Are Opteron clocks better than A64? Like, 2.8ghz Xeon > 2.8ghz P4 > 2.8ghz Celeron.. is 2.0ghz Opteron > 2.0ghz A64?
they are basicly A64.
They are the same as San Diego as they have 1Mb L2 cache.
That's why I just picked up a 146 :D
Are you trying to guilt me into buying one? :D
Trust me, you'll be the guy I contact when I get serious. I love what you make.
Oh, my 4400+ was also from the first batch--did 3GHz on stock air (suicide) and about 2.7GHz dual Prime stable on stock. :D
they were awesome until CBBID :stick:Quote:

And I do think that even review samples are binned to a certain extent. You generally don't see the lower marked cpu's clock higher than the higher marked ones. Yes, they all are from exceptional wafers, but even so they're tested before they're labeled. Case and point - the first two Venice core cpu's which I brought here a couple of months before anybody had even seen them ;) :Quote:

Results:
The 3500 had the coldbug @ -90 on OPP's PCIce cascade
The 3800, of course, didn't and did this on PCIce's own cascade:

The first 4800+'s were nothing to write home about either :p: Sampsa's 4800+ couldn't touch the two 4600's I got around the same time :toast:Quote:

still 1.55v, with water, idle temps around 31-33c :toast:
Impressive, any more characteristics you can tell us? mem controller oddities that have been reported? Voltage scaling? SPI stability clocks? :D
you're on water now correct?Quote:

You know what's weird, i can run 1.50 volts for 2.80 Ghz stable but my highest screen is ~ 3060 Mhz with 1.73 volts. Now, i'm terrible at optimizing for suicide runs, but the way your chip is suiciding so high, i think that it scales very well and has a great memory controller... it's just asking for more!
Ditto. In the theme of things, I ran a suicide run on my Venice and only managed to pull 2.9GHz out of my ass with 1.71v, when with 1.66v I got a SuperPI of 2.86GHz out of it. :stick: What's even stranger is with 1.66v, I set it to 2.9GHz, saved teh CPU-Z file, but it was corrupt...rebooted, got 2.9GHz to save, but any higher and it was still complaining.Quote:

Congrats Ozzi! You're back in it.
since there may be a possible issue with that RAM why don't you stick some generic DDR RAM in there just for initial testing and run it with DDR200 divider to take the RAM out of equation....if that CPU has an issue with that type of BrainPower PCB I wouldn't recommend it for testingQuote:

I just hope Ozzi's results are indicative of all Opteron s939s. We have of course seen the same results from a few other sources, but i recall that at least 2 of these were the exact same stepping, APMW, which i've seen before and i know it tends to clock well. And of course i remember the E6 Great? thread, where Eage got an E6 3000+ to do something like 2.8 Ghz on stock volts, and then most of the E6 Venices purchased sucked hard. So i'm a little skeptical of how well these Opties are going to clock, but so far they are looking great!
This is the exact reason I almost went out on a pretty hard limb to order one of these this week, so I'd get the same batch before even seeing what Ozzi's did, seeing as how all early processors seem to kick ass.Quote:

I'll just pick up Baron's 144 if he sells his, and if he keeps it, then I'll just pick one up myself and pray the computer God's are on my side.
well if more people read my post there you would have been a lot more sceptical about that guy..... :nono:Quote:

Guys... i read all the posts in that thread. Dinos, if you look back, you'll see that i commented on your post and said something that threw doubt on eage's credibility. But anyway we were all convinced that this new thing was the sht so people started ordering E6s from Ewiz like crazy.
yeah fair enough.....he told me that he bought 6 or 7 of these CPUs and that one of them was OK and rest were crap.....Quote:
