When will any OCZ5002048EBPE-K be back in retail? I've got a DFI expert coming on Monday, and no where to buy the ram I want. It looks like it's worth waiting for, but I'll probably have to go with some other 1 GB sticks.

We had parts shipped this week...they should be in e-tailers very soon....everyone found out what IC we were using and there was that normal Supply / Demand problem :(

what does the Skew do for stability/performance? I know my EB sticks 3D max out at around 268 or so with stock Skew settings at 3-3-2-7 2.7v. If the skew could help me maybe squeeze a few more Mhz out of em id be willing to try it out...

That always seems to spoil the fun when people find out what ICs are being used. Other companies merely wait until you do the work for them to find out what certain modules are capable of.

Its a shame really.
Eventually, I hope there is a way to secure the modules so that people cannot find out what they are.

Set the bios to Decrease Skew...then try 96, 128, and 192 as values....see if any of them get you higher.
In A64 tweaker it will say Faster for skew when you are set to Decrease and Slower when you are set to Increase.

OPB has a nice explanation of DQS Skew around here somewhere.

Thanks for reviewing the board BigToe :), I wonder wht has happened to WWM, if nothing seroius, is very rude not to come back and post.

I see you have been concentrating on the ram clocking and have been suprised to see no-one mention abt CPU clocking, this board has got new vCore voltage regulation, right??

I hope you can find the time to see if it clocks any of your CPU's higher, as this is one of the main design changes in this board compared to older revision, I would like to know if it is indeed is better.

BUT it is a pitty that it doesnt do as well as your modded Ultra-D.

So here is the 220 dollar question. Is it worth upgrading from the Ultra-D?

or for that matter is it worth the extra money to get this board over the ultra-d if you dont already have an Ultra-D.

Cant wait for a formal review on the board. Should be intersting to see what the reviewers say about it.

Would I upgrade from my modded ultra D...nope i would not, but not everyone gets boards for free and mods them ;)

Now would i spend money on this instead of an ultra D, hard to say as the ultra D has a much cheaper chipset that can still be modded to SLI but obviously voids any warranty. I know the vdimm is better on this board, i still have to test and measure the VTT but I have a feeling this has been improved also. Regarding features it now has true High Def audio which is a good ugrade so this may just sway it for some people.DFI have also moved the 4X PCI slot to a better position so running 3 vid cards should be easier now once you have cut the back put the 4X slot, some who like flight sims will love it for this.

I have run my VX and found it topped out just where it does on my grouper/ halibut/ultra D and every other board i have here which is 267fsb, so it had nothing special to get my UTT clocking that little bit higher. I will post results later for you.

Regarding cpu overclocking I will play with this later, i have water phase and air but i think i will stick to just air for now as I have a better feel for cpu's and if they are doing better.

The audio upgrade is a good point, once I scrounge a few $$$ together I think a couple sticks of 1Gb EB and this board are in my future!

thanks for the timely response tony.

but I am in the free board and mods group with you so I think i will stick to my Ultra-d which I made into a carbon copy of your board ;) (minus some secret mods which u said wernt worth my time, despite what my Edsyn says)

The improvement of the Vdimm is a big issue I must admit. Without mods the ultra-D's vdimm situation is nothing short of a travesty. But with the mods it works out very nicely and gives an incredibly stable vtt.

considering 90% of us overclockers are too cheap to get a sound card (me included), the high def audio is a a nice feature. I know that it pains me to listen to the karajan audio all the time with my high end headphones... its just not right.

One thing i have been trying to sort out here is how this board clocks so much better than the RDX200 which is almost the same design from the NB up as the eXpert. Now i know eXpert was delayed, was it delayed while they tweaked it?

I have a feeling we will never know, but I will say i can run cas1.5 on the RDX200 but I can NOT on this eXpert, so something has seriously changed as this was one of the key features Oskar was telling me a while back.

In reality I have a feeling the last ounce of speed has been sapped from DDR1 with this board, i did the same by modifying the Ultra D, the only issue is its like 1% or more at best for most people.The upgraded features on the board do make it a VERY good buy, but I feel running the 2 nV chipsets and dual 16X may have made it a more compelling buy, as it has now been proven there are small gains to be had with dual 16X, and i know most of you here like to extract the absloute max you can from your systems.
