watercooling? under load with 700Mhz? how high it was?

No CPU tests only the 3 game tests.

I havent been watching with the 700mhz runs but with 650mhz and the same 1.25 voltage it peaked at 39c, its getting warm water from the CPU block thats why it might seem a little high for water. I will fix that soon with Y splitters when my new rad comes in but I dont think it will change my clocks, its the volt bug that limiting me to push higher. :(

because i can run three tests practically for over a hour, but when i add cpu test, it hangs and bluescreen (ati driver, infinite loop) and end, if i run just cpu test first, its ok. Its weird. but 700Mhz and only 1.25V? thats nice, i need 1.325V to get 700Mhz stable, or it hangs in second test. But funny is, sometimes i can get higher with lower voltage and sometimes not, its bermuda triangle :-s

To my surprise I cant get 700/800 to work now. :(

Earlier today I had no problem running it over and over since then I havent changed anything and I cant get even one pass in 05. I was going to try running 05 with the CPU tests to see if it would crash like spajdr said but now I cant even get the game tests to pass, it just locks up. hhhmmmm I dont know whats going on??? :confused:

I have the same prob , and i know it's not cpu. Raising to 607/607 solves it from lockup. Saph XL , XP , 5.13 , Atitool .11
